COACHING REQUIREMENTS

Volunteer coaches are a crucial ingredient to the success of our Norwood Raiders Football and Cheer Program.  We are very appreciative of the many volunteer coaches who return year after year and devote time to help run our programs.  In order to provide the best possible environment for our children please be aware of the following coaching requirements:

1.     Coaching Application:

Volunteer coaches must complete the below Coaching Application and submit to the Board to maintain on file.

2.     Fingerprints/Background Checks:

All volunteers involved in any recreation programs (coaches, assistant coaches, and similar positions) must have their fingerprints taken and a background check preformed prior to the start of the program you are volunteering for. Only upon clearance from the Norwood Police Chief can you actively participate in any recreation program. Once you have been confirmed as a volunteer, please report to the Norwood Police Department for instructions on how to have your fingerprints taken. This is a time sensitive process, please give yourself ample time to schedule your appointment for the fingerprinting and for the results to be received. You will be notified by email once you are cleared to participate in recreation activities.

The Borough will reimburse the volunteer for the cost of the fingerprinting. Please submit the receipt, and the name, address, and email of the volunteer to the recreation secretary for reimbursement. All information can be emailed to Lvolpitta@norwoodboro.org.

3.      Rutgers Safety Course:

Volunteer coaches must complete the Rutgers Safety program as required by the State of New Jersey. For further information about this class, please go to the Rutgers Safety site http://youthsports.rutgers.edu/program-areas/volunteer-coaches.  Click in the right column under "S.A.F.E.T.Y." for the Clinic Schedule and locations of upcoming coaches' clinics in your area.

4.  Concussion Awareness Certification:

Volunteer coaches must take a 30-minute on-line Concussion Awareness course each year.  Upon completion of the course you will receive a certification.  Once completed, print out the Certificate of completion and submit to Board to maintain on file.  Keep copy for your records.
