Brantford Bobcats Tournament Policy

Policy For Teams Withdrawing After Registration

We understand that unforeseen circumstances can occur over the course of a season. Teams should be aware that the scheduling process starts weeks and sometimes months before an event is scheduled to take place.

Below are the rules that apply to all tournaments regarding a request for a team withdrawal.

A full refund (less the $75 deposit) shall be given if a team withdraws on or before the 45 days prior to the tournament.

A 50% refund shall be given if a team withdraws after the schedule is posted and a replacement team is found.

No refund shall be given if a team withdraws after the schedule is posted and a replacement team is not found.

Rain and Event Cancelation Policy

While we will make every attempt to play each event, weather and other unforeseen circumstances may prevent an event from being completed or in some cases, even starting. In those cases:

If the event is cancelled due to loss of permits, weather, or any other force out of the control of the tournament administrator a $75 fee will be held back from a team's paid registration fee.

No fee will be withheld if the tournament is canceled due to Covid restrictions

Once an event has started, and again is cancelled due to weather team's will be entitled to a 50% refund of the entrance fee. A team must have played at least one event game for this rule to take effect.

No refund is provided if a team starts more than 1/2 of the scheduled pool games.

Team Suspension

We are committed to running events that follow the rules and guidelines of Sport Canada, Softball Ontario, PWSA, and Respect in Sport. If a tournament director is forced to suspend or sanction a team during an event the following refund policy applies:

No refund is provided if a team doesn't compete, due to the team, coach, manager, or parents causing the team to be suspended for the event.

Brantford Bobcats will document the reasons for the decision and forward such to the applicable softball body.

Teams Playing Up a Division

Teams that wish to play up a division to challenge their team are welcome to do so provided they remain in the same Tier. For example, a Tier 1 U15 may play up in U17 Tier 1 but not in U17 Tier 2.

The tournament host may make an exception in cases where a division is full and teams are needed at the higher division.

Tie Breaker for Bracket Ranking

1) Teams will be ranked based on win/loss/tie record during Pool Play. 2 points for a win 1 point for a tie 0 points for a loss

2) In the event due to weather an uneven number of pool games are played then winning percentage will be used

3) If two or more teams are tied then the tie will be broken using the following steps.

  • Head to head results. If teams haven't played each other then move to next step. If more than two teams are tied this rule only applies if one of the tied teams has played each of the others. If one team has played all of the tied teams and won all of those games they will get top position. In all other cases with three or more tied teams this rule will be ignored.
    • For greater clarity here are some examples:
      • Team A,B, and C are tied after round robin (Pool Play). Team A has played Team B and Team C and won both games. Team A gets top ranking. Team B and Team C haven't played one another  they move to next tie breaker. If Team B and Team C have played one another the result of that game determines who gets second spot from head to head tie breaker
  • Fewest runs allowed- no game maximum
  • Run differential to a max of +/- 10 runs per game
  • Runs scored- no game maximum
  • Coin toss
