Radnor No Hits Chichester 7-0, Advances to District Finals and States

May 28, 2014

Radnor played a marvelous all around game and exacted revenge on Chichester yesterday in the District Semi Finals, winning 7-0.  With the win, the Raiders advanced to their first District Final and also qualified for the PIAA AAA States which begin on Monday, June 2.  The District Finals are scheduled for Thursday, pending the completion of the other semifinal game today (which was suspended with Springfield leading 7-3 over Upper Merion).  Izzy Schaefer pitched a no hitter against Chichester, striking out 7 along the way.  Both Chichester base runners got on by walks, and were erased by catcher Holly Pachella on steal attempts.  Bari Margolis jump started the offense with two doubles, and Caitlin Connor also had a big RBI double to the fence.  Last year Chichester eliminated Radnor in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

RADNOR WINS DISTRICT 1 TITLE!!! BEATS SPRINGFIELD 2-0

May 31, 2014

The Radnor Raiders capped an awesome three game run through the PIAA District 1 AAA playoffs with a 2-0 shutout of arch rival and #1 seed Springfield. Radnor opened with a 2-0 win over Pottsgrove, ran past Chichester 7-0 in the semi finals, before beating Springfield for the 3rd time this season.  In the Championship, Izzy Schaefer allowed only 2 hits while striking out 9; and Katie Jordan (2 for 3) flew around the bases for a 4th inning inside the park home run to spark the Raiders.  Amanda Davis preserved the 1-0 lead with a tremendous catch of a sinking line drive in center field, before Radnor added an insurance run in the 7th when Izzy had a line drive sac fly to drive in Bari Margolis (2 hits on the day).  The District 1 title is the first ever for Radnor High School in softball.  The Raiders open the state playoffs on Monday, June 2, at 2 pm vs. Franklin Towne Charter from District 12.  The game will be played at West Chester East High School.

Bethlehem Catholic Ends Radnor Run 1-0

June 6, 2014

Bethlehem Catholic scored an unearned run in the first inning, and their pitcher made it hold up for a 1-0 victory to end Radnor's run in the state quarterfinals.  Bethlehem Catholic's 3 hitter had a double in the first inning to score the unearned run, and only one more hit the rest of the way; but Radnor was held to NO hits in the game.  Radnor did get runners on base in each of the last three innings, but it's closest rally ended when the Becahi right fielder made a remarkable running, juggling catch on a line drive by Izzy Schaefer that certainly would have scored Blake Massaro from 2B with 2 outs in the 6th inning.  Izzy's pitching and Radnor's defense continued to be strong, as Radnor gave up only the one unearned run and 5 hits total across five playoff games in Districts and States.  The Raiders season ended with Radnor's first ever District 1 AAA softball title and first ever victory in the PIAA AAA state playoffs.  Here's  a link to an aritcle on the game:
