The safety and well-being of our players is the most important responsibility of the Chippewa Valley Raptors, and we will do everything in our power to protect them.  Unfortunately, in sports athletes do get hurt, no matter how much we protect them.

A concussion is an injury that changes how the cells in the brain normally work.  A concussion is caused by a blow to the head or body that causes the brain to move rapidly inside the skull.  Even a 'ding', 'getting your bell run', or what seems to be a mild bump or blow to the head can be serious.  Concussions can also result from a fall or from players colliding with each other or with obstacles, such as a goalpost.

The potential for concussions is greatest in athletic environments where collisions are common.  Concussions can occur, however, in ANY organized or unorganized sport or recreational activity.  Knowing how to spot a Concussion early and seeking medical help when needed can reduce the life long impacts a concussion can cause.

All athletes playing for the Chippewa Valley Raptors must read the Player Concussion Fact Sheet along with the  Facts about Concussion and Brain Injury Sheet, and have a Parent/Guardian and Player Concussion Agreement Form on file prior to participating in any team practice, game, tournament, or team building activity.  This is to ensure Players know what a concussion is, how to recognize signs and symptoms of a concussion, steps to take if you think you have a concussion, and how concussions can be prevented.

Parents/Guardians must also read the Parent/Guardian Concussion Fact Sheet along with the  Facts about Concussion and Brain Injury Sheet.  This is to ensure Parents/Guardians know what a concussion is, how to recognize signs and symptoms of a concussion, along with proper steps to take if you suspect your child has a concussion.

Please download and print the Parent/Guardian and Player Concussion Agreement Form and give it to your coach prior to or at the first practice, game, tournament or team building activity your child attends.  Links to the Player Fact Sheet, Parent/Guardian Fact Sheet, and Facts about Concussion and Brain Injury Sheet are also below.
