RJF&C Junior Bulldogs South Champions
The Rutherford Bulldog Mighty Mites (6-7 year olds) took on Lyndhurst and put together a gutsy, team-first effort that featured big plays and strong leadership. On offense, Kaiser Day carried the load—moving the chains, absorbing contact, and setting the tone on each drive. Jordan Antiorio added a crowd-pleasing burst with a strong run, while Vinny Oszmanski powered through tackles and Vincent “Vinny” Fuccilli and Bradley Rocha paved lanes from fullback with key lead blocks. Up front, Bryson Wilson delivered steady snaps at center with Sean Ryan, Matias Leon, and Paul Rood grinding in the trenches, and Tommy Rose added reliable blocks from tight end. The defense answered with hustle and discipline. Cameron Hennie was active at nose guard , filling lanes and finding the ball. Defensive ends Sean Ryan and James Schmeding set firm edges all afternoon, while tackles Bryson Wilson and Vincent Fuccilli clogged the interior. At corner, Kaiser Day and Kiaan Kachhadiya limited outside runs, with linebackers Finn Innis, Jordan Antiorio, and Vinny Oszmanski closing down the middle. Over the top, Stephen Rusignuolo and Tommy Rose provided sure tackling. In his return, John Rocco Della Fave delivered a highlight—an interception on the second-to-last play of the game. The Rutherford Bulldogs Peewees (8–9 year olds) went head-to-head with the Lyndhurst Golden Bears in a hard-fought defensive battle, ultimately falling 6–0 in the final minute and a half of play. From start to finish, it was a game of field position and physical football. The Bulldogs’ backfield — Tommy LaGreca, David Zurla, Gregory Fletcher, Leo Puglisi, Dominic Williams, and Emmet Bohan — ran hard all afternoon, fighting for every yard against a tough Lyndhurst defense. Defensively, the Bulldogs put on a show. Leo Puglisi, Jeremiah Roman, and Dean DellaFave led the charge, each making key plays to keep Rutherford in the game. DellaFave forced a fumble, Puglisi came up with a clutch interception, and Roman delivered multiple tackles for loss on critical third downs. The defensive line of Vincent Centrella, Gianluca Caroprese, Luke Ruffins, and Gregory Fletcher held strong in the trenches, while the secondary — Dominic Williams, Leo Puglisi, David Zurla, and Jameson Bohn — kept the Golden Bears contained for most of the game. Late in the fourth quarter, the Bears broke through on a well-executed reverse to score the lone touchdown of the day. Despite a strong final push, the Bulldogs ran out of time and came up just short. It was a tough loss for Rutherford, but the team showed grit, toughness, and heart from whistle to whistle. The Bulldogs look to bounce back next week as they continue to build on their strong defensive performance. The 5-0 Rutherford Jr. Bulldogs Junior Division team defeated the Golden Bears of Lyndhurst at home in a MFL Southern Division rivalry by the score of 32-6. The Bulldogs emphasized a ground attack to power past Lyndhurst. They had a total of 5 rushing touchdowns on all five of their possessions of the day. The scoring began when elusive running back Charlie Lagreca took the handoff and scampered 22 yards for the Touchdown. His first of 3 TD's. Lyndhurst came right back and scored their only touchdown on their first possession of the game. On the very next drive, Rutherford only needed 3 plays before Lagreca struck again! This time he took a reverse and out ran the defense around the left side. This time for a 42 yard score and they never looked back. Next, it was Kevin Calabrese's turn. The bruising fullback powered15 yards up the middle and dove into the end zone on another 3 play drive. Rutherford took a 20-6 lead into the half. The opening score of the second half came from the legs of workhorse Luke Barnes. After multiple big runs throughout the game, Barnes scored on a 9 yard burst. The Bulldogs "bend but don't break" defensive unit featuring Defensive Linemen: Jackson Condon, Harrison Byrne, Daniel D'Agati, Parker Garofalo, Defensive Ends: Brendan Caughey and Luca Ventura, Cornerbacks: Mark Gordon, Yar Fedorko, Archer Modica, and Safety Dessmond Fabiano limited the Golden Bears to 6 points. Rutherford's dominance continued all night. They closed out the game when safety Des Fabiano, intercepted the Lyndhurst quarterback, broke a tackle and returned the ball 20 yards to the Golden Bears 25 yard line. Five plays later Lagreca scored his 3rd and the teams final touchdown to make the final score 32-6. The Rutherford Senior Bulldogs (12-13 year olds) lost a hard fought game by a score of 20-14. The Bulldogs played tough all game, but Lyndhurst was able to take home the win. The game started off in Lyndhurst's favor, where they scored on their opening drive. Hard fought defense from Tyler Griffin allowed Rutherford to stop the extra point, making the score 6-0. Rutherford was able to answer back, with a long run from Mason Colon, following the blocks of Austin Villa and Gavin Nimmo, making the score 6-6. Lyndhurst would have a response of their own, where they took a 13-6 lead into halftime. Rutherford received the second half kickoff and turned it over on downs. Their tough defense came up with a turnover and the offense was able to capitalize off it. Tyler Griffin and Ryan Wilton drove the Bulldogs down the field, following the blocking of Jake Barnes, Joey Urgola, and Owen Byrne. Lucas Schmidt was able to drill the PAT, giving the bulldogs a 14-13 lead late in the 4th quarter. Lyndhurst was able to break a long run with little time left, allowing them to come away with a 20-14 victory. The RJF&C program will be away versus Harrison next Saturday. Next week Rutherford will take their program on the road to Harrison to face the Blue Tide in another MLF Southern Division matchup.
