❓Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

(Last Updated: 1/18/26)

What is required to register and participate?

To participate in Hoboken Little League (HLL), all of the following are required:

  1. Complete the online registration through Blue Sombrero / HLL Charter
  2. Complete the online enrollment through TeamSnap for league-wide and team management; "NEW SIGN-UP" REQUIRED EVERY SEASON
  3. If not already placed on a team and want to join either of the following, you must complete one of the online tryout sign-up forms:
    • Minor League Tryout Form (ages 8–12)
    • Major League Tryout Form (ages 9–12)

What is Blue Sombrero and why is it required?

HLL operates independently from the City of Hoboken Recreation Department, though we partner with them for field access and other support

HLL is officially chartered with Little League International (LLI) and must follow their rules and administrative requirements

  • LLI requires all players to be registered through Blue Sombrero
  • Blue Sombrero is LLI’s official registration platform
  • Every participant must complete Blue Sombrero registration to play—no exceptions. TeamSnap alone is not sufficient.

What is the League ID # on the School Enrollment Form?

2300706

What is the League Name on the School Enrollment Form?

Hoboken Little League

Do I register for Coach Pitch or Minor Juniors on the School Enrollment Form (Blue Sombrero)?

HLL program names do not always align with Little League International (LLI) form labels.

  • If registering for Coach Pitch, Minor Juniors, or Minor League, please select “MINORS” on the School Enrollment Form.

TeamSnap – Volunteer Coach Question on Form?

When prompted for player information (grade, school, etc.), what should I enter?

Please select “OTHER” or “N/A COACH.”

  • Be sure to enter your correct and current name, phone number, and email address
  • This information will appear exactly as entered in the TeamSnap app.

I already have a TeamSnap account. Do I need to enroll again?

YES - HLL uses one league-wide TeamSnap enrollment system that resets EVERY season.
All players and coaches must re-enroll each season to ensure accurate and updated information.

This is a quick but critical step that helps the league operate efficiently—thank you!

Note: Mandatory waivers must also be reviewed and completed in TeamSnap.

Do I need to register for more than one division?

No - please register for ONE division only, based on your child’s correct baseball age.

If your child ultimately plays in a different division after tryouts or team formation, the league will make the necessary adjustments.

Which division should I select for my 8-year-old?

Minor League vs. Minor Juniors

Parents should choose the division that best fits their child.

All 8-year-old (baseball age) players may choose one of the following:

  1. Minor League – Tryout required
  2. Minor Juniors – No tryout required

Minor Juniors

  • Less intense and highly instructional
  • Transitional program
  • Players typically learning to pitch
  • Slower-paced, less competitive games
  • Non-hard balls used

Minor League

  • More advanced and competitive
  • Player pitch and live hitting
  • Hard baseballs used
  • Season culminates in playoffs and championship games

What if my child attends a tryout but is not drafted?

  • Minor League tryout → not placed: Player is automatically placed in Minor Juniors
  • Major League tryout → not placed: Player is automatically placed in Minor League
  • Bottom Line:
Every child who resides in Hoboken or attends school in Hoboken will play baseball as long as registration is completed before the deadline.
  • Late registrations may be waitlisted based on roster availability.

When will schedules be available?

Schedules are NOT available at the time of registration and are typically finalized after the registration deadline.

Final schedules depend on:

  • Enrollment numbers
  • Field availability
  • Number of teams per division
  • Updates are shared after team formation and draft processes are complete.

Typical scheduling (subject to change):

  • Coach Pitch & Minor Juniors: Weekends (Saturday/Sunday), daytime
  • Minor League: Weeknights and Saturday mornings
  • Major League: Primarily weeknights, occasional weekends

All scheduling is TBD and may vary year to year.

When does the season take place?

The spring season typically runs:

  • Mid-April through mid- to late-June (TBD)

Additional notes:

  • We generally avoid games during spring break
  • Games typically do not start before spring break unless calendar constraints require it
  • Final plans may shift due to holidays (e.g., Easter)

More details are shared as the registration/team formation process unfolds; the website is continuously updated

What if I don’t register right away? Is there a cap?

Please do not panic...

  • There is no maximum capacity for Hoboken residents or Hoboken-school students

  • As long as you register before the deadline, your child will play

What if I miss the registration deadline?

Players who register after the deadline or who do not reside in Hoboken / attend school locally may be waitlisted and accommodated only if space is available.

Bottom Line: Register on time!

What if I’m missing a step or document after the deadline?

  • All registrations are throughly reviewed after the deadline
  • If anything is missing, we will contact you directly

What does it mean to “rise” to the next division?

  • Players typically remain with the same team as they age within a division
  • When a player “rises” to the next division, they usually join a new team
  • At younger levels, teams and coaching staffs are more fluid as players move up at different times

What is the order of HLL divisions?

➡️ Coach Pitch (7s)
➡️ Minor Juniors (8–9s)
➡️ Minor League (8–12s)
➡️ Major League (9–12s)
➡️ Junior/Senior (13–16s)

Which divisions require tryouts?

  • Coach Pitch & Minor Juniors: No tryout required
  • Minor & Major League: Tryout required
  • Junior/Senior: Tryout may required for team formation (TBD)
