History was made in Clifton Park on Saturday, July 6, 2019 as the Capital District Over 50 Softball League Olde Stars took on the Capital District Senior Softball, Inc. Olde Stars from the Clifton Park area.  This 2 game set was first ever contests between the two independent leagues.

 

In game 1, the Clifton Park Seniors were victorious thanks to a walkoff double in the bottom of the 7th, sending them to an  8-7 win.  In the 2nd game, the tables were turned as the CDOFSL gang came out on top, leading all the way to an  8-2 victory.  Rusty Gallagher pitched both games for the CDOFSL'ers, taking a one hit shutout into the sixth inning before giving up their only 2 runs in the 2nd game.

 

The fielding by CDOFSl was nothing short of spectacular in both games, as they played flawless ball.  But in the 2nd game, they were simply outstanding.  Play of the Day goes to Gary Onderdonk for his diving, tumbling and flip up catch in short left center.  Mike Simmons made some flashing catches at 2B (when he wasn't sparing Mike C. and Joe Salo at catching Rusty).  Rick Knipper made 2 back to back plays at short, one a stretch up to catch a line drive, followed right after by a dive to his left on a grounder to flip and get the runner at 2nd.  Rick Wall and Kevin Washock make great plays at 1B.  Mike Holub and Bill Hickey were tremendous at 3B.  Lots of other great plays.  Manager Mike Connelly said before the game that he didn't know what to do with such an excess of great talent.
