10/6/18 – BOONVILLE PIRATES XC SHOWDOWN RESULTS

There was a ton of rain; but not much during the races as things cleared up and the sun came out. The ground did end up rather wet and muddy in spots which sometimes slows down athletes, but there were many season best times run.

Thanks a lot to the Pirates for hosting their first meet. They did a nice job of marking up the course appropriately, and also making some changes on the fly for the safety of the young athletes. Also, a big thanks to the brave adults that took on the Adult 2K during the downpour to start the day.

It looked like many of the athletes started “racing” more in Boonville instead of just running. There were plenty of friendly “rivalries” and competitions going on during the races which were fun to see. Some stepped into the top 6 for the first time, and that is great to see the work they are doing and the coaches are helping push them through paying off.

With their development and improvement, we certainly see opportunities for very good age group teams for the CMAC All-Stars regional and national team. We of course want to see as many go that can if the young athlete is enjoying the sport. To do everything, it is simply an overnight in which one would leave that Friday morning, do the team activities, sleep that evening, race the next day, then back home Saturday night. So, please start looking for ways to get our CMAC kids there! Even if you cannot make it to the Friday activities, plan to just show up Saturday morning to race. A couple of our groups have top 3 nationally potential for sure.

Finally, we want to correct a couple of things mentioned (or not mentioned) at the meet in Boonville. For starters, the Westphalia meet isn’t this approaching weekend, it is the following weekend on that Sunday. Look out for information about that. Secondly, we didn’t announce that the third CMAC All-Squad Practice is set for this approaching Saturday in Columbia. It will be at Nifong Park, you can find the event information on the CMAC Facebook page. The time will be 10am, and we hope to see as many of you as possible. If you are from far out, maybe just plan to do something in Columbia that day to make the most of it instead of just a practice for the kid. We certainly want them to bond as regionals and nationals are approaching and they’ll be teammates.
