Bulldogs Battle NM Green Knights

The Rutherford Pee Wee Bulldogs (8-9 year olds) finished the MFL regular season 8-0, winning their last contest versus New Milford, 19-0. The Bulldog offense scored in the first half with a Dmitri Paskas blast off left tackle from 20 yards out. Paskas took a Myles Balchan handoff and followed blocking backs Matt Bonagura and Emmett Carney thru a maze off Green Knight defenders. Rutherford’s second half scores were Bonagura blasts off right tackle. The lil Dogs offensive line took a quarter to get control of the line of scrimmage: E Quinn Weber, T Andrew Ochojski, G Jayden Arlauskas, C Vin Urgola, G Chase Martini, T Evan Diaz and E Will Holman. The Bulldog defense posted their eighth shutout of the season and enter the MFL South Playoffs the #1 seed. The Rutherford Junior Bulldogs (11-12 year olds) suffered their first loss of the season to the New Milford Knights 12-0. Bulldogs Full Back Devin Burgos proved to be the strong back for the night with multiple powerful runs up field. Chris Kasperan stepped up in the Quarterback position completing passes to Chris Gioa ; however it would not be enough for the Bulldogs to put a score on the board. Although the Bulldogs defense, led by Burgos, Laudan Henry, and Marchello Fernandez, held strong, they couldn’t keep the Knights from scoring. The Bulldogs look forward to moving on to the playoffs. The Rutherford Bulldog Seniors (12-13 year olds) finished the regular season 7-1 with a 32-0 victory over the New Milford Knights. The Bulldogs started on the defensive side of the ball and set the tone early forcing the Knights to punt the ball away after gaining zero yards offensively. The defensive line of Chris Lora, Alejandro Garcia, Steve Pisciotta and Yayha Elfeshaw confused the offensive line blocking with constant pressure. After a deep punt, the Bulldogs came out on offense starting from their own 30 yard line. Anthony Bonagura shot off tackle for a 60 yard run before being chased down at the ten yard line. On the very next play Bonagura punched in the first score of the game. Offensive linemen Lora, Sal Fernandez, Pisciotta, Ernie Bonagura, Garcia, Angel Bido and Luke Cerulli made huge holes for him to run through. The defense forced another three and out as Linebackers Fernandez, Cole Goumas, Cerulli and Ryan Ward swarmed to the ball. Defensive backs Van Weber, Zach Herninko and Anthony Bonagura blanketed any receiver attempting a route. On the offensive side it was Cole Goumas' turn as he took it 70 yards on the first play of the series for the next Bulldog score. Zach Herninko came in to the backfield on the following offensive series and scored another Bulldog Touchdown from 30 yards out behind the blocking of Angel Bido and Owen Fernandez. Arthur Costan helped open huge holes as the fullback and had a forced fumble and recovery on the defensive side of the ball. Michael Oliveros plugged the middle of the defense up and assisted on two sacks. Jack Daly ran the offense in the second half and also contributed on the defensive side with numerous tackles. Danny Carr shut down his edge as a defensive end and forced everything to the other side. The Bulldogs will face the Carlstadt/East Rutherford Wildcats next week in the first round of the MFL playoffs. The 2018 Super raffle winning families are Mimi Khan, Steve Pisciotta, Nathan Wagner and Emma Risser.
