SUNRISE ATHLETICS CLUB

Founders/ Head Coaches: Lance and MJ Tominaga

Founded: December 2010

Purpose: Promote participation in running as the foundation for all sports, along with developing proper skills and building positive character in the process.

Assistant Coaches: Tony Denault, Lori Hunter, Ivan and Vandey Okinaka, Kaylee Rapoza (UHH Harrier)

Junior Coaches: Carmen Garson-Shumway (HHS BIIF/State Champion), Stephen Hunter (HHS State Qualifier/ BIIF Best), Vanessa Ignacio (WHS Best), Ian McQuate (WHS State Medalist/ BIIF Champion)

Mission:

Sunrise Athletics works toward providing Hawaii youth athletes the opportunity to participate in a positive and fun atmosphere that supports overall athletic development while nurturing high self-esteem, self-discipline, goal setting, leadership and pride for one’s self and others.  Through participation in Sunrise Athletics programs, individuals will gain a sense of personal athletic accomplishment and the knowledge of the importance in building sound character through leadership, sportsmanship, team work, and respect!   

 

Club Objectives:

·        * Develop athletes of sound mind and body.

·      * Provide athletes with quality skills, training, and strategies to support athletic progress.

·      * Maintain a fun and positive environment where athletes, coaches, and parents have a sense of equity and display mutual RESPECT for one another.

·      * Encourage athletes to aim high, work hard, and do their best during physical and academic learning, training, and competition.

·      * Promote the highest level of ethical conduct, sportsmanship, and fairness during competition and at practices.

·      * Instill the notion that it is the “process in achieving” one’s personal goal that is more important than the outcome.

·      * Motivate athletes to work towards realizing greater than their known potential.

·      * Athletes gain a sense of UNDERSTANDING and APPRECIATION for the overall skills and concepts learned from running/ track and field and any sport, which leads to greater success in personal athletic goals and their lives!

 

Sports Offered by the Club:

·         Fall – P&R Cross-Country for 3rd – 8th grade

·         Winter – P&R Track and Field for 1st – 8th grade

·         Spring & Summer – Basketball for elementary – intermediate

·         Summer – Track & Field Overall Athlete Training – All Ages

·         Special Select Events: Foot Locker West Regionals CC Championships in California; Junior Olympics State Youth Cross-Country Championships on Oahu, Junior Olympics State Youth Track & Field Championships

Previous Club Events Participated In:

·    - Foot Locker West Regional CC Championships in California / Dec. 2011 – 2013

o   Select group only, and next trip will be Dec. 2015 where we are looking at taking (3) current 7th graders that will be freshmen by then, along with select high school athletes.

·   - Hershey’s Track & Field Big Island Championships 2013

·   - Hawaii Association USA T&F Junior Olympics Championships in Oahu / July 2011-present

·   - P&R Track and Field Meets on the Big Island 2011-present

·   - Hershey’s Track and Field Hawaii State Championship, Oahu in June (2015 or 2016) – Elem. & Inter.

·   - AAU USA T&F Club Championships, Florida in July (2016 or 2017)– All Age Groups
