BrewCrew Start June With 6-2 Record to Get to 7-3 Susquehanna League
BrewCrew Gets Shutdown Against Cecil
The Baltimore BrewCrew got off to a hot start when Ben Henry singled home two runs in the top of the first. And with Stephen Cooke on the mound, that usually means game over. But the game went the other way. It was pretty much game over for the BrewCrew offense as they were only able to get one more runner to second base.
Cecil went on to get the best of Cooke and the BrewCrew defense. Two errors brought in three of the seven runs. When the dust settled, the BrewCrew found themselves with a 7-2 defeat. Cooke threw a complete game allowing 4 earned runs and 11 strikeouts. Harry Slade and Matt Gabrielski each reached base twice with one hit, and scored a run to lead the BrewCrew offense.
Sean Welling and BrewCrew Answer With Game Two Win
After the game one loss to the Cecil Armor, the BrewCrew needed a victory to pull even in the standings. Sean Welling started the game and opened with a zero in the first frame. The BrewCrew then got on top when Ethan Koster had an RBI groundout. In the second, the BrewCrew started to open it up. It all started with a classic Devon Jerrard strikeout (yet to put the ball in play this season at this point). Zach Nadolny and S. Welling had back-to-back RBI singles as part of the three run fourth.
Cecil was able to push one across in the third, but the BrewCrew answered. Harry Slade's sacrifice fly and a lot of walks highlighted the three run inning. Another three in the fourth from Devon Jerrard's first hit of the season and Z. Nadolny and S. Welling's back to back RBI hits again. Koster went for the slaughter rule with a solo bomb in the fifth.
Waugh Earns First Win in First Start with BrewCrew
Ryan Waugh took the mound to face the Harford Hurricanes in his first career start on the mound. The second year veteran was on top of his game. Only allowing one run over four innings with five strikeouts. The offense put the BrewCrew ahead early in the bottom of the third. Brodie Burch and Johnny Bandzwolek each had RBI walks and Mateo Gonzalez had a two run single.
Taylor Nelson took the mound in the fifth for the BrewCrew with a 4-1 lead. Nelson threw two successful innings on the way to a save. Tyler Mister, Justin Anderson, and Sean Welling lead the offense with two hits apiece. Gonzalez lead the team with three RBIs.
Cooke Outduels Ross in Battle of Aces, 'Crew Win 3-2
The Baltimore BrewCrew have found themselves two games behind the Maryland Dodgers to start the day in the race for first in the Susquehanna League. Stephen Cooke took the mound to face off with Greg Ross of the Maryland Dodgers. Cooke got off to a rocky start after the leadoff hitter reached on an error and scored on a RBI groundout.
The score held at 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth. Justin Anderson scored on an RBI groundout by Johnny Bandzwolek to tie the game. The Dodgers answered quickly with a sacrifice fly to retake the lead in the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, Brodie Burch singled to score Zach Nadolny and tie the game. The game remained tied until the eighth. Dre Jones reached on a walk and stole second. On an attempted steal of third, an overthrow from the catcher allowed Jones to score and win the game.
Justin Anderson, Dre Jones, and Mateo Gonzalez all had doubles while Zach Nadolny, Brodie Burch, Taylor Nelson and Gonzalez had singles.
The win pulls the BrewCrew within one game of the Dodgers. Next up is the second game of the doubleheader.
Dodgers Walk Off on BrewCrew to Retain First Place
EJ Nadolny of the BrewCrew squared off with Martinez of the Dodgers in a match for first place. The Dodgers jumped out to the early lead with four hits in the first inning to take the 2-0 lead. It stayed that way till the third when Dre Jones connected with a homerun to left field to make it 2-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, the umpiring and the BrewCrew defense betrayed Nadolny to allow two more runs to score. The first betrayal was on the umpire behind the plate that missed strike three call that crossed the center of the plate. Two additional errors followed to allow the third and fourth runs to score. The BrewCrew answered rather quickly, with two in the fifth on walks and hit batsmen.
Taylor Nelson relieved Nadolny in the fifth. The Dodgers scored two in the fifth on a homerun to extend the lead to 6-3. The never-die BrewCrew continued to fight with more walks and hit batsmen. Dre Jones singled to left to tie the game at 6-6. But the Dodgers finally were able to put an end to it with a wakoff single by Martinez.
The win puts the Dodgers two games ahead of the BrewCrew this season.
BrewCrew Complete 3-Run Comeback as Bullpen Steadies Ship
Ryan Waugh made his second start against the Hurricanes in a weeks time. His first effort was four successful innings, resulting in his first career win. The second didn't go as smoothly as the Hurricanes jumped out with three straight hits and two runs in the first. The BrewCrew jumped ahead in the fourth. Mateo Gonzalezz hit his first career homerun to tie it. And Kris Lotharp had an RBI single to take the lead. But it wasn't to stay four unearned runs crossed following an error. Dan McCann relieved Waugh.
The BrewCrew took the lead for good in the sixth. Walks plagued the Hurricanes as the 'Crew only had three hits in the inning but scored nine runs. Walks again in the seventh lead to the victory for the BrewCrew. McCann picked up his first win of the year. Andy Welling, Sean Welling, and Mateo Gonzalez had two hits apiece. Sean Welling's One Hitter and Homeruns Carry BrewCrew
Sean Welling was on top of his game in the nightcap of the doubleheader. After the 'Crew slaughtered Cecil in the first game of the doubleheader, it was important that the BrewCrew get on top early to avoid a trap game. Zach Nadolny and Dre Jones going back-to-back homeruns in the first and the BrewCrew walked away with a 5-0 lead. Sean Welling was absolutely on his game as he allowed one hit over the complete game, with no walks and no runs.
Jones homered again in the second for two more RBIs. After Jones was intentionally walked in the fifth to open the inning, Matt Gabrielski and Andy Welling hit back-to-back homeruns to seal the win.

BrewCrew Lose 1st Game of Bridgeton Invitational, Finish 2nd
The BrewCrew came out of the winner's bracket to face Garton's Seminoles, the team that the BrewCrew defeated in their last game. But due to extremely odd and unfair rules brought forth by the Bridgeton Invitational, the team with a loss coming out of the loser's bracket needs to defeat the team coming out of the winner's bracket once. And that is just what happened.
Stephen Cooke was not on top of his game, walking the games first two batters. Both scored to give Garton's the 2-0 lead. That is all that Garton's would need as the BrewCrew could only muster two baserunners, one a double by Kevin Kopas and the second was a HBP by Holden Marshall. These resulted in no runs.
This is the fourth second place finish in the BrewCrew's last four tournaments. Next up for the BrewCrew is a game against the Harford Hurricanes in the Susquehanna League.
