Manheim Township Travel Basketball Association
The purpose of the Manheim Township Travel Basketball program is to support the development of skilled and enthusiastic players through the provision of competitive practice and game environments. The philosophy is to emphasize fundamental skills, team play, commitment, positive attitude/sportsmanship, and personal development of all individuals. The program does have a competitive objective, so playing time is earned based on commitment, attitude, hustle, and skill development. It is not an equal playing time league. Every effort is made to support individual success while providing challenges, which expand player skills and experience.
We participate in the Lancaster-Lebanon Travel Basketball League. The L-L Travel Basketball League began over 25 years ago with just six teams but has greatly expanded over time. The purpose of the league is to give 4th, 5th and 6th graders an opportunity to play highly competitive basketball against top players in Lancaster, Lebanon, Dauphin and Cumberland Counties. The L-L League website is www.lltravelhoops.com if you'd like more information or want to check standings during the season.
Tryouts
Please see the REGISTER NOW button or tab to read information on try-outs and access the registration form.
v THIS PROGRAM IS ONLY FOR GIRLS AND BOYS LIVING IN THE MANHEIM TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT. IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN THE MANHEIM TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER FOR TRYOUTS.
Team Formation
- After all tryouts are complete an email will be sent out indicating if your child has made a team or not. Either way there will be an email communication sent to all who participated in the tryout process.
- Once teams are determined, we will seek 2 coaches per team
- 4th grade teams are new to MTTBA and the L-L league; we expect a modified format compared to traditional 5th/6th grade teams
- We will make a decision on teams based on try-outs, participation and L-L league setup
- While we hope to provide the same amount of practices and games, gym accessibility may limit this
- Anticipate more games, possibly all games, on weekends
Season Information
- Following our try-outs, there will be an informational meeting prior to the beginning of practices.
- During this meeting we will cover more details about the upcoming season, introduce coaches, review the Code of Conduct, and discuss other items as well.
- Practices will begin in the last week of October '25
- The MTTBA player fee is $250.00. This includes game uniforms, practice jerseys, warmup shooting shirts, 3+ months of practices, summer league opportunities, 12-14 regular season games, and a potential playoff bracket in February. Players will keep their uniform, game warm-up and practice jersey. You will pay your coach by check at your first practice. Checks should be made payable to "MTTBA".
Practice/Game Schedule
- Each team will have two to three 90-minute practices each week in the evenings. Practice locations will be in MTSD gymnasiums.
- Teams may participate in a Thanksgiving or Christmas tournament at the availability of the coaches.
- Schedule will be distributed by Lancaster Lebanon Travel in early November '25
- Games will start in early December '25 and end in early February '26. They could be on weeknights or weekends. Typically most of the games are on weeknights with only 2-4 weekend games. Playoff games will occur during mid-February for the teams that qualify.
- We are expecting our 5+ home games to be at the Landis Run Intermediate School Gymnasium. The 5+ away games will be at other school gyms playing Lancaster-Lebanon League Schools. Most travel will be local to rival schools with some games being outside the area but no longer than a 30 minute drive. We are not traveling to Philadelphia, Baltimore, etc.
League Details
- There is an expectation that the players attend all scheduled practices and make basketball their priority if they are playing multiple sports. If you do have a conflict you will work it out directly with your coach. We know that some boys will have football conflicts at the beginning of practices.
- This is not an equal playing time league. This may be the first team sport your child has played in that is not set up as equal playing time. All coaches are required to play each player, but additional playing time will be earned through performance/hustle/attitude in practice and in games. Attitude, practice attendance, practice attention and performance are all factors that help determine playing time.
- If your child does not make a team, we recommend the Manheim Township Rec League to develop skills and have fun playing in games. This league is facilitated by MT "Parks & Rec", not the school. That site is www.manheimtownship.org and this year the registration ends in mid November.
- As you see above there is also a lot of practice in this league. This is designed to develop your child’s basketball skills and prepare them for the next level of competitive basketball in MT middle school.
Thank you for your interest in MTTBA. Our written and expressed goal is to leave your child a better basketball player than when they started, and ensure they have a stronger love for the game. Please send any questions to MTTBApresident@gmail.com.
