This past weekend, the 10U Travellers played in the USSSA 2012 Summer Splash WSQ in Medford, NJ. The tournament consisted of nine “B” rated teams. On Saturday, the 10’s went 2-1 losing their first game to the EW Thunder 5-4. The girls won their next two games over the Jersey Flames 12-0 and the Staten Island Saints 15-4. After Saturday’s games, the 10’s were seeded third going into Sunday. On Sunday, the 10’s played the 6th seeded Jersey Flames. The girl’s bats came alive late to break a 5-5 tie to take a 10-5 win. In the semis, the 10’s faced the the second seeded EW Thunder. The game was hard fought by both teams and included several lead changes. The 10’s bats came alive again to take a 9-5 lead only to have the Thunder tie it up in the bottom of the 6th as time expired. This forced the game to go into the International Rules Tie Breaker, the game goes into extra innings with the previous innings last batter being placed on 2nd base with no outs. The 10’s were able to score 6 runs in the top half of the inning which included a double by Jameson Volko. The Thunder was only able to manufacture 1 run in the bottom of the inning giving the Travellers a 15-10 win. In the finals, the 10’s faced the top seeded GCNJ Cyclones. The 10’s 2012 record against the Cyclones was 1-2 going into the championship game. With solid pitching from Anna Reynolds and great team defense, the Travellers put together an almost error free game to take the championship 6-3. (Not pictured Coach Jay Meany and Danielle Sabatina)
