Joining Team Ippon

Ippon Judo Dojo meets in the youth gym at the Lakewood YMCA, so all students must be YMCA members. You can check out the Lakewood YMCA and all the benefits and the cost of membership at www.tacomaymca.org. The only other cost of participation in judo is the price of a uniform. Uniform costs vary by size, ranging from $40 to $60. If you want to compete in tournaments, the national judo organizations require you to purchase an insurance card for $50 per year. Tournaments charge entry fees, which are typically about $30 per person.

You can join judo at any time. There is no need to wait for a new YMCA session to start, or to sign up as you would for other YMCA classes. Just come to class on Monday or Wednesday, and ask to speak to an instructor. If you have never done judo before, we ask that you watch one full class before you start. A parent or guardian must observe the class with minors and give permission for them to join.
