Playoff Preview
1. Practice Squad (8-0) Strength: This team has tremendous size and good rebounders. They play physical and get under opponents' skin. They also have good shooters like Mike Yoo, Atif Sajid, and Ali Mokdad. Big men Ahtir Tahir and Macky Pannu are like immovable rocks in the post and they clog up the paint. Weakness: They play relatively slow How to beat this team: Run and gun and hope you can outscore them |
2. Toon Squad (7-1) Strength: Chris Lee, Tom Hwang, and Andrew Kim are athletic players who are also skilled. Aaron Kim is an excellent shooter and Andy Ahn provides steady play and leadership. This team is becomming more confident with each victory. Everyone contributes and they find a way to win. Weakness: Lack true center, weak bench How to beat this team: Shut down guard Andrew Kim, their most explosive and aggressive player |
3. Rosco Monsters (5-3) Strength: This team has a top point guard in Katai Sayyakone, a good shooter in Jerry Shang, along with big bodies like David Noh, Billy Chin, Hanson Wong, and Jesse Winchester. They can really pound the rock inside if they wanted to and wear out opposing teams. Weakness: Few on paper, lack chemistry sometimes, poor FT% How to beat this team: Slow down David Noh, force Katai into a scorer instead of a passer |
4. Teddy Bears (5-3) Strength: Consistency is a trademark of this team. Timmy Dam continues to provide steady point guard play, Bo Noung continues to score, and Vechet Nhep does it all. The addition of Meng Xiong provides another deadly shooter. Johnny Hughes and Met Tang are stong inside players if they show up. Weakness: Not much bench, inconsistent post play How to beat this team: Push the ball, hope they get tired |
5. Atl Hwaks (5-3) Strength: This team has a willing passer in Steve Kim, an excellent shooter in Young-Min Kim, and a top scorer in Josh Kim. Josh Lee can light it up with his turnaround jumper, and others on the team also contribute. Often playing from behind, this team finds a way to win because they believe in each other. Weakness: Too finesse sometimes, trouble playing physical teams How to beat this team: Pound the ball and grind them down |
6. Asians In Paris (4-4) Strength: Brian Kim provides great point guard play and leadership for this team. Other players like Minsoo Park, Daniel Lee, Paul Jung, and Albert Kang have improved their play as well. To win games Asians In Paris has to play good team offense and defense. Everyone needs to contribute. Weakness: Lack identity, need go-to guy How to beat this team: Play strong defense, hope Shun Gokita doesn't show up |
7. Kang (2-6) Strength: If everyone shows up this is a formidable team. Point guard Roy Kang can get hot and hit big threes, and other guards like Lester Deleon, Koji Santiago, and Syracuse Flandez can also score. Size is not an issue since this team has big guys like Harry Sloan, Nate Parker, and James Pock. Weakness: Lack consistent play this season How to beat this team: Play team ball, not street ball |
8. Old Timers (2-6) Strength: This team has a steady point guard in Chuong Dinh, a crafty scorer in Kevin Nguyen, an all-around player in Tony Phan, a deadly 3-point shooter in Bobby Ly, an agressive player in Phong Nguyen, and a powerful big man in Ernesto Duterte. Recent additions also help the team. Weakness: Poor defense, lack chemistry and team play at times How to beat this team: Take advantage of their mistakes |
