NEW RULE TO TAKE EFFECT IN 2011 HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL SEASON
Softball pitchers moved farther from home plate
High school softball pitchers will be farther from home plate starting in 2010-11.
In an effort to create a better balance between offense and defense, the National Federation of State High School Associations passed a rule that increases the distance between the plate and the pitching circle from 40 feet to 43 feet.
The rule will be mandatory for the 2010-11 school year, but state governing bodies were given an option to implement the rule this year. The California Interscholastic Federation chose to wait a year before enforcing the rule. (from utprepsports.com)
