THE OLYMPIC CONNECTION

Inline Speed Skating was one of the sports reviewed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to be included in the 2012 Olympic Games. Although our bid fell short, USARS is constantly making every effort to join the Olympic program and has high hopes for inclusion into the 2016 Olympic platform. Chad Hedrick who won bronze, silver, and gold at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games started his career in inline speed skating, winning 50 World Championship titles. Joey Cheek and Apolo Ohno each brought home at least two medals from the 2006 Winter Games, including Olympic Gold. There were eleven former inline speed skaters that were Olympians in the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, Italy that started their successful careers with roller sports. Also, Tara Lapinski, a former roller figure skater, captured the coveted Olympic Gold at the 1998 Winter Olympics.
