Author TOPIC: USPL Tournament Interest Aug 6-8

Guys we have Crosby booked the weekend Aug 6-8 and want to know who be interested in playing a league only tournament that weekend.

I was thinking of making 6-8 mixed teams from our league with a max of 4 regular season teammates per team, so that guys will get a chance to meet and play with other players in the league.

Another idea would be to create 4 teams from our league and invite 4 from the Markham men's league to compete against each other from bragging rights of the local pubs.

Please reply with your thoughts, interest and new ideas. I thought anyone out there that has a kids team in needs of a fund raising idea might be able to run a beer tent and bbq for the weekend to raise some money.

I like the sounds of this.

I would be interested in playing in a USPL only mix up tourny. I know most of the guys in the league but it would be fun to play with them instead of against.

If this happens, I will be sure to make sure I'm available that weekend.

If Lewis is the backbone of Wing It (MJ, Craig, Mark, Pat, Jordan, Shimmy, Welcher and David might disagree), then I am the funnybone...funny as in my swing or lack thereof...time for the batting cages.

You will be happy to know that I am on holidays, but otherwise would have been happy to ride the pines for one of the teams...

OK so it looks like like we are going to go ahead with USPL only tournament. So what I'm asking for is 6-8 guys to volunteer to be captains of their respective teams. Responsible for rounding up another 11-13 players to play with them, with no more than 5 players from one regular season team. They will also help with creating their team name, rounding up uniforms (tee shirts maybe provided via sponsor) and coming up with the rules we want to play by and carry forward, as we hopefully, create a annual fun tournament for the league

Please reply with your interest, maybe even a list of your team if you got that already.

And posters spread the word to your teammates, we are going to need around 80-100 interested players to get this going.

Chris, I have been pushed by some of my buddies in the league to be the captain of our team. Let me know if this is cool b/c I have been told we already have a team put together.

I think we should play with the same rules we do now. But thats just my opinion.

I agree with you Lewis...like beers! but it is a fun tournament and the intention is not to replace the Pride (great tournament) or the playoff weekend...The tent takes alot of organization..not to say, if anyone wanted to step up and do it by all means..but it is a tournament of 'friends' and a great way to play with guys that you love to drink with after games in the parking lot..that you don't get the privilege of playing with on a weekly basis..

If it works out, we can make this an annual thing...a tournament that is included in your annual fees...alot of leagues around the GTA do the same thing....great way to get everyone involved...

So as it looks now, were gonna have 6 execs captain a team each they are: Chris L.* Jeff L.* George V.* Jamie B.* Scott F.* John K. There will 2 divisions of 3 teams. Play a 3 team round robin Friday night Saturday morning, then 2nd and 3rd place teams will cross over and play each other for the chance to play the 1st place teams in the semis with a finals Saturday night.

My suggestion is for all players interested to submit their name by a certain (strict) deadline. That way we can balance teams in terms of talent, variety of teams represented, numbers etc. Once all names are in, the captains can select players. Wuddya think? We still have to determine the ONE contact person.

Bowen, I hear ya...and that's partly my point. We have everything from full teams already together with 12, some with 10, some with barely a handful, some Captains had talked about playing together etc... Before this thing gets away from us we need to get EVERY NAME playing submitted - even if that means already on a team - and then go from there. That's not saying full teams now will remain the same, just that we'll have the names. Hopefully it'll work out for you and the team you put in can stay the same, but I just know that there's been a lot of talk about people playing with people and it keeps changing. Let me talk quick with the exec.s about picking a lead contact and I'll post something later today.

Thanks to everyone for making this tournament a great success, especially George and Gonso for their organization and leg work getting everything together.

Thank to my teammates for agreeing to play, sorry I let the team down base running, fielding and hitting, but at least we were the best looking team out there.

And on that note, a big thank you to Paul from Duchess for outfitting us so well. I'm sure my team, the umpires and all the teams involved will continue to thank him with our continued patronage.

Thanks again and lets make this even better next year.
