HOUNDS NIP SCOTTIES

NBC journeyed to Bordentown High School for an important Liberty Division night game against the Scotties. Bordentown entered the game with a 11-2 record while the hounds were 6-2. The temperatures made for a night not reminiscent of late April. In the top of the first Nicole Bondoc, showing no ill effects of a recent wisdom tooth surgery slashed a base hit to left field and promptly stole second base to put a runner into scoring position before some of the fans had settled into their seats. Megan Berg drove Nikki B home and the hounds were on the board. Lexie Blue followed with a stratospheric shot over the center field wall to create a 3-0 lead. Staked to a three run lead Haylei Archer strode to the mound and shook off the rust accumulated as a result of nearly two weeks of inactivity. Arch struck out the side although the Scotties did score a run. It was clear that the hounds had their bats finely honed as they had strong at bats with the ball whistling into the night. In the top of the fourth, with the bases loaded, Arch came to the plate and smoked a ball to left field to bring in two runs. Arch was breezing through the Bordentown lineup and only allowed two balls to be put into play in five innings of work. Arch struck out 13 in the first five as it was apparent that Arch was back. The always reliable Gonz came into the game in the bottom of the sixth and earned the save for the yappers. Final score 5-3 dawgs.
NOTES-The yappers rapped out nine hits against the Scotties. In the movie The Natural, Roy Hobbs ends the game by smashing the lights in the stadium. The ball that Lex hit might have taken out one of those lights if in the orbital path of Lex’s bomb. In the bottom of the sixth with two runners on and the scotties trying to claw their way back into the game, a ball was hit into right field and it seemed that trouble was brewing. Riley Gripp glided under the ball to make a great over the head grab to help snuff out a potential rally. The birthday girl, Jules Mayernik, had a fitting celebratory evening with two hits and two base on balls as she allegedly extended the game 20 minutes with her at bats. The beleaguered Bordentown pitcher was worn to a nub by the tenacious Jules.
