HOUNDS CELEBRATE IN NIGHT GAME VICTORY OVER RED DEVILS

NBC hosted RVRHS for their second consecutive night game and the first home night game of the season. The game was played under ideal weather conditions as the two foes faced off for the second time in league competition. Haylei struck out two batters in the first which would be a foreshadowing of the tenor of this game. In the bottom of the first, Megan Berg laced a double to right center and came home on the first of two Lex Blue’s base hits. Arch struck out the side in the second while in the midst of six consecutive K’s. In the bottom of the third the dawgs scored two runs via errors and then with Hannah Alexander on board, Arch deposited some nighttime yard work over the left field fence which gave the yappers a 5-0 lead. The red devils were completely overmatched by the pitching of Arch as she gave up just three hits and rang up 15 strikeouts for a two night total of 28 whiffs. The dawg pound would score again in the fourth on the base thievery of the mercurial Bon-Bon as she singled –stole second-pilfered third and scored on an errant throw. Bon being Bon. In the sixth inning Bergie, generally considered an artist of hitting a double into the gap, decided that it was about time that she entered the yard work extravaganza and she rocketed a shot into the night for a home run. Final score 7-1 dawgs.
NOTES-The first night home game was a victory at various levels. Certainly, a win over a division opponent was a cause for celebration and no doubt the opponent being RVRHS added to the joy. It was also the 200th career win for Coach Corcoran as the dawg pound congratulated the surprised coach in left field after the game. The fact that the 200th was against the coach’s alma mater added another layer to this night. Coach Corcoran has been at the helm of the hounds since 2008 and was the head coach at Sterling High School for two years previously. Congrats, coach on a well deserved celebration. Many thanks to the unbelievably supportive parents for setting this up and for their continued backing of a program that is, indeed, the envy of South Jersey.
