HOUNDS MOVE TO SEMIFINALS WITH WIN

NBC entertained Westampton Tech. in the second round of playoffs on a warm day where scattered showers appeared at various junctures of the afternoon. The Panthers entered the game after defeating number 10 seed Nottingham where their pitcher had struck out 14 hitters and earlier in the year had fanned 17 batters in a loss to Moorestown. The hounds, therefore, were ready for a battle against Tech. The confrontation never materialized for two reasons. First, leadoff extraordinaire Nikki Bon, led off with an infield hit and gazed at the unoccupied 2nd base, whereupon she stole second as the Panthers must have wondered what kind of tomfoolery were they going to see as the game progressed. Bon came in on a sacrifice fly and the hounds were on the board. The dawgs would score four more in the inning as JJ pushed across two with a hit. The second reason that the game didn’t live up to its hype was that the panther pitcher suffered an injury and the game went south for the visitors in the blink of an Arch fastball. The yappers continued to get on base with patient at bats and although they only registered nine hits they had 11 base on balls. Offensively, JJ had four RBI’S and Lex clobbered a pitch over the left field fence for a two run homerun. Very few times will someone witness what happened on the mound on Monday. Arch pitched three perfect innings striking out eight of the nine batters that she faced. Only a bunt attempt marred pure perfection. Gonz came in to start the top of the fourth and continued the purity of the game by striking out four of the six batters that she faced and only allowed two balls to be put into fair territory. That is, folks, 15 up 15 down a perfect game with only three balls put into play. Some may not see another perfect game for a while. Final score 13-0 hounds.
NOTES-The hounds were hoping to sharpen their claws by being able to dig out a victory against top pitching. They came away with a win but the offense had to look for pitches that sometimes were not there thus necessitating the yappers taking a walk. Looking at how the game unfolded, the hope is that the patience that was shown by the dawgs will translate into success in the next game. On Thursday, the hounds will host Middletown North in the semifinals of Group Three Central Jersey
