A hard fought game during an early morning 9am start on Saturday Sept 24th as the Cavs took on 3rd place Selkirk.

Selkirk struck first in the first half, but the score was equalized by a brilliant effort from Shane in the corner, who lobbed in a cross into the 18yard box to be converted for a goal game tie 1-1.

before 2nd half, the ref asked mgmt from the cavs who were not on the game sheet to move to the bleachers to watch. hiebert reinforced that the pictues were better on that side anyway.

Selkirk struck again in the 2nd half but a good effort by Shane in the selkirk box was rewarded with a penalty kick after he was sliced down. with it converted the game was 2-2 as it went into 2 extra time halfs.

nothing was settled and it was down to penalty kicks. with gio gone for a family event, that left the starting 5 cavs as sterling, shane, chris, AOC and adam M.

Needless to say the penalty kicks went to the sixth shooters. with selkirk saving the cavs attempt the selkirk keeper slotted home the winner past mike to advance selkirk to the next round of the playoffs against spitfire.

overall, not a terrible season. cavs finished 6th, eliminated in the playoffs that could have went either way.

now the focus is on the windup, rebuilding for next year with the departures of some regulars and see how "Manitoba's most popular soccer team" returns in 2006.

Want to know what to buy the cavs for Xmas?
A watch. The game started at noon with less than a full squad. In fact i think it was 8 or 9 guys. Seems that the game time was changed 2 weeks ago from 3pm to noon.

Apparantly everyone forgot. No matter, the Cavs started out strong against a full IPAC squad and put in 2 quick goals. They coasted through the game and added another to put the game as a final 3-0 victory.

The monkey is off their back and hopefully he can crawl into that pit that he came from.

2 more games to go against the Spurs, who are basically relegated to D3 for 2006 and Spitfire, the runner's up for the D2 Champions this year.

First outing against SPurs produced alot of shaking heads as the cavs failed to put the ball in the net, and resulted in a 0-0 draw.

First matchup with Spitfire was a 2-0 loss, but more importantly both goals were scored in the final 5 minutes of play.

With "old' Dale still hurt Mike N is still the keeper going into the final games and playoffs.

The best the cavs can do is 4th, but they will need help from other teams and need to win their final games. They should still be able to secure a post season berth in the playoffs.

Here's hoping there are no morning games :)

Last but not least, congrats to Blair Kissel who was called up to play by the Affiliate Fusion team for the cavs against IPAC and was rewarded with a goal. Good job.

Until next time, watch out for the phantom cav, and who will he be watching next?

The Cavs sit a respectable 6-6-5 in the Division 2 standings.Unfortunately, there is a log jam with the other teams, making it tight from 3rd to 9th. They sit in 8th but a win could move them to 6th.

with 5 games to go, they face IPAC who they drew last time 2-2, pescara who they won 1-0, spitfire, who they lost 2-0 in their first match and Stjames spurs twice.
The cavs haven't scored in the last 3 games, and the last 7 games have posted a 1 w, 3L, and 3 T. Their GF is 7, GA 10.
What are the chances for the post-season?
I think pretty good. i'm bias of course but they can take 6 points from the bottem spurs, they should get another 6 from IPAC and pescara if the gods are smiling. All of these teams will be huge tests, but the biggest will be against Spitfire at the end of the season.

23 points can become 38 points if the gods are smiling, and would leave them in either a 3rd or 4th spot.

What are the bright points?
The cavs unearthed some good signings. Eric voted rookie of the month has become a first team player, who played juvenile soccer last year with Gateway.
Sterling "too thirsty" Johnson has returned to the fold after his trip to the Orient. Shane Boshinator has returned from a lengthy suspension and has contributed 5 goals in 4 games in a short time.

Mike N has filled in well for the injured Dale in net. Kris has been a versatile player coming from AC Italia.
Brent W has been solid in the mid, and the stupendous "FREE AGENT" #71 Adam O'connor has brought his liveliness, swagger and the love for the dark brown ale to the team this year.

Gio has been a standout, contributing 8 goals from midfield, and being help by Adam M and David M up front.

So 5 games is along time. Lot's of points to get and something to build on for next season.

Constant rumors swirl around that Polonia won't return and are facing relegation to D1, which would leave the 3rd place finisher promotion to DIvision 1 for 2006

So let's see what happens. onward and upward.
