Coach Cavan is Back

Cavan O'Connor, who lead the Cavs to a 8-3-5 record in 2006 is back behind the bench for the 2007 season and looking for gold.

" The team had a lot of new faces in 2006. We were unlucky in a few games, bad bounces, bad goals, but overall i was pleased with what we did out there, and 4th in the Gold Division was a fair result "

Cavan want's more commitment from the boys in white this season, with the goal being the Division 2 crown.

Despite the 4th place finish in the Gold section, the Cavs were fourth overall between Gold and Black, finishing with 29 points, 3 points higher than the Blue Blazers who finished top of the Black Group.

It's a new story this year. Re-structuring has been completed, and Division 2 will have 18 teams, amalagmating the bottem 3 finishers from D1 and promotion of some teams from Division 3.

The Cavs will play each opponent only once, so every game is crucial for the Division 2 crown.

The top 2 teams from Division 2 will be promoted to Division 1 for the 2008 season, and the bottem 3 teams will be relegated to Division 3.

The quest for the crown starts May 17th at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex against promoted Bonivital United.

Cavs march to finals

The cavs took the field in the semi's against opponent Chaco Fc. Chaco had only 5 players to start, leaving them one short to start the game.
That didn't seem to matter as Chaco outhussled the Cavs as they tried to find their rhyhtm, and provided constant pressure.
The cavs were finally rewarded in the 20th minute. Matt collected the ball on the right side, moved to the corner and drove a low hard cross to the waiting Cam who made no mistake and rifled it past the keeper to make it 1-0.
4 minutes later, Matt was the provider again, crossing the ball to an unmarked Jimmy, who beat the keeper to put them up by two.
It took 9 minutes into the 2nd half to go up by 3. this time cam the provider as he put a low shot to the far post that was scooped by his brother and calmly smashed into the net.
Chaco finally had their 6th player arrive but Shane put one past the keeper, followed by an excellent individual job by hefe. Hefe received the ball on the left side, dragged the ball with his right foot and quickly shot with his left to surprise the keeper as it slid past him to the far post.
Chaco got a questionable goal in the 2nd half. The immigrant ref who lacked basic english skills, judged that some negative comments by Matt on the bench deserved a yellow card and 2 minute penalty. while the cavs were asking for clarification on whether 4 or 5 players should be on the field, the chaco attacker took the shot and beat scott.
the ref allowed the goal to stand, and than decided to answer that 5 players could still be on the field.
With the 5-1 win, Cavs will either face All businesse or southeast FC on sunday night at 10pm.

Cavs on to the semi's

In a tense matchup against the Roaring Lambs, the Cavs went up 6-0 in the half, and went on to win 11-4, giving them a berth in the semi's on friday
Shane got the Cavs on the board 7 minutes in, and went on to score 4 more goals.
Despite some game start problems, the Cavs found their rhythm and never looked back.
They constantly dominated play, and left the Lambs few chances.
The lambs chances were furthur hurt with 2 minutes left in the 1st half.
a Lamb's player was called for a blatant forearm to the back of Miguel's head, after he was on the wrong side of a tackle.
Miguel kept his cool and the lamb player decided to confront the ref angrily for the call. The yellow quickly became a red when he tapped the ref on the cheek.
Credit to Justin Hart for keeping his cool and immediately sending the player to the "showers" for the rest of the game and a 5 minute penalty for the Lambs.
The cavs kept pouring on the pressure, but Scott had to exit the net due to illness. In stepped Hefe, who was more concerned about avoiding the hard shots than stopping them.
Despite letting in 3 goals, it was not enough to keep the lambs in the game, and the Cavs walked away with the division trophy and game winner, booking their place to the semi's.
Their opponent will be the winner of Chaco F.C./Power and the GLory
Game on friday, 7:50pm

Cavs take the Division!!!!

Despite only fielding 7 players last night, in a must win game for first place, the Cavs still came out on top, by a score of 3-1.
The 10:50 pm start time did not help with many starters missing due to prior commitments and injuries.
Chaco FC fielded a young team, with 4 subs on the bench, but did not raise the tempo of the game, much to the delight of the Cavs.
Shane got the cavs started off. A hard corner shot from Jeremy found Shane, who slammed the ball past the keeper despite tight marking.

Jeremy was provider again. Winning the ball in center half, he chipped a shot into the 18 yd box. After deflecting slightly off a Chaco FC defender, the ball fortuitously landed at the foot of Richie. Richie stretched to hit the ball one time, and it agonizingly dribbled past the keeper into the far corner to put the Cavs up by 2.
The second half continued the way the first half ended. The Cavs controlled most of the play, despite tired legs, and forced the Chaco defenders into some errors.
Jeremy was finally rewarded for his effort 15 minutes in. A long ball from Scooter found Jeremy, who neatly controlled and beat 3 Chaco defenders to find some space and fire the ball past the keeper to make it 3.
Chaco rec'd a consolation goal. A sloppy clearance and tired legs could not prevent a run down the middle and the Chaco mid made no mistake beating Scooter.
Special thanks to the defensive "iron men" Jimmy and Miguel who played the whole 60 minutes without a sub, Jeremy who played 95% of the match from mid, and the 3 strikers, Shane, Kieran and Rich who put constant pressure o the Chaco backline.

With the final result 3-1, the Cavs secured first place for the divsion, and maintained an unbeaten record in pre and regular season.

The Cavs are also the only team in the league to have an unbeaten season, large in part to the depth of the squad
Team top goal scorers was Warren Isbister who missed the last 7 games but managed to finish in the top 5 with 24 goals. Close behind was Cam Sheppard with 21 goals, Jeremy and Matt with 10 a piece.

The first game of the playoffs will be April 15th at 9:30pm against either Barcelona or Roaring Lambs. Both teams have games on Sunday the 13th and their results will determine final placing.

Cavs 1 game away from maintaining 1st place!!

Cavs were victorious tonight and knocked off the last undefeated team in the division, by a score of 6-4
(Game report to follow)
Cavs can maintain first place if they win their remaining game against Chaco F.C. With both Southeast and All business playing their last game against "cellar dwellers" a loss or a tie will make it difficult for a first place finish.

Cavs in action saturday at 10:50pm

Roaring Lambs are tamed!!!

In what was going to be a physical, hard fought game, the Cavs were gunning to avenge the tie the last time these two met.
With a fuller lineup compared to their last meeting, the Cavs started strong with some slick passing, and were up 3-0 after 15 minutes.
RL pulled one back on a free kick, that left scooter no chance as it beat the wall and found the top corner.
The cavs went into the half 4-1 up, knowing that they are a 2nd half team.
The Cavs didn't disappoint. they let a couple in, but spurred by the 5 goal performance of Cam Sheppard, the cavs worked for their victory and came out 9-4 winners.
Derrick P added one with a low hard shot from the sideline and Shane added to his ongoing tally.
Matt Sheppard capped off the night with a brace. the final goal courtesy of a kick in from the far sideline that made its way to Hefe.
Hefe chested it down, and chipped it to the unmarked Matt, who one-timed it past the keeper at the stroke of the buzzer.
Man of the Match : Matt Sheppard with his 5 goal performance
Honorary M.O.M: Jimmy.
After an RL forward continued running toward scooter, despite not having the ball, scooter kept his ground, grabbed the ball, and waited for the forward to hit him.
and hit him he did. Scooter, 130lb's soaking wet, kept standing, and the RL forward flopped on the ground clutching his head like he had been shot.
Mr. Jimmy "moustache" Jaworsky calmly walked over to the downed forward and offered the following advice
"dude, you're never going to get laid falling down like that "

Good stuff Jimmy!
Next up, Southeast F.C.- A.K.A Hanover Strikers/Kickers

St.Paddy's Day Massacre

I'm stealing the title from team member Hefe, who accurately described the drubbing the Cavs handed 2nd last place BFR on St. Patrick's Day
Despite the score, BFR conducted themselves professionally on and off the field. They didn't resort to cheap tackles, or intent to injure, which shows a lot of character.
It took about 10 minutes for the cavs to warm up. The BFR keeper made some outstanding saves to keep Cam off the score sheet. Kieran broke the deadlocke, tapping in a rebound created by Mr. Santos
The score finished 3-0, favour the cavs, with the 3rd goal coming from Hootie at center. The BFR keeper tried to unsuccessfully bomb the ball down the field. With the Keeper out of position, and the ball falling nicely to hootie, he made no mistake with his left foot, chipping the ball over the back peddaling keeper to make the score 3.
The Cavs went on to score 9 more goals in the second half. Shane, Matt, Kieran and Jeremy had a brace with defenders Derrick and Hefe getting into the scoring action with a freekick and low shot from the sidelines repsectively.
All the goals were quality and left the BFR goalie no shot on what can be dubbed "the St.Paddy's day massacre"
Next game has been changed from saturday at noon, to thursday, March 20th at 10:20 pm.
Every game counts. with 3 games left, the cavs trail All business by 1 pt, and Southeast by 4 points, with a game on hand.
playoffs are to take place the week of april 16th, tentatively.

The Steak remains alive

The cavs faced off monday night against the undefeated All Business. AB had suffered only 1 defeat during pre-season against the one and only Cavs.
The Cavs made it 13 games in a row of fielding a different lineup for each game. compounding that, another member is gone for the season. Warren, division top goal scorer suffered a knee injury playing for another team at the skylight, ended his indoor season and casting doubts on outdoor.
Bad boy 'Jimmy' received a red card against the shockers, making him ineligible for tonights match. Playboz Hefe, Richie, Kieran and DP were away on holidays leaving it lean on the bench.
The Cavs were pleased to welcome Shane bosch back from injury. His first game back since November, he didn't disappoint. 10 minutes in, Cam controlled the ball on the sidelines and chipped it over the middle, to be deflected to an AB defender right onto the chest of Shane.
Shane one-timed it past the keeper to bring them the lead.
A few minutes later, some sloppy defending led to the Cavs unable to clear a loose ball in their box. An AB forward said "thank you very much" and beat Scooter on the far side to tie it up.
It remained tied until the 2nd half. Matt made it two, after Scott lobbed the ball down into the All business half. Matt shielded the ball and outmuscled 2 defenders to go up by one.
The other sheppard, Cam made it 3. Hootie chipped a beautiful ball to Cam who brought it down and slammed it into the net, leaving the keeper no chance.
Matt notched another one. Similar to his first, a long ball was caught by Matt who than went to outmuscle and beat an All business defender and make it 4.
All business got one back. a low corner kick got past Hootie and landed on the foot of an attacker directly behind him that he hammered past scott to bring it to within 2.
The cavs shored up their defense and went on to win 4-2.
All business provided great competition, and is one of the tougher teams in the divison. A great game for the fans.
Next up is Power and the glory on Saturday March 8th, 9:10 pm

Cavs=Sexy soccer!!!!

The Cavs fielded a full two lines in their matchup against Shockers. Missing division lead scorer,Izzy, the Cavs were going to have to get their goals from the other team members.
And they didn't disappoint. The cavs took the lead early on with some slick one-two passing. A low cross by Cam from the right side was met by his brother Matt, who gave the keeper no chance as he blasted it into the net to take a 1-0 lead.
The Cavs doubled their lead by Jimmy who took another cross from the right side and hammered it past the shockers keeper again.
Hootie made it 3, another tic-tac-toe effort from Matt, with Hootie calmly rifling the ball into the top corner, leaving the keeper no chance.
2nd half continued with more pressure by the Cavs. The short shockers bench made it difficult to amount any type of serious offensive threat.
Hootie scored the fourth, or did he? From an impossible angle, Hootie shot the ball from the left corner, beating the keeper on the short side.
Unbelieveably, the shockers keeper claimed that the ball entered the net from the outside of the post, not the inside. Despite having the Barcelona F.C. standing behind the net, Barca claimed to have not seen anything.
The crying worked, and the ref, who was in no position to have judged whether it was in our our, disallowed the goal and play continued.
Cam made it officially 4, with some accurate passing, beating the defender and keeper on the short side.
#5 was a beaut. Hefe took the ball into the right corner, and waited for the on rushing Derrick, making his way from a defensive position, to side foot the one-timed ball on the short side of the keeper, adding to the Cavs tally.
With 4 minutes to spare, some strange incidents happened. An obviously disgruntled Shockers player had possession of the ball and rifled it at the Cavs bench. The Cavs thankfully had their heads up and avoided a major incident. Apparantly some comments to the shockers player earlier had him fired up for revenge. Shockers mgmt than had him sit for the remainder of the game.
The cavs quickly found themselves down one man with a yellow card. Than on the Shockers attack, Jimmy brought down the player from behind while getting a piece of the ball
The ref judged it to be an automatic red card and sent him off, leaving the cavs with 3 players on the field vs. 5.
The constant pressure continued and Shockers were rewarded with a sloppy goal, destroying Scooter's shut out.
Cavs left 5-1 winners and prepare for their next game against All business, who have suffered only 1 loss in pre-season & regular season, which came at the hands of the Cavs, a 4-1 loss.
The Cavs will be also missing Izzy, who has apparantly has injured his knee and will be possibly missing the remainder of the season.
Next game is Monday February 24th.

Cavs notch another win

Cavs took on outdoor team member, Punch and his team "Friend of the Road", FOTR.
Pride was on the line. Scooter Keast did not want Punch to put a bulge in the ol onion bag.
The cavs wanted to be up one on Punch.
FOTR struck first with some sloppy defending by the Cavs.
Cavs equalized soon after. Hootie rifled a low cross from the right that was connected by Cam to bring them level.
Izzy got on the scoresheet and continued his scoring leadership in the division beating a few defenders to bring them up by one.
Disaster struck when a rushing Punch from a defensive position powered the shot beating Scooter, but hitting the crossbar. The rebound landed in front of a FOTR forward who slotted it past scooter to tie it up at 2.
The FOTR keeper kept the team in the race for a tie or a win, stoning Cam and Izzy on multiple occasions.
With 2 minutes left, cavs pressure paid off. Izzy deked out a few defenders and sent a low shot pass the outstretched keeper to give them a lead.
The cavs kept the defensive wall up and walked out with a vital win to pass FOTR in the standings temporarily.
Currently only 3 teams have been unbeaten, Cavs, All business and Southeast.
Next up is West WPG United, which have dropped their last 4 games and are looking to add to their 1 win for the season

Cavs maintain form, add another win

The last time the Cavs played West winnipeg united, it was a tense physical game with the cavs leaving with a 6-4 win.
It looked like the skeleton crew was going to make an appearance, with only 5 cavs in the dressing room before the game.
oops we were wrong. Upon entering the field, 4 more team mates were changing on the bench to give us 9 players against WWU 8.
The game started slowly with the cavs putting some nice passes together but couldn't find the net.
7 minutes in, izzy ended the deadlock. streaking from the bench, he took a ball down the left side and fired a low, hard shot at the near post, beating the keeper and giving the cavs a one goal advantage.
after that i lost track. slick passing capitalized on a under manned WWU team and the Cavs added another 2 before the half, Cam and Jim scoring.
2nd half became a shooting gallery for the Wpg united keeper, who faced shot after shot.
Credit to WWU who held their head high trying to get at least a consolation goal, but an injury to one of their players left their side tired.
The Winnipeg keeper faced barrage of shots and to his credit kept a great deal out, despite what the score says.
The Cavs added another 6 goals in the 2nd half. Warren completing his hat trick, a brace from Matt, with Jim and Jeremy adding to the total.
Next up is Shockers united, who's stubborn keeper and defense held the Cavs first time around to only 2 goals.
Game time Sunday the 17th at 9:20pm.

No subs vs Young team,Cavs manage a draw

A typical turnout for a late saturday game saw just 6 cavs make it out to Birds hill.
The barcelona bench a had a few more guys, like 8, and it looked like the Cavs could suffer their first loss.
But like a thriller/suspense movie, not everything goes to plan. Izzy got the ball rolling dekeing a few defenders to put the cavs up 1-0.
Hootie added a second one. A bouncing ball in the crease was hammered by Kris, leaving the keeper no chance and putting the Cav's up by 2.
It was quite comical. Barcelona fielded some young players with lots of energy, but struggled to put the ball past Scott.
2nd half was a different story. Peptalk or Powerade, something set off the Barcelona team. They came out storming and popped their first one past Scott.
The second Barcelona goal was predicted by Huth. Yelling "watch the back door" a speedy Barca forward flew behind David and rifled the ball past Keast to tie it up at 2. The barca team cheered like they had won the world cup.
There was limited chances on both ends for the remainder of the half. Both Jeff and Izzy rec'd yellow cards, which afforded them a 2minute break on the bench. Nice!
Despite some pressure in the last 2 minutes, the Cavs couldn't break the deadlock to have the score remain 2-2. An adequate result due to the lack of subs for the Cavs.
Next up Friends of The Road, Monday January 28th.

Cavs return in '08

If you didn't catch the game, it was a barn burner!
The Cavs welcomed Jimmy J and Richie Rich to the lineup, who were recovering from injury.
The youthful West winnipeg united started off fast and caught the Cavs napping to take the lead 1-0 in the early stages
With some beautiful work between "Izzy" and "sexy man Cam" cam got the first for the Cavs from a tough angle to bring it within 1 goal.
The strike was outdone. WWU responded with another goal beating two defenders.
Cam quickly equalized from the kick off. Instead of a pass, Cam lobbed the ball from the restart, catching the keeper napping and to bring the game to within one again.
The game went back and forth, with the Cavs receiving the most cards in one game. Izzy and Cam were a lethal strike force, scoring goals from set pieces and against the run of play. Izzy was successful in scoring by putting the 'ol nutmeg through a couple of defenders and beating the keeper.
The officiating was atrocious, calls were not meant to benefit the mighty cavs at all, and the game was 10 minutes late in starting due to the ref "conversing" with team members from the previous game.
The Cavs have proven to be a 2nd half team, pouring on the energy despite the average age on the bench :)
Next up is Barcelona F.C. who are 1-0-2 in their first 3 games. The Cavs are still undefeated and are moving up in the standings, despite tieing their first two games.

Barn burner of a game!!

See saw game ends up in a draw for the Cavs.
The "SKELETON CREW" Cavs as it's starting to appear took to the field with 7 guys against SouthEast F.C.
SE struck first on a defensive lapse and beat Keast to go up 1-0.
Cavs struck back, or should I say gk Keast. His long boot bounced off a SE Defenders head and past the out of position Southeast keeper to bring them level.
The 2nd goal was a beauty. This time Warren the provider. A kick-in from the right side was volleyed one-time past the SE keeper by "Hootie" A beautiful goal that had to be seen.
S.E tied it up again and it went into the half tied.
Warren again worked his magic in the second half. regardless if he had 2 to 3 defenders in front of him, he managed to find space and knock in a total of 4 goals for the night.
Each time Kildonan scored, it seemed SE would get it back until it was 5-5.
Warren made it six and the 7th goal was created by Warren again.
A square ball was passed to "el presidente" who faked the defender in front of him. David went right creating space and smashed the ball into the far top corner, giving the keeper no chance.
SE came back again. a sloppy line change by the Cavs left them shorthanded at the back which lead to the SE 6th goal.
SE tied it up with 2 minutes left and despite the Cavs pressing, could not find the back of the net, finishing tied up at 7.
Shane hurt his ankle in the 2nd half, but kudos for him remaining in the game and giving the other players a break when needed.
Next up is Chaco F.C. who went 2-0-2 in pre-season and are currently 0-0-1 after losing 1-0 to All business 1-0.

Cavs to remain in Rec. Division for '08

Despite posting a perfect 4-0 record in pre-season at the Skylight Complex, the Kildonan Cavaliers will remain in the Rec division for the balance of the year.
"The other contender, Bayside Boys, also had a perfect record, but outshot their opponents by a greater scoreline than the Cavs. Since only one team moves up, and one team comes down from intermediate, the Cavs are left to compete in the Rec. division" quoted team coach/manager David.
"The boys are enjoying themselves right now. Although it would have been better to move up in the division, we'll take the cards we have been dealt. We already have been hit with a couple of injuries, and the late night games have kept away some team members! "
The Cavs have a bit of a layoff before they're back at Skylight to face Roaring lambs on the Monday the 26th.
Replacing Bayside boys is West Winnipeg United.
Corner Kicks: With his 2 goal performance, Warren Isbister is team top goal scorer with 8 goals in 4 games. Following closely is Cam Sheppard with 6 in 4 games. Warren comes to the cavs from the affiliate team, Kildonan Athletic.
Cam Sheppard was the Cavs top goal scorer in the 2007 season with 10 goals, followed by brother Matt with 5.

Cavs make it 2 in a row!!!

What was a late start, and cutting into drinking time for some Cav's, they took to the field at 11pm against "Power and the Glory"
Jerry got the Cavs on the board quick in the first couple of minutes with a strong individual effort.
A few minutes later, Keeper Keast almost was out for the remainder of the game. A through ball and a chaotic forward from Power slammed into the jaw of Keast as he dove for the ball, busting him open.
After the Skylight staff told Scott not to spit blood on the ground he shook his head and was back on the field.
The Cavs were a bit sloppy on the passing but managed to keep the goals coming, finishing the game as 7-2 winners over Power.
Corner Kicks
Top gun Warren who scored 4 goals against BFR was held scoreless. Defender Huth got his first of the year on a terrific one timed volley with his left foot. Cam scored his first hat trick in years, followed by Shane with 2 goals.

Kildonan kicks off inaugral indoor season with a convincing 8-1 win
Indoor started with a bang!! In their first game at the Skylight complex, Kildonan opened the scoring in the 5th minute and never looked back.
Lead with a 4 goal performance by KAFC star Warren Isbister, Warren notched the first goal of the game, and added 3 more by the end.
A bit of work needs to be done on team chemistry with some new faces on the team. There is no less than 8 new faces to the Cavs roster, but the opening results are promising and positive.
Rounding out the goal scoring were Shane (1) Cam (1)& Jake (2, all from the Cavs outdoor team.
The only embarrasing moment belongs to Scott Keast, who passed the ball on a goal kick to the opposing team, who struck the shot hard and into the net, spoiling Scott's shutout.
Kildonan's next game is Monday at 11pm
