Tournament Results – May 30 - June 1, 2014
The Triad Bulls won the Top Gun Zone qualifier this weekend. They opened up with a 6-1 win against Team Max/WM9. Corey Wiles and Andrew Olvey kept TeamMax/WM9 at bay while timely hitting from Garret Saylor, Cole Pickford and Forrest Ridenhour opened up the scoring.
The Bulls moved on to play the Northern Nights on the second game of the day. The Bulls jumped to an early lead with clutch hits by Isaiah Cogdell, Chase Pyrtle and Tanner Smith. That gave Garrett Saylor plenty of support as he held the Knights in check for 5 innings before leaving the game with a 6-1 lead. The Knights battled back to get the game within a run before Chase Pyrtle closed the game for a 6-5 win for the Bulls.
The Bulls opened up their semi final game against the Riverdogs. Tanner Smith threw 5 innings only giving up one earned run and Dalton Ward made two stellar plays in Right field before coming in and closing out the game throwing two scoreless innings. Michael Foster, Garrett Saylor, Chase Pyrtle and Cole Pickford led a nine run attack that helped put the Bulls in the Championship game with a 9-4 win.
The Bulls started the bottom half of the first with some sloppy defense and gave up 2 unearned runs against the CBC Blue Sox before responding with the bats. Michael Foster got the offense going in the first with a single, then consecutive hits by Dalton Ward and Forrest Ridenhour got the Bulls going and gave them a 4-2 first inning advantage. Michael Foster settled down on the mound and shut out the Blue Sox the rest of the way. The Bulls offense stayed hot and finished up the championship game with a 10-2 victory.
The Bulls will have next weekend off before they head to UNC Asheville and Appalachian State for their next tournament.
Tournament Results – May 23-24, 2014
The Triad Bulls 14's had a successful weekend going 3-1. They beat the SBA Canes 9-0 to open up the weekend on a no hitter by Michael Foster. In game 2, they were beat on a couple costly errors that opened the door to a 10-3 defeat against the Concord Diamond Dawgs.
The 14U Bulls responded on Sunday with a hard fought win, 5-4, against the Rawlings A's Prospects with a good outing from Andrew Olvey and excellent relief from Cole Pickford. The 14's finished off the weekend by beating the Express Baseball Smith 8-6. Tanner Smith threw 5 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball and was relieved by Dalton Ward who finished off the game for the 14's.
The weekend hitting stars for the 14's were Dalton Ward, Garrett Saylor, Isaiah Cogdell who all hit over a .400 clip for the 14u Bulls. The 14u Bulls finished 2nd in their division with a 3 and 1 record. The 14u Bulls will play a local tournament in the Triad Area the weekend of May 31 – June 1.
