We played in the Wingate/Charlotte/Concord area the weekend of October 11-12, 2014.

Saturday, October 11th

at Wingate University
11:30am,  Triad Bulls 10, Team MaxBat (18U) 1, Final 6 innings

Headline: 4 Bulls get 2 hits each and Widmer and Nathan Harrell combine on 2 hitter!

MaxBats scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first but the Bulls regained the lead in the top of the 3rd with 2 runs. With 2 outs, Craig Colbournes skyball appeared as if it was going to be caught, but the MaxBats pitcher lost it in the sun at the last second and Alec Widmer scored from 2B.  Jay Dixon scored on Devin Lumley's infield grounder to 3B.

The Bulls scored 2 more runs in the top of the 4th. Davis O'Brien singled and scored on Ryan Harrell's double. Nathan Harrell singled to score his brother Ryan and a Bulls 4-1 lead.

With the score still 4-1 heading to the 6th, the Bulls broke the game wide open with a 6-run inning.  Jay Dixon drew a bases loaded walk to score Davis O'Brien. Devin Lumley drew a bases loaded walk to score Nathan Harrell. Josh Byrd singled to score both Alec Widmer and Dixon. Chandler McIntyre's 2-run single score Craig Colbourne and Josh Byrd.

Bulls pitching:  Alec Widmer (4 innings, 2 hits, 1 run) and Ryan Harrell (2 innings, 0 hits) combined on the 2-hit shutout.  Each struck out 3 batters and walked none. 

Leading hitters for the Bulls:  Alec Widmer (2-2), Nathan Harrell (2-3 with 1 RBI), Josh Byrd (2-4 with 2 RBI's), Chandler McIntyre (2-2 with 2 RBI's), Ryan Harrell (1-2 with a double and 1 RBI), Isaac Campbell (1-2) and Davis O'Brien (1-4).

at Cox Mill High School
5:45pm, Triad Bulls 1, Kernersville Bulldogs (17U) 1 -- TIE, Game called due to FOG after 5 innings

Headline: Nathan Harrell shines in pitchers dual and Widmer delivers Bulls only hit.

The Bulls scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the 1st inning when Ryan Harrell reached on an error by the SS. Ryan then stole 2B later advanced to 3B on a fielders choice, sliding in under the tag and safe at 3B. Ryan then scored on Jay Dixon's ground ball to SS.

The Bulldogs scored their only run of the game in the 4th inning with a single, sac and run scoring double.

The game was called due to fog at the end of the 5th inning.  The outfielders had started to disappear into the foggy outfield.

Bulls pitching: Nathan Harrell pitched all 5 innings and allowed 1 run on 6 hits, walked 3 and struck out 4.  Nice job Nathan!!

Saturday - September 27th - at Appalachian State University 

11:45am Triad Bulls 6, SBA Canes 2016 Price 1 (8 innings)

Headline: Harrell brothers both sharp on the mound and Nathan and Lumley lead Bulls from the plate with 2 hit days.

The Canes scored 1 run in the bottom of the 1st inning to take a 1-0 lead.

The Bulls came back to tie the game in the top 2nd when Craig Colbourne scored on Isaac Campbell's ground ball to 3B.

The game stayed tied at 1-1 until the top of the 3rd when Isaac Campbell singled to score pinch runner Craig Colbourne.

With the Bulls still holding a slim 2-1 lead going to the top of the 8th, the bats came alive!  Craig Colbourne doubled to score Alec Widmer for a 3-1 lead. Devin Lumley singled to score Jay Dixon and a 4-1 lead. Isaac Campbell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Colbourne scored. Josh Byrd was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and that scored pinch runner Craig Colbourne.

Bulls pitching:  Nathan Harrell started the game and pitched 5 solid innings.  Nathan allowed 4 hits, 1 run, walked 1 and struck out 3.  Ryan Harrell entered the game in a 'save' situation in the 6th inning (Bulls up 2-1).  Ryan pitched 3 shutout innings to end the game. Ryan allowed 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and struck out 6.  Nice job Harrell bros!

Leading hitters for the Bulls:  Nathan Harrell (2-4), Devin Lumley (2-5 with 1 RBI), Craig Colbourne (1-3 with a double and 1 RBI), Isaac Campbell (1-3 with 3 RBI's) and Jay Dixon (1-4).

Game Note: Craig Colboune scored 4 of the 6 Bulls runs.  (2 under normal conditions and 2 as a pinch runner).

Sunday - September 28th  - at Patton High School

9:00am - Triad Bulls 17 , Dirtbags 17's Steel 7 (5 innings)

Headline: Isaac Campbell (2-2) and Jay Dixon (1-1) perfect from the plate!

Big hits for the Bulls today included a RBI double from Jay Dixon (scored Alec Widmer) in the 2nd inning ...  a 2-run double from Nathan Harrell in the 3rd inning to score Davis O'Brien and Isaac Campbell ... a RBI single by Isaac Campbell to score Josh Byrd in the 4th ... and another RBI single by Isaac Campbell to score Craig Colbourne in the 5th.

Bulls pitching:  Isaac Campbell threw 3 nice innings to start the game. Isaac allowed 1 run on 2 hits, walked 4 and struck out 4.  Jay Dixon turned in a couple of sharp innings to close the game.  Jay allowed 0 runs, 0 hits, walked 2 and struck out 1.

Leading hitters for the Bulls:  Isaac Campbell (2-2 with 2 RBI's), Jay Dixon (1-1 with a double and 2 RBI's), Chandler McIntyre (1-2 with 2 RBI's) and Nathan Harrell (1-3 with a double and 2 RBI's).


12:00 Noon - Triad Bulls 13, Heat Baseball 16's 3 (9 innings)

Headline: Devin Lumley cranks homer and Alec Widmer 3-4

The Bulls got off to a quick start in the 1st inning when Ryan Harrell hit a leadoff double and later scored on Jay Dixon's sac fly. Dixon then singled to score Nathan Harrell for a 2-0 lead.

The Bulls added a couple of runs in the 2nd inning when Ryan Harrell singled to score Davis O'Brien.   Nathan Harrell's sac fly then scored his bro.

In the top of the 5th inning, Devin Lumley got hold of one and sent it flying out of the park .. a solo blast over the left field fence.

With the Bulls holding a 5-2 lead heading into the 7th inning, the Bulls broke the game wide open with 5 runs to go up 10-2. Josh Byrd walked to score Nathan Harrell.  Isaac Campbell's ground ball to pitcher and subsequent error by the Heat allowed Craig Colbourne and Devin Lumley to score.  Josh Byrd scored on Chandler McIntyre's infield grounder.  Davis O'Brien singled to score Campbell.

In the 8th, Craig Colbourne's single scored Nathan Harrell and the Bulls went up 11-2.

The final 2 Bulls runs came in the top of the 9th when Nathan Harrell singled to score Chandler McIntyre and Alec Widmer's sac fly scored Davis O'Brien.

Bulls Pitching:  Alec Widmer, Josh Byrd and Chandler McIntyre handled the pitching duties.  All 3 threw well. Widmer logged 3 innings of shutout ball, allowing only 2 hits and struck out 3.  Josh Byrd threw 2 innings and allowed 0 earned runs, 1 hit, 1 walk and struck out 2.  Chandler McIntyre allowed 1 run on 3 hits, walked 2 and struck out 1.

Leading hitters for the Bulls:  Alec Widmer (3-4 with 1 RBI), Josh Byrd (2-4 with 1 RBI), Ryan Harrell (2-4 with a double and 1 RBI), Devin Lumley (2-3 with a HOME RUN and 2 RBI's), Davis O'Brien (1-2 with 1 RBI), Nathan Harrell (1-2 with 2 RBI's) and Craig Colbourne (2-5 with 1 RBI).

Game Note:  Everybody on the team had at least 1 RBI in this game.

We played in Durham and Cary the weekend of September 20-21, 2014 in an Impact Baseball tournament.

Saturday - September 20 - Northern High School, Durham, NC

Headline:  Welcome to the Bulls Josh Byrd!

12:50 pm: Carolina Rockies 17's Gray  9, Triad Bulls 4 (8 innings)

Josh Byrd made an immediate impact for the Bulls as a deep ball to right field on the first pitch of the game was caught by a retreating Byrd!  Josh then followed that nice defensive play by leading off the bottom of the 1st inning with a single to left center in his first Bulls at bat.

The game was scoreless through the first 3 innings.  The Rockies took advantage of some out-of-character Bulls miscues in the field to post 7 runs in the 4th inning.

The Bulls countered with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th. Jay Dixon singled to start the inning.  Jay later scored on a Rockies error and Ryan Harrell scored on a Rockies error too.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, the Bulls cut the Rockie lead to 7-4. Craig Colbourne and Alec Widmer scored on Chandler McIntyre's fielders choice to SS.

The Rockies added a couple of runs in the top 8th to complete the scoring.

6:30 pm:  SBA Canes 2016 King 12, Triad Bulls 5 (Game ended in top 8th due to time limit with bulls batting)

Headline: Craig Colbourne leads Bulls with 3-4 day at the plate!

The Bulls took a 1-0 lead in the top 1st when Chandler McIntyre led off the game with a hard shot single off the pitchers leg. Chandler later scored on Jay Dixon's double down the right field line.

The Canes scored 3 in the bottom of the 1st when #10 knocked one out of the park for a 3-run homer!

Trailing 6-1 in the 6th, the Bulls cut the lead to 6-2 Craig Colbourne and Ryan Harrell hit back to back singles and Colbourne scored on Devin Lumley's ground ball to shortstop.

The Canes broke the game open in the bottom 6th with a 6-run inning to go up 12-2.

In the top of the 8th with time limit nearing, the Bulls started a rally.  Craig Colboune singled. Ryan Harrell walked. Devin Lumley singled. Nathan Harrell singled to score Colbourne. Josu Byrd's fielders choice scored Ryan Harrell. Davis O'Brien walked. Chandler McIntyre singled to score Lumley.  With the score now 12-5 and the Bulls batting with bases loaded and only 1 out, the game ended due to time limit.

Leading hitters for the Bulls: Craig Colbourne (3-4), Chandler McIntyre (2-4 with 1 RBI), Devin Lumley (1-3 with 1 RBI), Ryan Harrell (1-3) and Nathan Harrell (1-4 with 1 RBI).  Note Davis O'Brien On Base Percentage 100% (4 walks).

Sunday - September 21 - USA Complex: Field 1, Cary, NC.

12:00 Noon: Dirtbags 17's Camo 7, Triad Bulls 4 (9 innings)

Headline: Devin Lumley and Nathan Harrell 2 hits each!

The Bulls took at 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Jay Dixon led off the inning with a double. Craig Colbourne followed that with a single to score Dixon. Nathan Harrell's single scored Colbourne.

The Bulls led 2-0 until the top of the 5th when the Dirtbags scored 3 to go up 3-2.

The Dirtbags increased their lead to 7-2 in the 6th inning.

In the bottom of the 9th, the Bulls scored 2.  Ryan Harrell scored on Jay Dixon's fielders choice and Dixon scored on a sac fly by Craig Colbourne.

Ryan Harrell and Nathan Harrell threw 3 nice innings each, neither allowing a run.
