8:30pm, Triad Bulls 6, FBI Fungo 16U’s 1 (FINAL, 7 innings)

Headline: Bryce Jarvis sharp with complete game 1 hitter!  4 Bulls log 2 hits each (Nathan Harrell, Alec Widmer, Jay Dixon and Ryan Harrell)

Playing at Duke University, the Bulls wasted no time getting on the scoreboard! Nathan Harrell doubled and later scored on Jay Dixon's 2-out single. Dixon then scored on a FBI infield error. Ryan Harrell knocked in Craig Colbourne with a single to put the Bulls up 3-0 after the top 1st.

The game stayed at 3-0 until the 5th inning. Jay Dixon's infield single scored Nathan Harrell for a 4-0 lead. Craig Colbourne followed that with a single to score Alec Widmer, who had doubled earlier. The Bulls final run of the game scored when Devin Lumley singled home Jay Dixon.

Bryce Jarvis threw a great game!  Jarvis threw all 7 innings, allowed only 1 hit, 1 run and walked 1. Jarvis also K'ed 9 FBI batters!  Nice job Bryce!!

Friday, August 1st

at Holly Springs High School
11:30am, Triad Bulls 4, Red Tails Baseball Club (NY) 0 (FINAL, 6 innings)

Headline:  Jay Dixon stays hot with perfection at the plate (3-3) and Alec Widmer throws complete game shutout!

The Bulls got the first run of the game in the top of the 1st inning when Jay Dixon singled to score Alec Widmer.

The Bulls added a second inning run when Isaac Campbell singled to score Ryan Harrell and a 2-0 lead.

Another Bulls run scored in the 3rd. Isac Campbell delivered his 2nd RBI single of the game, this time scoring  Widmer.

The final Bulls runs scored in the 4th. Davis O'Brien scored on Jay Dixon's infield single to 3B.

Alec Widmer turned in a strong performance for the Bulls. Alec allowed 0 runs, 5 hits, walked 1 and struck out 5 for the complete game!

Headline:  Isaac Campbell allows only 4 hits and K's 6.  Alec Widmer leads Bulls at plate with 2-3 day.

On a wet Saturday, the Bulls face L&M Baseball from Rhode Island in Sanford, NC.

After a scoreless first inning, the Bulls got on the board first. Isaac Campbell drew a bases loaded walk to score Craig Colbourne for the first run of the game. Chandler McIntyre's sac fly scored Ryan Harrell for a 2-0 lead.

In the 3rd inning, the Bulls got a couple of runs after critical L&M errors allowed Alec Widmer and Nathan Harrell to both score on Craig Colbourne's ball thru 2B.  Ryan Harrell singled home Colbourne for a Bulls 5-1 lead.

In the 4th and final inning, Chandler McIntyre scored on Bryce Jarvis's fielders choice to 2B. Davis O'Brien scored on Alec Widmer's single to right field.

Pitching:  Isaac Campbell did a great job throwing in wet conditions.  Isaac allowed 4 hits, 1 run, walked none and struck out 6 in four innings.

Bulls leading hitters:  Alec Widmer (2-3 with 1 RBI), Ryan Harrell (1-1 with 1 RBI), Chandler McIntyre (1-1 with 1 RBI), Nathan Harrell (1-2), Davis O'Brien (1-2) and Devin Lumley (1-2).

Game Notes:
* Nathan Harrell barely missed having a 345 ft homer to left field, but it was 'just' foul. Nathan followed that with a single to right field stayed fair and traveled about 310 ft.
* Bryce Jarvis got his bat stuck about 20 ft up in the backstop netting.  For details on how this happened, you'll have to speak to Bryce directly.

Headline: Bulls get off to slow start in Atlanta.

The hometown East Cobb Braves got on the board first with 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

They added a run in the 3rd inning for a 4-0 lead.

The Bulls could not take advantage of scoring opportunities and the Braves eventually closed things out with four bottom 5th runs and the 8-0 win.

Leading Hitters for the Bulls:  Jay Dixon (1-1), Alec Widmer (1-2), Craig Colbourne (1-2) and Isaac Campbell (1-3).

The Bulls will try to turn things around with 2 games on Saturday.

Triad Bulls 8, Florida Hardballers 16U Black 1 (FINAL, 6 innings)    

Headline:  Nathan Harrell shines at plate (2-2 with 2 doubles) and tosses a 2-hitter to lead Bulls to victory.

The Triad Bulls were able to turn things around after an opening game loss yesterday.  After a couple of scoreless innings, the Bulls erupted for 6 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take control of the game. 

Chandler McIntyre singled home Bryce Jarvis for the first run of the game.  Isaac Campbell's hit scored O'Brien and McIntyre. Nathan Harrell then doubled to score Campbell and a 4-0 lead. Two bases loaded walks completed the scoring in the inning, Lumley walked to score Dixon and Jarvis walked to score Colbourne.

In the 4th inning, Nathan Harrell's second double of the game scored O'Brien and Alec Widmers sac fly scored Nathan Harrell for a Bulls 8-0 lead.

The Bulls were one out away from ending the game in the 5th, but the Hardballers were able to get a run across to erase the Bulls 8-run lead and push the game to another inning.

Bulls Pitching:  Nathan Harrell threw a complete game for the Bulls. Nathan allowed only 2 hits, 1 run, walked 4 and struck out 9.  Great job Nathan!!!

Bulls Leading Hitters: Nathan Harrell (2-2 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's), Davis O'Brien (1-1 and 2 walks), Chandler McIntyre (1-2 with 1 RBI), Jay Dixon (1-2), and Isaac Campbell (1-3 with 2 RBI's).

Headline: Chandler McIntyre goes 3-3 and Jay Dixon gets big hit to drive in first 2 runs and Bulls coast with Javis on the hill.

The Bulls stayed hot in the second game of today's double header.

Jay Dixon deliverd the first blow with a 2-run double in the first inning to score Nathan Harrell and Isaac Campbell.  Alec Widmer slid under a tag at home plate to put the Bulls up 3-0. Devin Lumley drew a bases loaded walk to score Dixon. Chandler McIntyre's single scored Craig Colbourne for a 5-0 lead at the end of one.

The Bulls kept the runs coming with a 6-run 3rd inning. The Braves surrendered 3 bases loaded walks, one each to Jarvis, O'Brien and Campbell. Chandler McIntyre singled home Ryan Harrell and Alec Widmer singled home Davis O'Brien and the Bulls were up 11-0 at the end of the 3rd inning.

The Bulls final run of the game scored in the 4th when Isaac Campbell singled to score Ryan Harrell.

Bulls Pitching:  Bryce Jarvis had a good day on the mound, throwing 4 innings, allowing 3 runs, 7 hits, 4 walks and struck out 2. Ryan Harrell came in to close out the 5th and final inning.  Ryan allowed 0 hits, 0 runs, walked none and struck out 1.  Great game Bulls pitchers!!

Headline: Dallas HomeRuns propel Patriots to victory!

Dallas got off to a quick 2-run lead in the first inning when the pitcher (#20 Michael Neustifler) hit a 2-run shot that barely stayed fair inside the left field pole.

Neustifler kept the Bulls off balance all day and allowed only one hit, a double in the 4th inning to Alec Widmer.

In the 6th inning, Dallas loaded the bases and #23 Bryan Seamster hit one over the right field wall to put Dallas up by 9 and end the game early.

Leading hitters for the Bulls: Alec Widmer (1-1 with a double)

Bulls fall to 2-2 record for the tournament.

Triad Bulls 3, 643 DP Tigers 15U 2 (FINAL, 7 innings)

Headline:  Bulls rally for 2-runs in the bottom of the 7th to beat 643 DP 3-2.

643 DP started out hot and the first four batters all singled. The 4th single scored the first run of the game for 643 and then Bulls starter Ryan Harrell settled down and got the next 3 batters out.  (A sac fly brought home the 2nd run). At the end of the top 1st, 643 held a 2-0 lead.

643 held the 2-0 lead until the bottom of the 4th inning when Craig Colbourne brought home Nathan Harrell on a single to right field. End 4th, 643 DP 2, Bulls 1.

Ryan Harrell pitched a superb game and allowed no more runs after the 2 first inning runs scored.  For the game, Ryan allowed 2 runs, scattered 10 hits, walked none and struck out 1. Great game Ryan!!

The Bulls got a big defensive play in the top 6th when 643 had runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out and the next batter flied out to Davis O'Brien in left field who threw home to gun down the runner who had tagged at 3rd.  That kept the Bulls within striking distance with the score staying at 2-1, 643.

The game went to the bottom of the 7th with the Bulls trailing 2-1 and needing 1 run to tie, 2 runs to win.

With 1 out, Bryce Jarvis singled to deep shortstop and beat the throw to first. Chandler McIntyre followed that with a clutch single to left field. With Jarvis on 3rd and McIntyre on 2nd, Davis O'Brien's ground ball to 3B/SS scored Jarvis to tie the game.

Still 1 out, McIntyre on 2nd and O'Brien on first, Isaac Campbell at the plate.  Isaac hit a ground ball to 2B and 2B flipped to SS for Out 2. In the attempt to turn the double play, the SS threw low to the first baseman and the ball got away. Cambell safe at 1st and McIntyre rounded 3rd to score the game winning run!!!  Bulls win 3-2!

Leading hitters for the Bulls: Bryce Jarvis (1-1 and 2 walks), Craig Colbourne (2-3 with 1 RBI) and Chandler McIntyre (2-3).

Great win against a very good team for the Bulls and Bulls move to 3-2 for the tournament!

Triad Bulls Baseball 5, Indiana Mustangs 16U Blue 3 (FINAL, 6 innings)

Headline: Bulls score 2-runs in the top 6th to win 5-3

The Bulls scored the first run of the game in the top 1st when Alec Widmer's grounder hopped over the pitcher and allowed Isaac Campbell to score.

In the 2nd inning, Devin Lumley doubled to score Ryan Harrell for a Bulls 2-0 lead.

The Mustangs (#5) knocked one out of the park in the bottom 3rd to cut the Bulls lead to 2-1.

The Mustangs took the lead at 3-2 with a couple of 4th innings runs.

In the 5th inning, Davis O'Brien led off the inning with a walk. Alec Widmer came to the plate with 2-outs and O'Brien on 2nd.  Widmer smashed a double just short of the center field fence marked 380 to score O'Brien and tie the game at 3-3.

With the Mustangs threatening in the bottom 5th (runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out), Davis O'Brien caught a fly ball to left and threw to 2B for the double play to end the inning.

In the top of the 6th, the Bulls got baserunners after Craig Colbourne and Devin Lumley both singled. O'Brien drew a walk to load the bases with 2 outs.  Isaac Campbell then delivered the clutch single to CF to score Colbourne for a 4-3 Bulls lead. Chandler McIntyre then drew a bases loaded walk to score Bryce Jarvis for a 5-3 lead.

Mustangs batting in the bottom of the 6th with the time limit quickly approaching ... grounded out to Jarvis at 2B and Craig Colbourne caught 2 popups to end the game.

Bulls pitching:  Isaac Campbell threw a great game and did a great job down the stretch.  Campbell allowed only 1 earned run, 5 hits, walked 2 and struck out 4.  Great game Isaac!

Headline: 1st inning run by Bulldogs enough to propel 'dogs to win!

The Bullsdogs scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning with a double to right center and the rest of the game was all pitching and defense.

Bulls Pitching:  Davis O'Brien and Alec Widmer shared the pitching duties.  O'Brien allowed 4 hits in 4 innings, allowed 1 run, walked 2 and struck out 4.  Widmer came on in relief and pitched the 5th and 6th innings.  Widmer allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, walked none and struck out 1.

Bulls leading hitters: Ryan Harrell (2-3), Davis O'Brien (1-3), Craig Colbourne (1-3) and Alec Widmer (1-3).

Bulls finished the tournament with a 4-3 record in pool play and when compared to all 296 other teams, finished in 115th place out of 296.

PLAYOFFS

There were 37 pools of 8 teams each.  Only the 37 pool winners advanced to single elimination bracket play and all pool winners were seeded according to record and runs allowed (tiebreak scenarios).

The playoffs began on Wednesday night July 16th with 5 games at 7:00pm or 7:30pm. (#37 vs #28), (#33 vs #32), (#34 vs #31), (#36 vs #29), (#35 vs #30).

On Thursday, July 17th, The remaining 32 teams played it down to the final 4.
Note: Our pool winner: Dallas Patriots 16U Stout (TX) made it to the final 16 before being eliminated.

On Friday, July 18th, Final Four played it out for the championship!

The teams that made it to the Final Four:
* Scorpions (FL) - 7 D1 commits: 4 - Florida State, 1 S.C., 1 Duke, 1 U. Central Florida.
* Elite Roadrunners (GA) 6 D1 commits: 1 - Alabama, 1 - Mercer, 1 - Ga.Tech, 1 - UNC, 1 - Georgia, 1 - Tenn.

Headline:  Bryce Jarvis and Ryan Harrell combine on 2-hit shutout. Harrell brothers plus Jay Dixon combine for 10-14 and 12 RBI’s.

After a scoreless 1st inning, the Bulls caught fire and tallied a 10-run inning.  Inning highlights included:

* 2-run single by Isaac Campbell to score Ryan Harrell and Chandler McIntyre.
* Triple by Nathan Harrell to score Davis O’Brien and Isaac Campbell
* Triple by Craig Colbourne to score Paul Davenport.
* Triple by Bryce Jarvis to score Devin Lumley.

The Bulls had another big inning in the top 4th.  Inning highlights included:

* 2-run double by Nathan Harrell to score McIntyre and O’Brien
* 2-run triple by Ryan Harrell to score Campbell and Nathan Harrell.

In the final inning, Jay Dixon’s 2-run double scored O’Brien and Campbell for the final runs of the game.

Bulls Pitching:  Bryce Jarvis stayed hot on the mound and tossed 3 innings of 2-hit shutout ball.  Bryce struck out 6 and walked none. Nathan Harrell kept it going and threw the final 2 innings.  Nathan allowed 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks and struck out 5.  Great job Bulls pitchers!!

4:30pm - Triad Bulls 8, Crusaders Baseball 15's  2  (FINAL, 6 innings)

Headline:  Jay Dixon and Ryan Harrell 4-hit Crusaders. Bryce Jarvis leads Bulls at the plate going 3-4 with a double and 1 RBI. McIntyre 2-2.

The Crusaders jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and held that lead until the top of the 4th when Bryce Jarvis doubled to score Devin Lumley and cut the Crusader lead to 2-1.

The Bulls got 2 big runs in the top 5th on a Crusader error at SS.  Isaac Campbell and Chandler McIntyre scored on the error.

With the Bulls holding a slim 3-2 lead heading to the 5th inning, the Bulls got some breathing rooom and were able to put the game out of reach.  Chandler McIntyre singled to score Bryce Jarvis and a 4-2 lead. Isaac Campbell’s double scored McIntyre for a 5-2 lead. The Bulls got 2 more runs on a Crusader error (Campbell and O’Brien scored for a 7-2 lead). Jay Dixon’s single scored Ryan Harrell for the final run of the game and a 8-2 win for the Bulls.

Bulls Pitching:  Jay Dixon threw 3 solid innings and allowed only 2 hits, 2 runs, walked 2, struck out 2.  Nathan Harrell came on in relief and did a great job. Nathan allowed 0 runs, 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 2.  Nice job Bulls pitchers!!

Saturday - July 5th      

at Patton High School, Morganton, NC
11:30am - Knoxville Heat 16's,
4 Triad Bulls 2  (FINAL, 6 innings)

Headline:  Clock kills Bulls final rally as Heat hold on to win 4-2.

The Bulls got on the scoreboard first with a top 2nd run.  Craig Colbourne’s double scored Jay Dixon.

The Heat tied the game at 1-1 with a bottom 2nd run.

The Heat went up 2-1 with a bottom third run.

The Heat stayed hot and posted 2 more big runs in the bottom of the 4th for a 4-1 lead.

The Bulls cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the 6th when Ryan Harrell scored on Chandler McIntyre’s fielders choice to SS.

With time limit approaching quickly, the Bulls began a 7th inning rally. Paul Davenport singled to right field. Isaac Campbell drew a walk.  With only 1 out and Bulls runners on 1st and 2nd, the game was called due to time limit.  Final: Heat 4, Bulls 2.

Bulls hitting:  Bryce Jarvis (2-2), Jay Dixon (2-3 with a double), Craig Colbourne (1-2 with a double and 1 RBI), Paul Davenport (1-2) and Isaac Campbell (1-3).

11:30am - Triad Bulls 14, Diamond Elite 16's 0 (FINAL, 6 innings)

Headline:  Widmer and O’Brien combine on 3-hit shutout. Widmer and Lumley combine for 5-7 and 6 RBI’s.

The Bulls started the game with 4 first inning runs. Alec Widmer’s single scored Nathan Harrell for the first run of the game.  Devin Lumley’s 2-run single scored Ryan Harrell and Isaac Campbell.  The Bulls got another run when Diamond Elite’s pitcher balked.

In the 3rd inning, another 4-run Bulls inning. Nathan Harrell’s double scored Chandler McIntyre and Davis O’Brien. Alec Widmer’s single scored Nathan Harrell. Another Bulls run scored during a stolen base attempt at 2B.  End 3rd, Bulls 8, Diamond Elite 0.

The Bulls added a 4th inning run on Davis O’Brien’s infield ground ball that scored Devin Lumley.

In the 5th, 3 runs for the Bulls.  A sac fly by Craig Colbourne scored Nathan Harrell.  Devin Lumley’s 2-run single scored Alec Widmer and Isaac Campbell.

The final 2 runs scored in the top 6th inning.  Jay Dixon’s single scored Chandler McIntyre and Isaac Campbell scored on Craig Colbourne’s infield ground ball.

Bulls Pitching: Alec Widmer started the game and threw 4 scoreless innings.  Widmer allowed 1 hit, 1 walk, 0 runs and struck out 1.  Davis O’Brien came on to pitch the 5th and 6th innings.  O’Brien allowed 0 runs, 2 hits and 0 walks.

11:30am, Mid-Atlantic Pirates 16's - 6, Triad Bulls 5 (FINAL, in 7 innings)

Headline: Pirates rally for 3 in the bottom of the 7th to sink Bulls.

The Bulls took a 3-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning when Devin Lumley singled to score Jay Dixon.  Isaac Campbell’s single to left center scored Devin Lumley and Ryan Harrell.

The Bulls held the 3-0 lead until the bottom of the 5th when the Pirates scored 3 to tie the game at 3-3.

In the top of the 6th, the Bulls appeared to take control of the game back. Ryan Harrell’s single scored Alec Widmer for a Bulls 4-3 lead.  Isaac Campbell’s double scored Craig Colbourne for a Bulls 5-3 lead.

The Pirates entered the bottom of the 7th needing 2 runs to tie and 3 to win.  They got their 3 and sent the Bulls home. Pirates win 6-5.

Thursday - June 26th                    

at Louisburg College   
11:30am, Triad Bulls 13, RBI Redwings 16'  0 (FINAL ... 4 innings)

Headline:  Bryce Jarvis tosses complete game 2-hit shutout and Devin Lumley, 2-2 with 2 RBI’s.

After losing in the first round of pool play, the Bulls came into this game needing a win!

The Bulls got off to a good start with a couple of runs in the 1st inning. Nathan Harrell doubled in leadoff batter Isaac Campbell for the first run of the game.  Craig Colbourne singled to bring Nathan Harrell home.

The Bulls added four runs in the bottom 2nd to take a 7-0 lead.  Devin Lumley’s double scored Ryan Harrell. The next run scored on a wild pitch to Davis O’Brien with bases loaded (Devin Lumley trotted home). Alec Widmer’s 2-run single scored Chandler McIntyre and Bryce Jarvis.

In the 3rd inning, the Bulls kept the runs coming across.  Devin Lumley singled to score Ryan Harrell. Davis O’Brien drew a bases loaded walk to score Lumley. Isaac Campbell then tripled to score O’Brien, Jarvis and McIntyre).  Campbell scored on a wild pitch to Nathan Harrell and the final run of the game scored on Jay Dixon’s single which brought home Nathan Harrell.

Bulls Pitching:  Bryce Jarvis had a great day on the mound in his first appearance this season.  Bryce threw all 4 innings, allowed 0 runs, 1 walk, 2 hits and struck out 3.

Friday - June 27th                    

at Campbell University   
8:30am, Kernersville Bulldogs 16's- 5, Bulls 1 (FINAL - 7 innings)

Headline: Bulldogs 5-hit Bulls and avenge prior defeat.

The Bulldogs and Bulls met again after having last played on June 6th in Greensboro at Stoner White Stadium. In that game, the Bulls took an 11-2 victory.

In the rematch, the Bulldogs jumped out to the early 2-0 lead with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. 

The Bulldogs held the 2-0 lead until the top of the 4th inning when Devin Lumley’s sac fly scored pinch runner Davis O’Brien, running for catcher Jay Dixon who had doubled to lead off the inning.

The game stayed tight at 2-1 Bulldogs until the bottom of the 6th inning when the Bulldogs added 3 more runs to go up 5-1.

Bulldogs pitcher Brody Holloman (#15) pitched a nice game for the Bulldogs, keeping Bulls hitters off balance and allowing only 5 hits on the day.

Bulls leading hitters: Isaac Campbell (1-2), Davis O’Brien (1-2), Nathan Harrell, (1-2), Jay Dixon (1-3 with a double) and Bryce Jarvis (1-3).  

Tourney Note: The Bulldogs went on to finish pool play 4-0, win our pool and secured the #1 seed overall for bracket play on Sat/Sun.

1:30pm, Dirtbags 16's Steel 5, Triad Bulls 2 (FINAL - 7 innings)

Headline: Dirtbags score 3 runs late to pull away from Bulls.

The Dirtbags scored in the top of the 1st inning to take a quick 1-0 lead. The Dirtbags added another run in the top 2nd for a 2-0 lead.

The Bulls cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the 2nd when Alec Widmer scored during a rundown between 1B and 2B.

The Dirtbags got a big run in the top of the 5th to go up 3-1.

The Bulls hung tough and rallied to cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the 5th. Chandler McIntyre scored when Nathan Harrell was hit by a pitch with bases loaded.

That was as close as the Bulls could get as the Dirtbags added a run in the top 6th and another in the top 7th to complete the scoring.

Left handed pitcher, #30, Tanner Greene threw a nice complete game for the Dirtbags, allowing the Bulls only 4 hits on 129 pitches.

11:30am – Dirtbags 16U Gold - 4, Triad Bulls (16's) – 3 … Final - 7 innings.

Headline: Dirtbags rally for 2 in the bottom of the 7th to sink Bulls.


The Bulls and the Dirtbags both scored a first inning run. The Bulls scored on Alec Widmer’s sac fly to score Nathan Harrell.

In the 2nd inning, Davis O’Brien singled to score Jay Dixon and Bryce Jarvis and gave the Bulls a 3-1 lead.

The Bulls held on to the 2-run lead until the bottom of the 6th when the Dirtbags got a 2-out RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2.

After a scoreless top 7th for the Bulls, the Dirtbags need 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to win and they rallied for victory.

11:30am – Triad Bulls (16's) – 3, SBA Ducks (16’s) 2 … Final - 6 innings.

Headline: Jay Dixon drives home the go ahead run in bottom 6th and Chandler McIntyre keeps Ducks off balance as Bulls win 3-2.


The Bulls having lost their first game in the tournament, were facing a ‘must win’ situation in Game 2 of pool play. 

The Duck’s quacked first with a run in the top of the 2nd, but the Bulls responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd when Devin Lumley’s single scored Ryan Harrell to tie the game at 1-1.  Bryce Jarvis’s infield grounder brought home Craig Colbourne for a Bulls 2-1 lead.

The Bulls held their 2-1 lead until the top of the 6th when the Ducks were able to tie the game at 2-2 on back to back doubles.

In the bottom of the 6th, with time running out on the game clock, Jay Dixon’s single scored pinch runner Isaac Campbell (running for Alec Widmer, who had doubled earlier) and the Bulls took the 3-2 win.

Bulls Pitching: 
Chandler McIntyre had a great game on the mound, keeping the Ducks off balance all game. McIntyre threw 5 innings, allowed 1 earned run, 7 hits, walked 4 and struck out 2.  Chandler also picked off 3 Duck runners at 1B.
Alec Widmer came on in relief in the top 6th with the game tied at 2-2, a runner on 2nd and no outs. Widmer was able to get 3 outs on 4 pitches.  Widmer’s first pitch resulted in a sac bunt out at 1B.  3 pitches later, Bryce Jarvis made a great catch on a hard liner to 3B and then Bryce beat the Duck runner back to the bag for a huge double play.

Saturday - June 21st

at Bedding Field in Wilson
10:00am – Triad Bulls (16's) – 4, Purpose Driven (16’s) 1 … Final - 7 innings.

Headline: Alec Widmer’s double in the top of the 6th gives Bulls lead for good and Ryan Harrell hurls a 2-hit complete game!


The Bulls (1-1) were facing the undefeated Purpose Driven squad (2-0) and the Bulls were still in a must win situation to stay alive for possible Sunday games.

The first 4 innings were a pitchers dual, as Ryan Harrell and #9 for Purpose Driven had both delivered shutouts thru 4.

Purpose Driven was able to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 5th on back to back doubles with 2 outs.

The Bulls would rally in the top 6th when Alec Widmer delivered a 2-run smash to left field which scored Chandler McIntyre and Nathan Harrell. 

The Bulls held a 2-1 lead going into the top 7th. Davis O’Brien singled to score Bryce Jarvis and give the Bulls a cushion and a 3-1 lead. Chandler McIntyre followed that with a RBI single which scored Isaac Campbell and a Bulls 4-1 lead.

Ryan Harrell shut the door in the 7th with a groundout, flyout, flyout to end the game.

Bulls Pitching: Ryan Harrell had a great complete game on the mound.  Ryan threw 7 innings (only 74 pitches), allowed 1 earned run, 2 hits, walked 3 and struck out 2.  Great job Ryan and the Bulls defense behind you!!!

2:30pm – Triad Bulls (16's) – 8, Carolina Ravens (16’s) 0 … Final - 6 innings.

Headline: Craig Colbourne goes yard with a 3-run, 360 foot blast over the right center wall and Davis O’Brien throws a complete game shutout!


The Bulls (2-1 in pool play) were still needing a win to clinch a spot in Sunday’s games. 

The Bulls got an early 1st inning run on a Raven error.

In the 2nd inning, Bryce Jarvis’s infield ground ball scored Ryan Harrell for a 2-0 Bull lead.

In the 3rd inning, The Bulls scored another run when the right fielder could not come up with a deep fly ball.

In the 4th inning, the Bulls attempted to keep their streak of scoring 1 run per inning alive, and they did when Devin Lumley singled to score Craig Colbourne. 

The Bulls held a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 5th when Craig Colbourne came up to bat with Jay Dixon on 1st and Alec Widmer on 3rd.  Colbourne ripped a shot to right center and over the 360 mark for a 3-run HOME RUN and a Bulls 7-0 lead!!!

Needing 1 run in the bottom of the 6th to end the game early (up by 8 after 6), Devin Lumley scored on a wild pitch to Davis O’Brien to end the game.

Bulls Pitching: Davis O’Brien had a great complete game on the mound.  Davis threw 6 innings (only 74 pitches), allowed 0 runs, 4 hits, walked 1 and struck out 2.  Great job Davis!!!

Sunday - June 22nd - Playoffs

at Lenoir Community College - Final Four Matchup
1:30pm – Triad Bulls (16's) – 7, SBA Ducks (16’s) 2 … Final - 7 innings.

Headline: Alec Widmer keeps Ducks in check with complete game and Craig Colbourne stays hot going 2-3 with a triple 2 RBI’s!


The Bulls faced the Ducks for the 3rd time this summer, as the Ducks had defeated the Dirtbags 16U Camo team to advance to this Final 4 game.

The Bulls took the early lead with a bottom 1st inning run. Craig Colbourne singled to score Nathan Harrell and a 1-0 lead.

The Ducks would tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the 3rd.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Craig Colbourne hit a triple to score Alec Widmer and a 2-1 lead. Colbourne scored on a Ducks error (wide throw to 1B). End of 3:  Bulls 3, Ducks 1.

The Bulls added a 4th inning run when Nathan Harrell singled to score Isaac Campbell.

The Bulls added another run in the 5th inning when Chandler McIntyre scored on a Ducks infield error. End 5th: Bulls 5, Ducks 1.

In the 6th inning, the Ducks cut the lead to 5-2 but then the Bulls got 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th on a Ducks OF error.

Bulls Pitching: Alec Widmer threw a complete game and allowed only 5 hits, 1 earned run, walked 1 and struck out 2.  Great job Alec!!!!

Headline: Nathan Harrell and Alec Widmer deliver 3 hits each, but Dirtbags rally from 2-0 deficit to win 3-2.


The Bulls faced Dirtbags 16U Black (the elite squad for the Dirtbag’s organization) in the championship game.

The Bulls took a 2-0 lead with a run in the first that scored on a Dirtbag error and a run in the 3rd that scored on Jay Dixon’s ground ball out.

The Dirtbags tied the game in the bottom of the 4th with 2 runs.  At the end of 4 innings, Bulls 2, Dirtbags 2.

The Dirtbags scored the games final run in the bottom of the 5th when the runner on 3rd scored during a rundown between 1st and 2nd base.

Bulls Pitching: Nathan Harrell pitched a great game!  Nathan allowed only 4 Dirtbag hits and 0 earned runs.  Nathan walked 2 and struck out 4. Great game Nathan!!

The Bulls played in an Impact Tournament the weekend of June 6-8 in the Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point area.

6:00pm - Triad Bulls (16's) - 11, Kernersville Bulldogs (16's) - 2, Final - 6 innings.

Headline: Down 2-1 in the 3rd inning, Ryan Harrell doubles in the go-ahead run and Bulls roll to 11-2 victory!


The Bulls got off to a great start in this 30 team 16U tournament.  The Bulls started the tournament with the 16U Kernersville Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead with a couple of runs in the top of the 3rd inning. 

The Bulls responded and cut the lead to 2-1 when Isaac Campbell doubled to start the inning and pinch runner Nathan Harrell later scored on a Bulldog balk.  Ryan Harrell then pounded a double to right center to score Chandler McIntyre and Davis O’Brien and put the Bulls up 3-2. The final run in the 3rd inning scored on Craig Colbourne’s RBI single which scored Ryan Harrell.

The Bulls added a couple of runs in the 4th to take a 6-2 lead. Devin Lumley scored on a Davis O’Brien groundout to 1B. Nathan Harrell scored during a failed Bulldog stolen base pickoff attempt.

The Bulls stayed hot with a 5-run 5th inning to take a 11-2 lead.  Nathan Harrell and Davis O’Brien both drew bases loaded walks to score runners.  Isaac Campbell’s single scored Jay Dixon.  Nathan Harrell scored on a wild pitch to Chandler McIntyre. Alec Widmer singled home Isaac Campbell for the final run of the game.

Game Leading Hitters:  Devin Lumley (3-3, 2 runs scored), Isaac Campbell (2-2 with a double, 1 run scored and 1 RBI), Craig Colbourne (2-3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored) and Jay Dixon (2-3 with 1 run scored),

at High Point University

2:00pm - Triad Bulls (16's) - 11, Rock Solid (16's) - 4, Final - 6 innings.

Headline: Nathan Harrell: Rock solid at the plate …  3-4  and 4 RBI’s !!


The Bulls played at beautiful High Point University and took advantage of a shaky start by Rock Solid pitching and scored 5 runs in the top of the 1st inning.

The Bulls added a couple of runs in the 3rd inning when Davis O’Brien’s bloop single between SS and LF scored Nathan Harrell and Devin Lumley to take a 7-1 lead.

The Bulls scored 1 run in the 5th to go up 8-2. Nathan Harrell scored on a throw to 2B during a Bull stolen base attempt.

The Bulls added some insurance runs in the top of the 6th to take a 11-2 lead. Ryan Harrell singled home Bryce Jarvis.  Nathan Harrell singled to score Alec Widmer and pinch runner Chandler McIntyre.

Game Leading Hitters:  Nathan Harrell (3-4 with 4 RBI’s and 2 runs scored), Ryan Harrell (1-1 with 2 RBI’s), Davis O’Brien (1-2 with 2 RBI’s), Bryce Jarvis (1-3) and Alec Widmer (1-3).

Headline: Craig Colbourne leads Bulls going 2-3 from the plate with a double and 3 RBI’s !!  Chandler McIntyre logs complete game on the mound!


The Bulls looking to go to 3-0 for the tournament with a Dirtbag Camo 15U matchup on the horizon.

The Bulls got out to a quick 4-0 lead in the 1st inning. Alec Widmer singled to score Chandler McIntyre. Bryce Jarvis scored on Ryan Harrell’s ball hit to 2B and a Dirtbag error. Alec Widmer came home on a wild pitch to Devin Lumley and Lumley then singled to score Jay Dixon.

The Bulls went up 6-0 in the bottom of the 3rd when Craig Colbourne doubled to center field to score Bryce Jarvis and Ryan Harrell.

The Dirtbags rallied in the top 4th to cut the Bulls lead to 6-4.

The Bulls responded with a huge inning … scoring 8 runs in the bottom of the 4th to go up 14-4.  Big hits in the inning included Isaac Cambell’s triple to score Nathan Harrell, Ryan Harrell’s 2-run single which scored Davis O’Brien and Bryce Jarvis, Craig Colbourn’s RBI single to score Alec Widmer and  Jay Dixon’s triple to score Ryan Harrell and Craig Colbourne.

9:30am - Triad Bulls (16's) - 13, SBA Canes (16’s Price) - 2, Final - 5 innings.

Headline: Nathan Harrell and Isaac Campbell double trouble as Bulls complete pool play 4-0. Nathan Harrell logs complete game on the mound!


After a scoreless 1st inning, the Bulls bats came to life in the 2nd inning. Back to back doubles by Nathan Harrell and Isaac Campbell scored Craig Colboune twice (see game note below).  Chandler McIntyre’s single score Campbell and Ryan Harrell’s single scored Alec Widmer.  At the end of the 2nd inning, the Bulls held a 6-1 lead.

After a scoreless 3rd inning by both teams, the Bulls bats kicked in again for another 6 runs.  Back to back RBI singles by Devin Lumley and Nathan Harrell scored Ryan Harrell and Jay Dixon.  Isaac Campbell followed that up with his second double of the game and brought home Devin Lumley and Nathan Harrell.

Sunday, June 8th  - CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
7:00pm, SBA Ducks (16’s) 6, Triad Bulls 3  (FINAL, 7 innings)

At Wake Forest University

Headline: Nathan Harrell and Isaac Campbell lead Bulls rally to cut 4-0 Duck lead to 4-3, but Ducks hold on for championship game win.

The Bulls played the SBA Ducks in the championship game. The Ducks are a collection of the top prospects in the Showcase Baseball Academy (SBA) organization.  

The SBA Ducks entered the championship game with a 4-0 record and had only allowed 2 runs in 4 pool play games!

The Bulls faced two really good SBA pitchers.  The first pitcher (#17), a right-handed D1 prospect, was hitting the radar gun consistently at 83-85 mph and had great arm strength and a very good slider. #17 threw the first six innings and allowed only 4 Bull hits.

The Ducks closer, Jacob Williamson (#24), is a Duke commit from Hunt High School in Wilson NC. Williamson was also throwing between 83-85 mph and picked up the save with a strong 7th inning.

In the top of the 5th inning, with the Bulls trailing 4-0, Craig Colbourne delivered a 1 out double to left field. Jay Dixon followed that with a walk. With 2 outs and Colbourne on 2nd and Dixon on 1st, Nathan Harrell smashed a shot over the center fielders head to score Colbourne and Dixon. Isaac Campbell then doubled home Nathan Harrell to cut the lead to 4-3 and that was as close as the Bulls could get.  The Ducks responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th to take a 6-3 lead and complete the scoring.

Davis O’Brien came into the game in the 5th inning with no outs and runners on 1st and 2nd.  To add to the drama, O’Brien walked the first batter he faced to load the bases and put himself into a ‘pitchers worst nightmare’ situation … bases loaded and no outs.  O’Brien struck out the next batter for out 1.  The next batter flied out to Alec Widmer in right field for out 2 and the runner on 3B attempted to tag up and score but was gunned down by Widmer at the plate for the inning ending double play.

In the 6th inning, with a runner on 1B, Craig Colbourne turned an unassisted double play on a line drive out to 1B and Colbourne then tagged the runner for an inning ending double play.

O’Brien finished up the game with 2 innings pitched, 0 runs allowed, 1 hit, 1 walk and struck out 2. Great job Davis!

At Pfeiffer University

11:30am - Triad Bulls (16's) - 12, Mountain Expos (16's) - 2, Final - 6 innings.

Headline: Ryan Harrell starts the season on fire going 4-4 with a double and 4 RBI's!

The Bulls got off to a great start with a four run first inning. Chandler McIntyre drew a leadoff walk to start the game. Bryce Jarvis singled in his first at bat as a Bull. Alec Widmer singled to score McIntyre for a 1-0 lead. Craig Colbourne was hit-by-pitch. Devin Lumley’s sac fly scored Jarvis for a 2-0 lead. Ryan Harrell’s 2-run single scored Widmer and Colbourne for a 4-0 lead.

The Bulls added a run in the 2nd when Alec Widmer singled home Davis O’Brien.

In the 5th inning, Ryan Harrell singled to score Colbourne for a Bulls 6-2 lead.

The Bulls exploded for 6 runs in the 6th to put the game away.  Inning highlights included RBI singles from Colbourne, Dixon and Harrell.

Game Leading Hitters:  Ryan Harrell, 4-4 with a double and 4 RBI’s. Craig Colbourne, 2-3 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. Jay Dixon, 2-4 with 1 RBI and Alec Widmer, 2-4 with 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.  

Pitching: Alec Widmer threw 5 innings, allowed only 4 hits and 1 walk.  Alec struck out 8!  Jay Dixon pitched the final inning and allowed 0 runs, 0 hits, 1 walk and struck out 1.

2:00pm -  Triad Bulls (16's) - 11, Stealth (16's Furr) - 1, Final - 6 innings.

Headline: Ryan Harrell throws a complete game and Craig Colbourne perfect from the plate (2-2)!

The Bulls scored 1 run each each of the first 3 innings to take a 3-0 lead against the Stealth.  Devin Lumley drew a bases loaded walk in the 1st to score Alec Widmer. In the 2nd, Isaac Campbell doubled to score Nathan Harrell.  In the 3rd, Craig Colbourne singled to score Widmer.

The game stayed tight at 3-0 Bulls until the top of the 5th.  Three consecutive hits by Lumley, Dixon and Harrell (double) drove in 4 runs to give the Bulls a 7-0 lead.

In the top of the 6th, the Bulls added 4 more runs to take an 11-0 lead. Alec Widmer’s infield single scored Jarvis and McIntyre. Colbourne singled to score Widmer and the Bulls final run scored when Nathan Harrell drew a bases loaded walk to score his brother Ryan.

Game Leading Hitters: Craig Colbourne was 2-2 with 2 RBI’s and 1 run scored. Three Bulls went 2-3 for the game: Nathan Harrell (2 doubles, 1 run and 2 RBI’s), Devin Lumley (2 RBI’s and 1 run scored) and Alec Widmer (2 RBI’s and 4 runs scored).

Pitching:  Ryan Harrell did a great job on the mound and threw a complete game!  Ryan allowed 1 run, 8 hits, walked none and struck out 3. 

 


Sunday - May 25th, 2014

At Wingate University

9:00am - Triad Bulls (16's) 8, Diamond Wizards 2 - Final, 7 Innings

Headline: Chandler McIntyre leads Bulls attack from plate and mound!

The Bulls hot hitting continued into Sunday as the Bulls put 3 runs on the board in both the first and second innings.  Craig Colbourne’s infield grounder scored Chandler McIntyre for the first run of the game.  Devin Lumley singled to score Ryan Harrell and Alec Widmer.

In the second inning, Davis O’Brien singled home Nathan Harrell.  Chandler McIntyre singled to score Isaac Campbell and Bryce Jarvis’s sac fly scored Davis O’Brien.  At the end of 2 innings: Bulls 6, Diamond Wizards 0.

In the 4th inning, Bryce Jarvis singled to score Davis O’Brien and Widmer’s single scored Jarvis for a Bulls 8-0 lead.
The Wizards scored a couple of late inning runs to close the gap to 8-2 and the Bulls secure an 8-2 win.

Game Leading Hitters: Chandler McIntyre, 2-3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored, Davis O’Brien (1-2 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored), Alec Widmer (1-2 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored).

Pitching:  Chandler McIntyre started for the Bulls and turned in 5 great innings.  Chandler allowed 0 earned runs, 5 hits, walked none and struck out 3. Nathan Harrell came in to close out the final 2 inings.  Nathan allowed 1 run on 3 hits, walked none and struck out 3.

11:30am - Charlotte Megastars 3, Triad Bulls 2 - Final, 7 Innings

Headline: Controversial call ends Bulls comeback attempt!

In the final game of the day, the Bulls faced the Charlotte Megastars.  The Megastars jumped out to a 3-run lead with runs in the 3rd and 4th innings.

Heading to the bottom of the 7th, the Bulls needed 3 runs to tie.

Bryce Jarvis started the inning with a bunt single. Alec Widmer doubled to left center to score Jarvis and cut the lead to 3-1.  With 1 out, Craig Colbourne singled to score Widmer and cut the lead to 3-2. Devin Lumley singled to keep the Bulls hopes alive. The game ended when the Megastars turned a controversial double play to end the game.

Game Leading Hitters: Bryce Jarvis, 1-1 with 1 run scored.  Craig Colbourne, 2-3 with a double and 1 RBI. Alec Widmer (1-3 with a double, 1 RBI and 1 run scored) and Devin Lumley (1-3).

Bulls Pitching:  Isaac Campbell started the game and threw 4 innings. Isaac allowed 4 hits, 2 earned runs, walked 3 and struck out 8.  Davis O’Brien came on in relief and threw 3 solid innings to keep the Bulls in striking distance.  O’Brien allowed 0 runs, 3 hits, walked 1 and struck out 2.
