Winter/Indoor Season

This is information for the 2017-2018 Winter Session

Teams

U.S. Soccer has made some changes to encourage further youth development. These changes included the nationwide adoption of Small-Sided Games and a shift from school-year to calendar year for the age grouping of teams.  Read more at the U.S. Youth Soccer website.  With that said, the Williston Soccer Club is looking to field teams for boys and girls born during the years of 2007 to 20011.

General Information

The Williston Soccer Club (WSC) strives to provide all players with the opportunity to learn and develop skills with a focus on teamwork, sportsmanship, competition and fun. We do not require try outs but we do ask for each player’s commitment to a more competitive level of play. We gladly accept surrounding town players for our Indoor season.  The indoor season runs from November through April.  Practices are held in Williston and games are played at the Nordic Training or Far Post Training Facilities in Essex Junction.

Session Dates

Winter Soccer runs approximately 18 weeks from the first week of November 2017 through the week before April 2018 school break.

The ~18 weeks include these weeks (all noted by the Monday of that week): 11/6, 11/13, 11/27, 12/4, 12/11, 12/18, 1/8/18, 1/15, 1/22, 1/29, 2/5, 2/12, 3/5, 3/13, 3/19, 3/26, 4/2 and 4/9.

Due to space constraints, practices will be held in two locations for the winter session:

1) The Sports and Fitness Edge in Williston (November, December, January and February)

2) Allen Brook School Gym (March and April)

Training Sessions

Training sessions will focus on personal athletic skill development and will consist of drills and scrimmages.  Players are expected to be serious and to be committed and ready to play.  They should bring a water bottle, shin guards, a soccer ball and indoor/turf shoes to each practice.  The first indoor practices will start during the week of November 6, 2017.

Training sessions at the Williston Sports and Fitness Edge (115 Wellness Drive) during the months of November, December, January and February will take place on Mondays (and possibly also Wednesdays).

Birth year: 2007-2010 Girls & 2010 Boys:    Mondays 5:00pm-6:00pm

Birth year: 2007-2009 Boys:    Mondays 6:00pm-7:00pm

Training sessions at the Allen Brook School Gym (497 Talcott Road) during the months of March and April are as follows:

Games

Depending upon interest level, we may be able to enter some U10 and U12 teams in the Nordic or Far Post 5v5 leagues for games taking place at the Nordic/Far Post Training Facilities at the Champlain Valley Expo in Essex Junction, 105 Pearl Street (Rte 15).  Directions can be found at this link. There are 3 sessions for games during the season.  WSC players are encouraged but not required to play in games.  This would be an additional cost. The fees for the leagues range from $400 - $700 per session (there are 3 winter sessions), and would be divided equally among the players.

The game times may vary from week to week.

Wednesdays: Nordic League Games for U12 Girls (5v5) Tentative time 5pm-7pm

Thursdays: Nordic League Games for U10 Girls and U10 Boys (5 v 5) Tentative time 5pm-7pm

Fridays: Far Post League Games for U10 & U12 Boys and Girls (5v5) Tentative times 5pm-9pm

Saturdays: Nordic League Games for U12 Boys (5v5) Tentative times 4:30-7pm

Fees

Player fees will depend upon the number that register and if we need to hire VPS coaches.  The Winter soccer player fee typically ranges from $200-$300 and includes the indoor field rental, coaching fees (if applicable), a t-shirt and miscellaneous club expenses.  For players born in 2008 or earlier that are interested in playing games at Nordic, Far Post or Queen City (this is not required), there will be an additional player fee of approximately $60-$70 per session.  Please note that there are 3 sessions of games so the cost would be ~$180-$210 to play in all three sessions.  Please note that these fees are significantly less than those charged by other area soccer clubs.

If your child is not available to play this winter, please keep in mind that Spring soccer will have a separate registration in February.  We practice outdoors in spring so registration fees will be adjusted since we do not need to pay for practice space!  The Spring season is longer than the Fall season (~7-8 games) and includes the Kohl’s Cup and Essex United tournaments in June.
