Thanks to Blair and Rock

For those that don't know, Blair and Rock went on vacation to North Carolina late last week after defeating the Orioles. They made the 7 hour trip back to Cumberland for Game 1 of the Championship Series before heading back to North Carolina after Monday's game. That shows tremendous loyalty to the team and I want to thank them for that. It has been a pleasure having Blair's entire family around the last 3 years. They will be missed.

Fairwell to all the 12 year olds

I want to thank the 12 year olds for their time with the team

Blair and Jason- a wonderful 3 years in which we made 2 trips to the Finals. I couldn't ask for 2 better kids with the best attitudes you could possible ever ask for. Blair was one of the best players in the league in his 2 final seasons and will go down as one of the best players I ever coached. Jason is one of my favorite players I have ever coached. He came in when he was 10 and didn't play very much but worked harder than anyone on the team and turned himself into an All-Star at age 12. I look at Jason as possibly the most important player on this years team. He stepped up and went behind the plate to catch and did a tremendous job. On probably 6 of the other teams in the league Jason would have pitched about 20 innings or so this season but because of the Little League 12 year old pitching rule and being stuck behind Garry and Blair he didn't pitch for us but sucked it up and never complained.

Garry- without a doubt the best pitching season I have ever had in my 10 years coaching. Garry's numbers were video game like. I will never have another pitcher dominate the way he did this season. The biggest reason for his turnaround was his turnaround in attitude. It is amazing how a change in attitude can help a kid so much. I hope the younger kids can learn that from Garry. It has been a pleasure coaching Garry this season and seeing his maturation as a player and a person.

Raquan- the most improved player from day 1 until now. Raquan always gives 100% and does everything the coaching staff ask of him. If every kid on our team gave the effort Raquan gives we would never lose a game.

Cardinals drop game 1 of Championship Series

The Cardinals lost game 1 to the Pirates 9-5. The team was hurt by sloppy defense the entire game but battled back to tie the score at 5 after trailing 5-1. Leading hitters for the Cardinals were Blair Brittain with a triple and a single, Brandon Densock with a double and 2 RBI's, Ty Mance and Jason Rakaczewski with a double each. Garry Legeer also had an RBI single. Tyler Smallwood hit a gap shot to right center but the Pirate rightfielder made a diving catch to rob Tyler of at least a triple. The Red Birds will have to play with 2 minor league kids in Game 2. Game 2 is slated for 7:30 Tuesday with arrival time at 6:20.

a special thanks to all the parents

I want to thank ALL the parents this season for a wonderful year. This was one of the best sets of parents I have ever had and it is greatly appreciated. I also want to give special thanks to all the parents of the 12 year olds that we lose after the season. I have never had one problem with any of the parents of the 12 year olds the entire time they were with the Cardinals. So thank you to Teresa Taylor for 4 wonderful years with Kammari, Jarel and Jori. Thanks to Sharon and the rest of Rak's family for being so supportive over the last 3 years. Thanks to all of Blair's family for being so great over their 3 years on the team. Thanks to Garry's family and I look forward to having you guys back next year with Bryce. Thanks to Boo and Raheem for always being at the games and supporting Raquan and the rest of the team. I couldn't ask for a better group of parents. Also thanks to Diane and Tracy for all the help with everything this season. I look forward to having you guys back the next 2 seasons.

a huge Thank You

I want to thank everyone for their support over the last week with the death of my mother. All of the flowers and phone calls I received were wonderful. I will never forget all of you showing up at the funeral home. I thank all of the parents that were at the funeral home, Teresa (Jori's mom), Sharon (Rak's mom), Diane (Tyler's mom) and Tracy (Ty's mom). I also want to thank A.T., Rock and Garry for taking over and doing a great job in my absence. Also thanks to Marty Watts of the Phillies and Brad Reed of the Tigers for their support of our team last Friday vs the Reds. Marty has also allowed us to use his equipment in the 3 games I have missed.
