Thanks to all the parents

I want to thank all of the parents for being so cooperative and understanding this season. I was once again blessed with a great group of parents and grandparents. Words can't describe how fortunate I feel to have it so good in the parent department. I want to once again Thank all of you. You make my job so much easier with your support. I will miss the parents of all the 12 year old's and look forward to next season with the parents of the 10's and 11's.

Cardinals end season with 7-4 loss to the O's

The Cardinals finished up the 2009 season with a 4-10 record but fought until the last out of the season. Darian Roddy and Tyrell Parker held the Orioles to 6 hits while giving up 5 earned runs. Leading hitters for the Red Birds were Dekari Darr with a triple and Ty Mance, Tyler Smallwood, Tyrell Parker and Bryce Legeer with singles. Kelian Baker continued to put the ball in play at the plate, Kelian went an entire month without striking out. He hasn't struck out since the first Athletics game on June 3rd.

Orioles game is rained out

we will make the game up on Friday. Batting practice will begin at 6:30 and first pitch will be at 7:30

A's no-hit the Cardinals

The Cardinals played their worst game of the year in the field and were shut down by Athletic pitching. The team has to cut down on errors and lack of concentration in the field. There were too many times players didn't cover their base, back up a throw, hit a cutoff man etc. Those are all things that make you lose baseball games. Hopefully we end the season on Wednesday playing good baseball against the Orioles.

Dodgers 10 run rule the Cardinals

The Dodgers came out with revenge on their minds and put it to the Cardinals 14-4. The story of the night was walks by the Red Bird pitchers. The pitching staff combined for 14 walks and the Cardinals played poorly in the field. Offensively Tyler Smallwood and a double and a single, Bryce Legeer had 2 singles, and Darian Roddy and Tyrell Parker added singles. The bright spot for the Cardinals was only striking out twice the entire game. The Cardinals play again on Monday at 7:30 against the Athletics.

Cardinals lose to the Tigers 12-1

The Red Birds were chewed up and spit out by the 1st place Tigers on Monday evening, 12-1. Leading hitters for the Cardinals were Darian Roddy, Tyler Smallwood and Bryce Legeer all with a single each. The team looks to rebound on Wednesday night against the Dodgers, game time is 7:30.

Cardinal All-Stars shine in Mid-Summer Classic

The 4 Cardinal All-Stars did a tremendous job in the All-Star game Sunday night. They led the way in the Dan Division's 14-5 win over the Dapper Division. Tyrell Parker had a double and single and scored 2 runs, Ty Mance had a triple and single while scoring 2 runs, Tyler Smallwood had a double and scored a run, Bryce Legeer put the ball in play both times and showed great hustle beating out a tailor made double play and scored a run. Combined the 4 players were 5-8 with 6 runs scored with no strikeouts. I am very proud of their performance on Sunday Night. Way to represent the Cardinals.

New Section Added

Malique Stewart update

At last check when I left the hospital at 11:30 Malique's ankle was still in the same position that it was in when he was carted off the field and he was very groggy from the medicine he received. He has a broken right ankle and has damage to his growth plate. Needless to say he is done for the season and won't be able to play football this season either. He is being kept over night and is supposed to be sedated in the operating room sometime tonight so they can set his ankle. If the ankle doesn't heal correctly surgery could be needed. I will keep updating here on the site as I receive news on his condition.

To show how much of a team player he is when I arrived at the hospital and put a game ball in his hand the first thing he asked was did we win. It has been a pleasure coaching Malique in baseball and football over the last few seasons.

update- Malique's ankle was successfully set and put in a cast

update- Malique came home today at around noon. He has a cast on his entire right leg and will have to wear it for 4-6 weeks. Then he will get a shorter cast that he will have to wear for another 4 weeks.

Darian Roddy pitches the Red Birds past the Phillies, 7-1

Darian Roddy, making his major division pitching debut, went the distance giving up only 2 singles while striking out 4. The team played brilliantly in the field while Darian kept throwing strikes. Leading hitters for the Cardinals were Tyrell Parker with a double and a single while Ty Mance, Bryce Legeer, Dekari Darr and Malique Stewart added singles. The coaching staff is very excited with the way the team played this week with Ty and Darian leading the way on the mound. The Cardinals next play on Monday against the Dodgers.

Cardinals lose heartbreaker to the Reds 9-8

The Red Birds played a great game but couldn't overcome the playoff bound Reds. The story of the game was the tremendous pitching effort of Ty Mance is his first regular season appearance. Ty pitched 5+ innings giving up only 6 runs and 5 hits. Ty also had a double and single at the plate. Others having hits were Tyrell Parker with a triple and a double, Tyler Smallwood with 2 singles and Bryce Legeer and Dekari Darr with singles. The team played great defense in the field with a bunch of putouts. The Cardinals look to rebound against the Phillies on Friday Night.

4 Cardinals named to All-Star Team

Ty Mance, Tyler Smallwood, Tyrell Parker and Bryce Legeer were named to the 2009 Dan Division All-Star team. The game takes place on Sunday evening at 7pm at the Constitution Park. The Cardinal All-Stars will join the All-Stars of the Pirates, Tigers and Athletics to face the All-Stars of the Dodgers, Orioles, Reds and Phillies.

Cardinals drop another one to the Pirates

The Cardinals lost their second game of the season vs the 2-time defending champion Pirates. The final score was 7-2. Tyler Smallwood and Tyrell Parker combined to only give up 5 hits but were plagued by 9 walks. Defensively the team played very well in the field and was highlighted by a Hayden Yates catch in right field and a Yates to Smallwood to Darr putout at the plate on a good cutoff throw by Hayden, a terrific throw to the plate by Tyler and a great catch and tag by Dekari on the runner. Ty Mance and Darian Roddy also excelled in the field. Offensively the team struggled to get runs with the short backstop at Al Abrams. The Red Birds only accounted for 4 hits, a double by Tyler Smallwood, singles by Darian Roddy and Bryce Legeer and a 2 out, 2 RBI double in the 6th inning by Rashaan Haines which accounted for the only runs the Cardinals scored against the Pirates this season. The Cardinals fall to 3-5 and return to action on Monday against the Reds.

Cardinals win second straight to finish first half 3-4

The Cardinals continued their good play on Wednesday night with a 12-8 victory over the Athletics. The team continued to make strides in the field with only one bad inning. Winning pitcher for the Red Birds was Tyler Smallwood who kept his hot streak on the mound intact. Tyler pitched in relief and threw 4 innings allowing only 1 run and 1 hit while striking out 7. The starting pitcher was Tyrell Parker who also continued to pitch at a very high level. Tyrell also led the way at the plate with 3 hits including a double. Also adding hits were Malique Stewart with a triple, Darian Roddy with a double, Ty Mance, Tyler Smallwood and Dekari Darr added singles. Chad O'Neal and Kelian Baker added RBI's. Also adding hits for the Red Birds were Sean Kifer, Malique Stewart and Hayden Yates. Defensively the team played great and cut down on all the mental mistakes and lack of concentration that was worked on at practice on Sunday. The coaching staff couldn't be happier with the progress made in the field. On the mound Tyrell Parker got the win pitching 4 innings striking out 7 and only allowing 2 runs. Tyler Smallwood got the start on the mound and continued his pitching improvement with a good 1st inning. The Cardinals look to continue their good play on Wednesday against a hot Athletics team that beat the Pirates 11-0 on Monday evening.

Cardinals fall to 1-4 with 13-3 loss to the Tigers

The Cardinals had their best hit output of the season but couldn't knock more runs in and played a sloppy defense to fall to the Tigers 13-3. Tyler Smallwood pitched his best game in a Cardinal uniform even if the scoreboard didn't look too pretty. Tyler had great composure and only walked 4 hitters. Defensively the team struggled with lack of concentration and poor execution which isn't a good mix. Offensively, the Red Birds were led by Smallwood with a double and single, Bryce Legeer and Malique Stewart with 2 singles each and Tyrell Parker, Chad O'Neal and Sean Kifer adding singles. The team only struck out 4 times which is a big improvement of the last week or so. That is one thing the team can look to build on. Keep putting the ball in play and good things will happen. Now the team needs to tighten up in the field. The Cardinals look to rebound Monday against the 3-1 Dodgers.

Cardinals defeat Phillies for 1st win of the season

Cardinals take one on the chin

The Orioles got a little revenge for last year's playoff series loss beating the Cardinals 11-1 in a game stopped by the 10 run rule. The Red Birds scored their 1st run of the season after a Tyrell Parker triple and passed ball. Also adding hits for the Cardinals were Ty Mance with a double and a single and Dekari Darr with a double. The team is making some strides and is making some changes in the field. Everyone just needs to keep their heads up and continue working. Everyone knows this is a rebuilding season this year.

Cardinals held scoreless again, lose 5-0

The Cardinals start off the season with cold bats. The team did put the ball in play a lot tonight but the Reds fielded the ball very well. Tyrell Parker started the game on the mound and pitched 3 innings and gave up 2 earned runs. Tyler Smallwood then came in the game in relief and gave up 2 runs while striking out 6. Ty Mance led the charge on defense by turning a double play in his first appearance at shortstop. The coaching staff would like to commend Ty for stepping up and making a play when one was needed. The team needs more plays made in the field. Offensively, the Red Birds were held to 3 hits, a double by Kelian Baker and singles by Tyrell Parker and Tyler Smallwood. The team will now face the undefeated Orioles on Friday.

Red birds drop the season opener

The Red Birds opened the season trying to avenge last year's Championship Series loss but came out on the wrong end, 5-0. Tyrell Parker pitched a complete game allowing only 4 hits while striking out 7. The Cardinals couldn't get the bats going in clutch situations. Bryce Legeer led the team with a triple and single while Ty Mance added an infield single. Defensively Ty Mance and Sean Kifer caught flyballs and Darian Roddy led the infield with 3 assists. The Red Birds look to rebound on Tuesday in the home opener vs the Reds.

Practice

Wednesday we will practice at 6pm at The Park and then on Friday we will scrimmage the Phillies at 6pm at The Park. On both days it is very possible the Fort Hill softball team will be playing a playoff game when we arrive. We get the field when they are done.

For those that didn't show up on Monday you will receive your uniforms on Wednesday. DO NOT wear your uniforms until Saturday.

The season begins on Saturday against the Pirates, arrival time is 5:30pm.

rain, rain go away

Hopefully today's practice will be the last practice we have to cancel before the season begins next Saturday. Since we have missed so many practices everyone should be getting out on days that you can and hit, throw or do something baseball related.

Our next practice will be on Monday at 6pm at Al Abrams. We will not have practice on Sunday because of Mother's Day

Rules Reminder

Just a reminder for everyone to read and remember the team rules that I gave out at practice. If you lost the paper you can read the rules on the left.

We have had way too many missed practices with no phone calls and calls not being made to my cell phone on days it rains. It is very important to call when you miss practice and also important to call my cell phone when we have bad weather to get information on the next practice.

Welcome to the 2009 Season

Welcome back to the returning players and welcome to the team to all the new players. I look forward to a fun 2009 season.
