The Contest from Soup to Nuts

Camden, NJ -- The Wayne Wolverines defeated Methacton J.P. Mascaro 7-2 on Wednesday in a game played at Campbell's Field, home of the Camden Riversharks.

Nick Wojotelwicz led off the second inning with a single as the Wolverines scored twice to take a 2-0 lead.  Evan Zhang's single in the fourth led to a big five run inning that was culminated by a bases loaded 2 RBI single to left center off the bat of Will Girton.

On the mound, Will Hoysgaard earned the win by twirling two shutout innings in the non-league contest.  Andrew Austen closed out the game in fashion by striking out the side in the ninth.

The opportunity to play on the professional field was sponsored by local Wayne mobile marketing agency -- ATS Mobile.

The Wayne Wolverines Junior Legion team has a 9-5-1 record in the Main Line League and is currently in third place in the ten team conference.  The Wolverines close out its season with a home game on Friday night versus Roxborough Bandits then play Saturday at the Mt. Airy Stars and Sunday at the Haverford Heat.  Playoffs begin Wednesday, July 10 as the Wolverines hope to earn its third league championship in the past four seasons.

Playoff game round 3 vs Narberth that was rained out on July 12 has been rescheduled for July 13 at 10 am at RHS Varsity.

The game vs Methacton JP Mascaro that was rained out on June 30 at Campbell's Field will be rescheduled for 12 noon at Campbell's Field on Wednesday, July 3.

The home game vs Roxborough that was rained out on July 1 has been rescheduled for Friday, July 5, at 6 pm at RHS Varsity.

The home game vs Del Val that was rained out on June 28 has been rescheduled for Wednesday, July 3, at 6 pm at RHS Creek.

Homer City, PA -- Two opponents of the Wayne Wolverines squared off in the championship round of the Pennsylvania Youth Legion Baseball Championship with Newtown (39-3) beating Upper Perk for the title 5-1.

Wayne was defeated by Newtown 5-3 and by Upper Perk 5-0 this season.

Results from the Winter Meetings of the Main Line Youth Legion League.

• The proposal submitted by Wayne, and endorsed by the directors of the Main Line League, to increase the number of 15-year-olds permitted on the team from its present level of 12 was rejected at the state level.
• The DH will be permitted as a test in the 2013 regular season only and it will follow the same rules as the PIAA.
• Umpire fees are increased to $60 per umpire per game.
• 2 players from each team will be chosen for the all-star game.  Wayne's Bob Bentz was selected as manager of the Main Line League team.
• Mt. Airy was unanimously accepted as the tenth member of the league.
• The league will have 2, and a possibility of a third, entry into the Regional tournament.
• In-house all-star game details to be determined.  Players playing in the all-star game vs. the Montco League are not eligible.
• Playoffs will now have two single elimination play-in games between teams ranked 7 through 10 during the regular season.
• Regular season schedules will be ready on April 1.
• Wood bats only and bats made of bamboo, red maple, silver maple, or two-piece bats are not permitted.
• Regional tournament sites are South Scranton, West Lawn, Northampton, Pottstown, and Homer City.
• State tournament is at Homer City.

For the 2013 season, all American Legion leagues will be switching to wood bats.  The following rules will apply to all wood bats used in the league.

"ONLY wood bats may be used: White Ash, Hickory, Sugar (Hard) Maple, Yellow Birch, and Red Oak.

The following species of wood and types of bats are NOT permitted:
Bamboo, Red Maple, Silver Maple, two-piece bats utilizing wood head on a composite or plastic handle, and bats made of sawn and re-glued wood or laminated pieces of wood."

​​Wayne Junior Legion Announces Winter Workouts

Wayne Junior Legion will be hosting winter workouts for New 15-year-olds and New 14-year-olds this winter.  Workouts will be conducted by Wayne Junior Legion coaches.  Wayne Senior Legion manager Bryan Bendowski will be handling pitching clinics each night.  There will also be guest coaches such as ex-Radnor High School star and Seattle Mariners' player Tim Morris.

• Workouts begin Sunday, January 13, 2013
• Final workout is Sunday, March 17, 2013
• No workout on Sunday, February 3 due to Super Bowl.
• Shipley School Gym
• 14-year olds will workout 5:30 - 7:00 and 15-year-olds will workout 7:00 - 8:30
• Cost = $100 per player for Shipley facility rental.
