SAINTS SPLIT AT REGIONS, KEEP THE KEG

REGAL--Elrosa split their weekend games at Regions this weekend with a 6-4 loss to Starbuck and a 16-6 victory over Spring Hill. The Saints will now play Farming on Saturday at 3:30 in Regal with the winner advancing to the State tournament. Saturday vs. Starbuck, Elrosa scored 2 runs in the top of the first to take an early lead and starting pitcher Payton VanBeck kept the Stars in check through 7 solid innings. In the 8th inning and Elrosa leading 3-1, the Saints committed two costly errors and Starbuck broke through with 3 runs to take a 4-3 lead. Gavin Kampsen drilled an RBI single in the bottom of the 9th to score Derek Wiener and send the game to to extra innings where Starbuck plated 2 in their half and then held off the Saints comeback for the win. Elrosa outhit the Stars 13-6 but stranded 15 runners in the contest. Sunday vs. Spring Hill, the Saints trailed 4-0 before they could blink but answered with 4 runs of their own in their half of the 1st inning to tie the game at 4. From there Elrosa didn't stop hitting and scoring as they ten-runned the Chargers. Luke Dingmann hit a 2 run bomb and Luke Illies and Peyton Winter each had 4 hits to pace the offense. The boys in blue spanked 18 hits and took advantage of 6 Spring Hill errors. On the mound, Riley Meyer earned the win in relief of starter Aiden Mueller while Wyatt S. also threw 4 solid innings.
