FALL SEASON 2020

August 6, 2020

The ESSL Board meet last night and each of the Districts are finding it harder and harder to proceed with a season as normal with all of the information that continues coming from the State of Ohio. The biggest thing is that we don't want to increase the spread between communities, especially with a few of our Counties all in the Top 10 of Cases as reported by Gov. DeWine. Our decision moving forward is that we will not have League Play this Fall. Each District is welcome to have District wide soccer. There are some examples on SAY's website on what some alternatives to League Play could be:

If your District does decide to continue forward with some sort of activities, it is advised to still register with SAY for insurance purposes. The ESSL will not be collecting per player fees this Fall as we are not doing League Play.

One of the scenarios that arose last night was "What if the State of Ohio lifts their current ban on competition?" If that happens, then cross district scrimmages may be allowed as long as both districts adhere to the appropriate criteria for safe play such as taking kids temperature and keeping contact records of attendance, etc.

Another question arose of "What if a child from another District wants to play in ours?" The general idea is that we try to limit cross community spread. We would recommend that the child from another District would be redirected back to his/her home District. If that is not feasible, then it is up to that Board to determine the risks they would tolerate.

Lastly, the scenario of "What if my local school shuts down and does all virtual?" Our recommendation is that each District follows their schools lead when it comes to sports and contact. If it isn't safe for kids to be in the same classroom together, it probably isn't safe for kids to be on the field together. Each District's Board has the final say in that.

We will be meeting again on September 9th at 6:30pm to review what each district is doing and to support each other. If you have any questions before then, please feel free to reach out. 419-450-7716.

Thank you all. Stay safe and stay healthy,

Rob Solomon

ESSL President
