(from Eastcountysports.com)
MIRA MESA 10, CHRISTIAN 0 (5 inn.) – QUIRISA MAUGA belted a 3-run double to back a 4-hit shutout by LANI VANTA, pacing the Marauders past the visiting Patriots in Tuesday's (Apr. 10) Eastern League opener.
Mira Mesa, ranked fourth in both major county newspaper polls, received a single and a pair of walks before all three runners came home on a drive to the gap by Mauga, a sophomore and younger sister of Marauders home run leadoff hitter KATIYANA MAUGA.
Meanwhile, TANI LEASAU batted 3-for-3 against Christian pitching, with each hit driving home a run for Mira Mesa (15-5-1 overall, 1-0 Eastern).
"All three of them, along with Lani, can just hit the ball and hit it hard," Mira Mesa veteran coach BRAD GRIFFITH said.
For Christian, ALYSSA HARRIS was perfect at the plate, registering a basehit and a sacrifice bunt. Freshman KAYLA KRUELL and junior ANAYA TOBIASON also registered basehits for Christian, which despite a 2-11 overall record, remains the 4th-best team among CIF Division V schools in the U-T San Diego divisional rankings.
