MIRA MESA POWERS WAY TO VICTORY

MIRA MESA 12, SERRA 3 – Designated player AMBER CORDERO and left fielder MERCEDES HUMPHREY each slugged home runs Thursday (May 3), moving the Marauders within a game of their first Eastern League title since 2007 after downing the host Conquistadors.
Cordero, who batted 3-for-4, led off the 2nd inning with her homer, starting Mira Mesa's recovery from an early 2-0 deficit on a pair of unearned runs. Mira Mesa went on to take a 3-2 lead in the 2nd, starting a stretch of runs over five consecutive frames.
The team's biggest outburst came in the 5th with four runs, capped by Humphrey's 3-run bomb in her 2-for-5 outing.
ALICIA GARCIA pitched the first five innings for Mira Mesa (21-5-1 overall, 7-0 league).
For Serra (12-9, 4-3), Makayla Martin hit a solo home run with two outs in the 6th.
Mira Mesa can clinch the Eastern crown when they entertain second-place Patrick Henry this Tuesday at 3 p.m.
