Northern Prospects PS101 Jr Hockey Summer League Champs

Georgina Ice

The Inaugural first season of the NPPS101 Jr League came to a conclusion with the Georgina Ice winning in a great third period comeback down 3-1to win 4-3 in overtime!!! Georgina has been the number 1 team all season finishing in first place during the regular season and they completed the sweep by taking home the championship in the playoffs. Great goaltending great playing with a never say die attituded completed the season.

I would like to thank the Georgina Ice on a great year their players coaches and staff they came to the rink each week showing what Jr Hockey is all about. I also want to thank the Midland Flyers organization for also fielding a team and the 4 other teams of individual entries of players of former current and aspiring jr players who came to the rink to compete each week and kept the league a safe place to get a competitive skate each week in the off season.

I also want to thank my coaches Mike Camilleri from the Haliburton Huskies it was nice having a OJHL representative showing the men what they needed to do each week while filing in the memory bank some names for the future. My Assistant Coach in Schomberg Cerone Natale who not only made sure his team was competitive by filling roster spots with quality players when some couldnt make it but also being there for me to help in every way needed. To Andrew Parsons who has been a long time PS101 client he made the trip each week from Wasaga Beach to make sure his team had leadership at the helm.  Thank you all hope you all will be back next year. I also want to thank the timekeepers  and refs for showing up each week and getting it done.

Last but not least the players and parents thank you for making this year such as success. Without your support this does not happen and the league did its job with many coaches coming to watch and giving opportunities to players to move up which many signed cards and are still trying out.

Next year we will look to improve and love feedback both good and bad, I will expand to a flood format between periods and welcome any new teams interested, This is the only league catering to Jr players in the South Simcoe and region so if you have a jr aged team or a team of current players or a league team get hold of me there is only 6 spots to fill for next year

BARRIE MINOR BANTAM AAA

OMHA CHAMPIONS!!!!!!

Hockey is the greatest game on earth. The excitment, the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, the commitment and sacrifice a team - players, coaches, parents - must make leave rewarding life long memories and lessons in life. For a group of 18 players who started on this journey last May it culminated in such a sweet victory claiming title to OMHA Minor Bantam Championship with a dramatic come back 2 1 victory in the last 3 minutes of the championship game versus Whitby Wildcats!!! This experience is something only a select few have the opportunity to have. It was very emotional for many and for me personally it was as rewarding as any I have had in hockey.

This team completed the process of commitment and sacrifice as they battled all year through injuries, suspensions, sickness. This team competed and came full circle when it was needed, they followed a game plan, they executed the systems they were taught, they reached down deep when many would have given up. This team went 10 wins 2 losses through the playoffs and OMHA Championships allowing just 8 goals against  in those 12 games and only 3 in the OMHA Championship series, simply a dominating team performance.

Congratulations players - Mitchell Weeks, Justin Kolar, Keegan Pulford-Thorpe, Cam Fullop, Isaak Phillips, Jeff Johnson, Mason Hume, Mitch Russell, Isaac Boer Hersh, Alec Henry, Baily Kirwin, Matt Zebedee, Ethan Patel, Easton Payne, Curtis Kuzmyk, Harrison Hardy, Jacob Hiltz, Jack St John, Coaches Joe Gidari, Stan Kondrotas, Sean Payne, Trainer Mark Zebedee and Rob Kuzmyk, Managers Katherine Johnson,  Kelly Hardy, on and off ice help Curt Phillips and Jeff Johnson and of course all the parents of these wonderful players.

BARRIE 99A

INTERNATIONAL SILVER STICK

CHAMPIONS

It would have been so easy to just play out a game you are down 5 - 0 but Barrie Colts 99 A team decided to take matters into their own hands and battle back to win 8 -7 in overtime against Woodstock putting them into the International Silver Stick Championship versus the defending OMHA Champions Coburg. In a very exciting and hard fought championship game battle Barrie prevailed and won 2 -1.

PS101 congratulates the Barrie 99 A team, its coaches, manger and parents for proving commitment to win will always win!!!!

Bradford Bulldogs 1999 Major Bantam A

It comes with much pride that I am happy to announce that the Bradford Bulldogs 1999 A team just won their divisional finals and are now in the final 4 OMHAs. It has been 4 straight years I have worked viturally every week of the season with this group of young men and have seen there skating and skills come so far a testement to the investment by the coaches to have this type of development and it is paying off and clearly shows by being in the final 4 OMHAs 3 of the last 4 years.

These young men have worked so hard to make this their year and came up with some very good competition in Barrie Colts and in a thrilling series that saw everything they came away with a 4 -2 win taking the series 3 games to 2. Now its time to work even harder and bring home that OMHA title!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations Coach Mike Beadle and staff and the entire team. Mike said that everyone was going last night and they earned it with team play and hard work. Keep it going Bulldogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to also give credit to the Barrie Colts and coach Paul Ciccone. This series was one of the best ever and coach Paul has taken this team a very long way after making so many changes this year they have had an extrodinary year as well. I am lucky to have worked with their team as well.

Congraulations Bradford 99 Major Bantam A

The Bradford 99 Major Bantam A team is a team I am very much attached to. This is their 4th straight year with weekly PS101 Skating sessions and I have seen them grow in leaps and bounds in every aspect from skating to shooting to team play to now believing they can do it. Here is a write up from Coach Mike Beadle after winning a thrilling triple over time championship game against 2012/2013 OMHA Champs Cobourg at this weekends Blue and Gold Tournament in Bradford. Way to go Boys!!!!!!!!!

Bradford Bulldogs 99's win Blue and Gold Tournament this weekend October 18-20 2013.  Not without having to earn their victory each shift of every game.  On Friday they opened the tournament against Caledon playing a great game and winning 5-0.  Game 2 saw Bradford down in the first period by one against Moore Town.  Bradford on a 5 on 3 mid second rallies to take the lead with 3 goals in 45 seconds to change the tempo of the game and control the game.  Bradford wins game 2 5-3.  Game 3 was the anticipated game against last year’s OMHA 99 champions Cobourg.  Bradford fought hard but dropped the game 2-5 with an empty netter by Cobourg.  Game 4 faced  back against Moore Town for final draw in round robin play.  Moore Town game out to avenge there last loss against Bradford.  Final score Bradford 3 Moore 3 for tie game.  Bradford finished second in B division behind Cobourg.  Bradford advanced to semifinal against the Toronto Royals who finished 1st in A division.

The semifinal game Bradford came to play.  Falling behind by one in the first period.  The boys never quit and kept coming to end the 3rd period tied 3-3.  Overtime format then play began.  3 minutes 4 on 4 followed by 3 minutes of 3 on 3.  Still no score.  Next 3 minutes 2 on 2. Bradford had the advantage and was pressing hard.  Royals took a penalty and Bradford's advantage to play 2 on 1.  4 attempts and movement of the puck to score the winner.  Bradford wins 4-3 to advance to meet Cobourg.

Game 6 finals Bradford vs Cobourg.  Bradford came to play.  Outshouting Cobourg 8-4 in first, end of first no score 0 - 0.  Second period Bradford had some penalty trouble and Cobourg took advantage and scored the opener.  End of second Cobourg 2 Bradford 1.  Bradford not ready to give up kept coming and took the lead in the 3-2 but a late scramble in front of Bradford's net saw Cobourg bury the loose puck and tied the game 1:34 to play in regulation.  After regulation finished tied 3-3.  Again the Overtime format kicks in 4 on 4 for 3 minutes game tied at the end of first OT 3-3.  Next OT 3 on 3 for 3 minutes coaches strategize players to look at combos of players best to attack and score.  End of 3 on 3 still no change tied 3-3.  Next 2 on 2 Bradford not ready to quit starts back hard play and controlled the zone with many scoring chances.  On a quick play up the ice Bradford's player is hauled down on a breakaway.  Penalty shot called!  Bradford player takes the penalty shot out thinking and out controlling the penalty shot shooting and scoring to win the tournament 4-3! Bradford was congratulated for a well-disciplined hard fought game by referees.    Great played game by the Bradford Bulldogs 99's!  Keep up the great work boys!

PS101 Prospects 98

Challenge Cup Champions

What better way to spend a blistering hot July long weekend then in the rink lol. With our 2 visitors from Denmark - top prospects David Madsen a 99 and Daniel Nielsen a 98 - PS101 put a team together so they could play in some good old Canadian hockey games. We entered into this tournament as an underaged 98 team with a couple 99 players with the competition mostly consisting of 97 born players. I was lucky enough to have the luxury of having James Richmond coach this team all weekend and what a treat it was for me and for the players to have such a highly noted and respected Jr A coach at the helm.

It didnt take the boys long to see the Danish young men were really good players. In the first game they stopped counting points after 5 - 0 but the skill of these 2 players had everyone watching with big smiles. We came away with a big win the first game but then took a bit of time off before JR laid the law down and the boys responded with a nice comeback to tie it 3 -3 in the second game leaving us 1 - 0 -1 after day one.

If Friday wasnt hot enough Saturday made up for it and we played a good first game taking a 4 -2 win heading into the last contest with the chance to take outright first place and a bye to the finals. A hard fought battle we fell a bit short losing 1 - 0 so Sunday morning 910am we had to be there and be ready.

Sunday was hot muggy humid a real scorcher and as it turned our the boys played a great first game beating the G -Men 4 - 2 who beat us 1 - 0 the day prior for our only loss. A big game for the 2 Cams and we were off to the finals.

The boys knew we were there to win and JR let them know if you play to win and do all the little things right we will win and sure enough they came out hot as the day was and burned them for a deciding 4 -1 championship win with Rawny leading the way with a big game!!!!!!

What a wonderful weekend for the players they got to meet and play with some of the best players from Denmark, they got to be coached by simply the best James Richmond who not only showed me why he puts so many at a higher level but from every player who had a great lesson on what it takes to be the best you can be and win as a team. Cant wait for round two July 11-13 at the Nott.

PS101 Prospects 98 welcome Top 99 Denmark Prospect David Madsen, Top 98 Denmark Prospect Daniel Nielsen and Aurora Tigers Jr A Head Coach and GM and LA Kings skills instructor James Richmond

PS 101 1998 PROSPECTS

CHOWDER CUP 2013

THE EXPERIENCE

PS101 Prospects team just returned from their first ever Chowder Cup tournament in Boston Massachusetts this past week. I wanted to thank both players and parents for the commitment put forth by them to attend this reknown tournament and trust they all came away with a great experience. Thanks to a parent on the team the players and coaching staff all received golf shirts and baseball caps to look equally as good off the ice as we did on the ice. I came away from this tournament very proud of the accomplishments of this group and know that PS101 Prospects will be back next year bigger and better from this years experience.

The Games

The boys were pumped and ready to go in our first ever game together as a full team. Until then we had 2 practices and a exhibition game with a partial squads. The result was great, we were clearly the better team leaving with a 9 - 2 win. It was in an interesting arena where our bench was divided in 2 sections split by a column and our dressing room was up 2 flights of stairs but we got the start we wanted. Game 2 presented much better competition but the boys came out again with great effort and in a very tough physical game came out with a 3 - 1 win. Heading into the last of the 3 qualfiiers we sat in first in our division tied in points but technically in first due to tie breakers. This game was our best competition and was also on teh bigger Olympic sized. We didnt seem to have the legs we did the first 2 games but continued to work hard and show effort was never an area of concern but just fell short losing 4 -2 one of which was an empty netter and our Chowder Cup experience over.

The Player/Parent Group

All in all it was nice to see a group of players where many had never all played together come together so well as a team. I wanted a team made up of players from different teams and areas and this group while mostly made up of many from our winter team also had several players from other teams and even one from another province. They all meshed together both on the ice and off with a shared enthusiam and passion for the game of hockey that we all love. Behind every great player group is an equally great parent group and this group had no exceptions. When speaking of enthusiam, and passion for the game it must be remembered the parents role in this has as much if not more commitment to realizing a sons dream of trying to make it as a hockey player.

Boston and Area Extra Activities

Many players and parents took advantage of the travel to couple it in with their summer vacation. Many hit Cape Cod and hit the beach and many sites. The Provincetown experience is very much recommended it is something everyone should see. I admit I was a little reluctant to go but glad we did as it is something to experience.  I know for a small group of players and parents our last night knowing we were done we wanted to end it on a great birthday celebration for a player and some good times. We hit the market down in downtown Boston Saturday got to see a neat street act and then had a complete blast at Dicks Last Resort for dinner and a lot of fun for both the boys and the parents it is another must attend place.

Special Thanks

I want to thank everyone who helped out from coaches to parents to the player agent that came to a meet and greet with our players and parents I hope you all had a terrific experience and I look forward to building a 1998 and 1999 team for next years Chowder Cup. Here is just a few of many pictures taken of our Chowder experience please visit my phot album under Chowder Cup to see them all  http://www.leaguelineup.com/photoalbum.asp?url=ps101&sid=629100890&photocatid=297211

PS 101 Prospects 99

King of the Rings Champions!!!!

The Rings

This is the coveted prize, The Ring, the reason all the teams come to this tournament and compete to win, the prize of all prizes, the bling bling to show off for years to come, a true keepsake of a great memory

The Team

I am lucky enough to have many clients and one thing consistent with my clients is the commitment to want to be better, the commitment to working hard to be the best they can be, the commitment by the parents to give every opportunity they can to their child to try and be the best. This team was assembled quickly and involved many players who play against each other during the winter season and some who have never met or played with any of the players on this team but shared the love of the game. It is amazing how in such a short time a group of players can come together, mesh together like they were team mates for years, listen, learn and play a system to perfection, and out work, out skate and out hit their way to the Championship. I am proud of each and everyone of you thank you for playing for PS101 Prospects.

The Coaches

I have to give credit to coach Chris Butcher who was a huge influence in this team acheiving what they did. His passion for the game and knowledge of the game was proven. He is a great motivator and our philosphies of how we wanted this team to play were exactly the same. Coach Keith Paulsen and Wayne Young were also very helpfull this whole weekend and I want to thank you all for your commitment to this team. We worked so well together as a team but it is not hard when you have a group of players as we had.

The Games

The only thing we knew before we hit the ice in the first game was we had a group of players who we knew were not selfish players but rather team players, they were hard working and players who wanted to learn and be better and would work hard to be there.

Our first game I knew was going to be a tough one as the team we were playing had many high caliber players. But that does not mean everything and our boys came out flying, presurring and attacking, playing the system we wanted and we simply out played, out hit, out worked the other team and came away with an impressive 5 -1 win over DHA.

The next game we were already pumped and the boys once again came out flying and skated their way to a 8 -1 win over Hoof Hearted but due to tourney rules only 5 goal spreads were recorded. End of day one a great start.

Day two we played the Devils who appeared from there record to be a good team. Our team just didnt respond perhaps a little to confident and forgetting what got them to where we were and we were humbled 4 - 0 but knowing we just simply didnt come to play. This may have been what was needed with a new group we will see.

Our next game was against the Generals and we needed to win. The boys all knew they had to make up for the morning loss and they did in impressive style with another recorded 5 -1 win. We were motivated to win as we wanted another shot at the Devils to show them what we are made of and we sure did that this game. Unfortunately we lost one of the leaders of this team to a suspension for first playoff game Sunday.

Our first playoff game we were down a great player and playing a team we had not played before. Both teams came out strong and we found oursleves down but then turned it up. We started to dominate and take over the game and even on a penalty kill out chanced the other team and this marked the turn arround point and we skated to a 3 -1 win over the Shamrocks and in the championship game.

Most went for a team breaksfeast in the area which was great to see the team bonding. We arrived at York and did a quick workout to get the feet moving and coach Chris had some words and we left the boys to get ready. There was lengthy delays and we wondered how this would affect the boys but when we came in the room for the pre game speach it was silent other then a motivational speech being played on the boom box, a speach that is well known and I was emotionally taken by how each and every player was silent, ready and focused at the task at hand. It gives me goose bumps writing this. Awesome is all I can say.

Our opponents were none other then DHA. Since we last played them last they upgraded there roster but we were confident if we played our game we would come out on top. The game was a very exciting game with some great goals and plays, great hustle and determination, great goaltending, defence and offence and we won it all with a 3 - 2 win.

It was a very rewarding moment for me, my first attempts this month at putting tournament teams together and wanting only the best for the players and parents on the team assembled. It was a great group and this will be a great memory for all. New friendships were made, respect was earned, and I was proud to have had these young men represent PS101 so well.

PS101 will be offering more tournament teams next year at various age groups wanting to repeat the great experiences we had in Boston with the 1998 group and now at the King of the Rings with the 1999 age group.

Please take the time to visit my Photo Albums for more pictures and commentary.
