Trying Tryout Time

Try out season is upon us it can be the most rewarding of times it can be the most trying of times. Each year at this time of year players go to compete for spots on teams. It is a very difficult time for all involved and I would like to share a couple of feel good stories.

Mason Smith a 2003 has skated with me from time to time over the past few years. I remember the first time he came on ice with me he immediately caught my attention as he had a great stride and skated so well. I was shocked to learn he was a 2003 and even more shocking to me was he just played Thornton local league. I am very proud to not only say the "local league legend"  has made PS101 Prospects 2003 team but also made the Barrie 2003 AAA team!!!! Congratulations Mason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mitch Newman is a 2001 that is very known to me. I grew up with his father Dave and Mitch has skated with me for a number of years playing on the PS101 Prospects 2001 team since day one. Mitch has one of the best shots of the many 2001 players who visit my sessions in fact he has a rocket. His work ethic both on and off the ice paid off huge today when he made the Markham Waxers AAA team!!!!!!

Way to go Mitch you earned it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ringette

Ringette has many similarities to the game of hockey, they both are played on a full rink, they both have off side type rules, they both use a stick and skating is the most important part of both games.  

It could be argued that Ringette needs more agile skaters as the easier control of the ring utilizes quick escapes, tight pivots and quick transitions. Skating is skating whether it be hockey or ringette and the same technical execution of skating is required and this is an area of expertise PS101 can help with.

Last winter I was retained to do skating sessions with players and teams from the NDRA. I was lucky enough to work with the  LTP program, the U10 and U16A teams. The girls responded great, they listen intently, asked questions and from start to finish I saw them get better.

The need to develope in any league is there and thankfully recognized by those who are putting an effort into making there players better. PS101 can help your player, team or organization with any requirements.
