The NHL/NHLPA First Shift program is designed to ensure a positive experience for new-to-hockey families. We want families to experience the game at its best.  This program is open to all Canadian children between the ages of 6 and 10 years old who have never previously been registered in minor hockey.   On-ice sessions with fun drills are always on the same day of the week, same time and same arena.   Hockey Canada on-ice curriculum with drills focused on fun range hockey experiences to stimulate a desire for continued participation in hockey.

 We believe in all hockey has to offer kids, their families and our communities. We designed the NHL/NHLPA First Shift to facilitate entry into hockey by offering a program that is  ACCESSIBLE, AFFORDABLE, SAFE, and most importantly, FUN!. We cannot wait to help your kids fall in love with hockey.

 $199 registration fee includes a full set of BAUER equipment and six on-ice trial sessions.

AAA Tryout Information

All players interested in being considered for AAA in the Eastern Zone should have indicated their interest when they registered for the DJHL tryouts.  The AAA coaches will evaluate players who have indicated an interest in playing AAA during the final phase of the AA/A DJHL tryouts for both the peewee and bantam divisions.  The coaches will then invite back a minimum of 30 players for the final phase of the AAA selection process. 

This process eliminates the need for a full tryout process immediately following an intensive DJHL tryout process.  It saves on the cost of 3 hours of ice time for the AAA selection process and eliminates duplication in the tryout process.

The four AAA coaches will schedule ice time for phase two of the AAA selection process.  Those times will be published to the AAA website and will also be emailed out with the invitations to phase two for those selected to continue with the AAA team selection.

There will be an information session regarding the AAA format for the upcoming season during the week of September 23-27^th.  By that time the dates and locations of all tournaments should be finalized.  The exact time and location of that meeting will be announced in the coming days.  Stay tuned.

Atom Tryouts will begin Monday, Sept. 16th. Tryouts will consist of 2 non-evaluative practices, 2 evaluated skill sessions and 3 evaluated games. All players trying out for atom a/b/c/d should be registered by Friday Sept. 13th. Groups will be posted by Sunday Sept.15. 

IP/Novice evaluations will begin Sept. 21st. Groups will be posted by Thursday Sept. 19th.

Sweat camps will begin Monday Sept. 16th. Groups and times will be posted shortly.

We have been receiving emails stating that people are not seeing the sweat camps, tryout fees etc. online.  The tryouts are combines with the HL fees there is an option to register for HL or HL and tryouts. Please choose one of these options.

When you access the online registration please make sure that you select Register Participants. 

If returning you would already show up.  Choose Register. 

If new choose register new participant.  Fill out all the required information.

The division your eligible to play with should pop up next. Choose the Division.

For example: even if you have a U12 female player your player is still considered Peewee Division age 2007/2008 birth years.  You need to select this group. Once you select this division you would see all available registration options for your player.  Same with U15 you would select Bantam 2005/2006 birth years.

The same process if registering for our regular programs.

The intro to Hockey is for" any" age player who is wanting to give hockey a try.

There will be three separate 1 hour skates where you can feel comfortable and skate around with a stick and puck and get the feel of hockey.

All that is required is a helmet, skates and a stick. If you have access to full equipment and you would like to fully dress  to give the full idea of moving with the gear on that would be fine too, but, it's not necessary. Please be advised that we will be offering a sweat camp for the Atom players who will "NOT" be trying out for ATOM A/B/C/D.  It will be 6 sessions for $90.00.  You can register online or you can register in person at the office during office hours.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact the office at office@cbrminorhockey.com.  The Sweat Camp starts this Friday evening September 20.

We will postpone the Midget Two Line at this time.  Once the Doug Marshall and High School Tryouts are over we will have more interest for the Two Line. Please check back for an update notice.  Two Line Registration is still opened.

Planning has begun for the second season of the Eastern Junior Women's Hockey League.

Draft applications for new players will be accepted until September 22, 2019. Players will be invited to a draft skate and team assignment will occur after September 27, 2019. Send applications to ejwhlhockey18@gmail.com. 

The season kick off will be October 4, 2019 and continue until November 29, 2019. Games will resume January 6, 2020 with season concluding by April 3, 2020. There will be no league games scheduled during MUN study breaks.

Registration fees will be posted once teams are finalized. This year players are expected to attend 80% of season play to participate in the league playoffs.

Traffic Advisory

Hi Vis Traffic Control Inc. would like to advise motorists of an important traffic detour on Saturday, September 21 starting at 5:00 a.m. for 48 hours until 5 a.m. Monday, September 23.

This year, perhaps more than other, we are counting on our CBR volunteers to step up as we navigate through our safe return to play. One new volunteer position that will be created this year is that of the team manager (safety manger). The team manager will be appointed to every team in all divisions, and among other duties, will be given the responsibility to work with our Covid Communications Officer to help ensure that return to play protocols are adhered too. Like coaches, team managers will be asked to attend all on ice sessions so they can provide guidance to our safe return to play. For example, each team manager will manage the pre-screening checks before players can enter the rink. Again, we know that we are entering a challenging year, but we are 100 % confident in our volunteers’ abilities and dedication to execute our return to play plans.

Good Afternoon Members,

On Aug 31^st, Hockey NL, in partnership with Hockey Canada, released a detailed plan and outline for its member associations regarding a safe return to hockey. These plans are set out to ensure that every phase of our return to hockey is undertaken with an abundance of caution while respecting the safety of our players, coaches, officials, administrators and volunteers. Hockey NL’s Return to Hockey is linked below and we strongly encourage all members to read through the document.

CBR’s return to hockey plan will encompass the rules set out by HNL but our plan will also take in to account the rules and regulations set out by the town for the facility guidelines. The facility guidelines are also linked below, and we encourage all members to read through the facility guideline document.

Please understand that these documents are fluid and there may be changes made at any time as we forward with our return to play guidelines. The CBR executive have submitted their plans to HNL for a safe return to play and we are confident that we will soon be returning to the game we all love in a safe and cautious manner.

Please take the time to review the below documents and keep checking back to our home page as information will be updated regarding volunteer/coaching registration, player registration and program start dates in the very near future. RFMS

• Up to two parents/guardians/family members per skater are permitted in the facility when there are 25 or less skaters on the ice.  For sessions that are greater than 25 members on the ice, only one parent/guardian per skater is permitted.
• In order to avoid congestion and maintain social distancing, parents/guardians will be permitted in the facility with their child, however they must proceed to the seating area and are not permitted in hallway or dressing room area.
• Parents/guardians/family members must sit assigned seating, even if in the same bubble in order to ensure that the adequate social distancing is being maintained with other parents/guardians/family members.
• Once the session is completed, parents/guardians must leave the facility immediately and wait outside for their child.  In order to maintain adequate social distancing and avoid congestion, parents/guardians will not be permitted within the participant’s change/dressing area while in use.

3. been in close contact, in the last 14 days, with a person suffering from acute respiratory illness who has travelled outside of the identified areas within 14 days prior to illness onset?

If you answer “YES” to any of the above, you are not permitted to attend any CBRMHA Session. If you answer “NO” to all the above, you can attend scheduled CBRMHA Session.

CBRMHA, per HNL Requirement, have been checking in all players/parents into each rink for all CBRMHA sessions.  The list of parents who appear on your Team's Covid Manager/Checkin Volunteer's list, was generated from each hockey player's Registration form. 

If when registering your hockey player, just one parent was listed on the registration form, or if not enough information (contact phone number, email address) was provided for a parent/player...then that parent/player will not appear on your hockey player's Team list.   In that case, our Checkin Volunteers have been manually adding that information.

If you or a family member, is not on your Team's list, (and our Checkin Volunteers have had to manually add your information), you can Click Here to get your information added to your Team List.

We will upload your information into your Team List, the weekend of December 27th.

(HNL has announced that a gross misconduct will be assessed to any team official on the bench who fails to wear or properly wear a mask at all times during a game....NO WARNINGS) 

Reminder to all coaching staff that wearing a Non-Medical Mask is mandatory for games and is required to be appropriately worn while coaching staff are on the players bench during competition.

Good day Parents,

It has been brought to our attention numerous times that players are rolling into or out of the stadium without a helmet on while using their roller guards.  This is a safety concern and we would really appreciate it if your player will abide by the rules and ensure that they are wearing a helmet while using the roller guards. 

We did have an incident the other day where a player did actually fall and luckily they didn't get hurt this time but there is a great chance that they could fall and hit their head.  Please make every effort to talk to your player.  If it continues they will be banned from use.

Coaches are reminded they must complete the HU Online Coach 1/2 before being able to sign up for the virtual clinic. Coaches must sign up for the clinic prior to the start of the clinic as coaches cannot be signed into a clinic after it has started. This will be the LAST Coach 2 of the season. This is a unique opportunity for you to get involved and have a very rewarding and worthwhile hockey experience.   All of the positions provide a valuable development opportunity for Newfoundland & Labrador coaches, managers and trainers.

Subject: Suspension of Hockey

As announced today by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

All hockey in our Eastern Regional Zone has been suspended until further notice, effective immediately.

This includes all practices, games or any member sanctioned off ice events.

The area suspended includes all nine minor hockey associations, leagues and U18 AAA Teams in the Eastern Zone, all junior high and high school hockey in the Eastern Zone and all teams in the St. John’s Junior Hockey League.

Sanctioned on-ice activities in all other areas of Newfoundland and Labrador are permitted to continue as scheduled.

We will provide further information once it becomes available from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador  and we thank everyone in advance for their cooperation as we move through this fluid and very difficult time.

 Subject: Suspension of Hockey Extended to the Entire Province

 Subsequent to the announcement today from Government of NL Chief Medical Officer in which they suspended all recreation sports and closed Arenas in the entire province, and in light of the ongoing and evolving developments with the recent COVID-19 outbreaks, Hockey NL has suspended all sanctioned events effective immediately.

 This pause includes all associations, leagues, teams,  practices, games, off ice activities, ticket sales and all events. This will be revaluated in 14 days.

 We will provide further information once it becomes available and we thank everyone in advance for their cooperation as we move through this fluid and very difficult time.

 As always, we will continue to observe the situation and abide by the directives of the CMO-NL. We appreciate your understanding and support on these issues. We also expect all of our members to abide by this direction in the interest of safety for everyone in our province and communities.

On behalf of the Branch

Dear Members:

As you may be aware, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Newfoundland and Labrador, today
announced a significant increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in our province – 100 positive cases with 1
presumptive positive – bringing our total to 210 active cases with zero recoveries thus far.

Dr. Fitzgerald stated the following today:

• The high level of cases indicates that COVID-19 has been circulating in our province for some time
• The numbers indicate some citizens have been spreading the virus while:
• o having only mild symptoms, or
• o being asymptomatic;
•  "We are seeing a snowball effect now”

The concerning aspect of this news is the exponential spread of this virus and Dr. Fitzgerald stating that it has been
here for some time to have the results we are seeing.  

Earlier this week, Hockey NL ceased all operations across the island as per CMO Special Measures. With the news
today, we are circulating the following info to help clarify questions and/or concerns members, and their families,
may have. Further to Dr. Fitzgerald’s new Special Measures, Hockey NL takes the following stance:

1) People need to self-isolate for 14 days (and not 17 days – this has been corrected) if they meet any of

these criteria:

a. All Minor U13, U15, U18, and Female U15 and U20 teams/members who competed in

games/practices between Feb. 5 and Feb. 7, including teams from Eastern Zone and other

zones that competed with teams from Eastern;

b. Junior Hockey teams where a player on said team is in High School within the Eastern zone;

c. Coaches, staff, managers, and volunteers, who were involved with activities related to (a) and

(b) between Feb. 5 and Feb. 7;

d. Officials who have worked games in this window involving any of (a) to (c);

e. Any member who has come into direct contact with another member in groups (a) to (d);

f. Any family member of an individual listed in (a) to (e) are not required to isolate unless they or

their household member experiences symptoms of COVID-19 and/or tests positive for COVID-

19;

g. Those individuals who meet criteria outlined by the CMO-NL to self-isolate as per her directives;

2) Members who are “contacts of contacts” need to monitor for symptoms closely and adhere to Public

Health guidelines;

3) Anyone experiencing one (1) symptom of COVID-19 needs to get tested. Symptoms of COVID-19 include:

a. Fever, including chills or sweats;

b. A new or worsening cough;

c. Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing;

d. Runny, stuffy or congested nose;

e. Sore throat or difficulty swallowing;

f. Headache;

g. Loss of sense of smell or taste;

h. Unusual fatigue or lack of energy;

i. New onset of muscle aches;

j. Loss of appetite;

k. Vomiting or diarrhea for more than 24 hours; and,

l. Small red or purple spots on hands and/or feet.

4) Individuals in the above groups are asked to self-isolate away from household members for 14 days

from the date of the last gathering or game they attended, or from their last contact with a positive

case, whichever is more recent.

Hockey NL fully supports this decision and takes these matters extremely seriously. As a Branch, we cannot stress
enough the importance of complying with the public health orders for the safety of our families and our
communities.

Hockey NL reminds all members of Your Responsibility:

• Follow Public Health Guidance for All Alert Levels.

• Stay at home as much as possible, except to get essentials like groceries and medications.

• Limit your contacts to your household bubble.

• If you have COVID-19 symptoms, contact 811.

• You are strongly encouraged to work from home, where possible.

The Chief Medical Officer has stated that these Special Measures will be re-evaluated in fourteen (14) days.
Hockey NL will continue to monitor the situation and support Members and Public Health during this challenging
time. Should you have any questions, please pass them through your Hockey NL representatives and we shall
endeavour to provide a response as soon as possible. We ask for your patience, understanding, and commitment
to the Special Measures.

U13 HL will start again this week with the first two (2) weeks being practices (skills and drills).  The same two teams will practice together for the first two weeks.

 Please read the below carefully as there have been changes.

 Important Information:

• Players are to arrive at the rink fully dressed with a mask on. 
• The rink doors will be open 15 minutes before your scheduled ice time.
• Everyone has to Exist the building As Soon As Possible after getting off the ice.  Everyone has to be out of the rink before the Zamboni cleans the ice. 
• The dressing rooms will be open but for in/out only. NO socialize or fulling around if, the rink attendees find that players/ coaches are taking too long in the dressing rooms they will be closed for use.  
• Players are to keep their face mask on up until they go on the ice and put them back on when they get off the ice.
• Coaches have to keep their face mask on at ALL times, even on the ice.
• NO Parents allowed in the rink at this time for U13
• A COVID manager is required on the door to check-in players and coaches,  the door should be locked when ALL players and coaches are in the rink.
• We are asking that the COVID manager stay during the practice as an off-ice helper just in case a parent needs to be called.

2. Players are being evaluated on their skill and not necessarily their positional play. Hockey Canada states that players          should be placed on teams with - like skilled players. Players should be selected for teams based on skill, not positional preference.

Please be advised that there is no U7 and U9 scheduled for this weekend. Please keep checking the website for an updated group list for next weekend Oct 10/11th. Please be advised that the upcoming group lists are only for the evaluation process, possibly 3-5 sessions.

After evaluations, we will  place each player in groups of 50, considered a division or cohort. There will be four teams within each division. Once we have our divisions developed, divisional coordinators will able to accommodate same team requests to the best of our ability.

AAA Female Program for 2020-2021: Coach Applications and Player Registration

We are ready to start the AAA Female program for this season. We will be offering programs in U13, U15, and U18 in each of our AAA zones. 

  The plan for the season will have two components:

1. Players will be selected in each zone via a tryout process. Each team may select up to 20 players and 4 goalies. This will allow the players to be divided into 2 groups and facilitate 2-line hockey games as well as skill-based sessions. Only players that are registered in female hockey will be eligible to try out pursuant to AAA Policy rule 1.4. 

 2. As the NL Sport Guidelines currently restrict competition between health regions, we cannot offer the traditional series of AAA league weekends. To supplement the intrazone play we are partnering with Hockey Development (High Performance Program) to offer weekend development camps. The camps are not mandatory as players can choose to register for all or some of the camps. 

 U13 will have camps in Jan and Feb. U15 and U18 will have camps in Dec, Jan, and Feb. Camps will be held in various zones depending on ice availability. 

 These camps are meant to provide a higher level of skill development for our high performance female players. Only players registered in the AAA program in their zone will be eligible to attend these camps.

 Note : The March weekend format will depend on CMO guidelines around tournaments and regional competition. In the event we are allowed to participate in an Atlantic championship a final roster will be selected from the list of 24 players in each zone and a playdown event will be held.

Tryouts are soon coming up for PeeWee B/C and Bantam B/C.  If you have not signed up for the Tryouts for PeeWee and Bantam please do so asap the deadlines are posted on the Website. 

If you have not signed up you will see options there to sign up for House League and Tryouts, pick this one 

If you have signed up and you now decided that your player would like to tryout there is a tab there that you can select just tryouts because you have already signed up for House League.  

For those who have just signed up for Tryouts and didn't choose House League as well,please ensure that you go back into the Registration Website to sign up for HL.

We would like to advise you that there has been a program change with respect to the selection of the PeeWee D Team. Originally it was decided to have this evaluation done with the House League but after reviewing the process it would be more appropriate to have this evaluation completed with the B/C process as well.  We understand that this is very short notice but it’s best for the players to be evaluated with this process.  We are trying to offer the best programming and bring the D’s into the evaluation would make the tryout process run smoother and also trying to evaluate a player that doesn't want to tryout for the All Star teams gives equality to them as well. 

Please accept our sincere apologies for the late addition to this process.  We are reaching out to the players who have only signed up for house league so that they are aware of this program change.  If you would like to discuss this further please contact the office and your concerns will be addressed.  This process will still be the same number of games and practices as the B/C process.  The cost of registration is $75.00.

As stated we are sorry for the late addition but it will be a better process for the players.  The online registration is opened for the D Tryouts also, the office will be opened at 5:00 on Wednesday to accommodate.

If you are interested in tryout for Bantam D there will be a tryout process for this division as well.  You can register online under the Bantam D tab if you haven't already signed up for tryouts.  If you are registered for B/C already you don't have to register again.  Sorry for the short notice but there was a review of the tryouts process and it was felt that the players wanting to tryout for the B/C/D teams need to be evaluated separately to distinguish between a player who is not interested in the B/C DJHL  or the D Team which will still be playing House league and D.  The cost of tryouts is $75.00.  You will receive two practices and three games. Please note this will take place the same time as the B/C tryouts.

2019 World Girls’ Ice Hockey Weekend

Sunday October 5th, 10:00 am , at the Robert French Memorial Arena there will be an hour of fun, skills and drills for all females registered in the CBR Minor Hockey program ages 12 under.  

From October 4-6, 2019, the International Ice Hockey Federation will lead the way on the ninth year of World Girls’ Ice Hockey Weekend, with dozens of federations around the world taking part. The goal of this weekend is to have events from coast to coast to coast that recruit, retain and engage female players, coaches, officials and fans – old and new. This event aims to celebrate and grow the female game and unite Canadians through grassroots programming led by female hockey associations, minor hockey associations and communities.

RE: All-Star and Developmental Team Notes By-Law # 2

The CBRMHA would like to address the unfortunate circumstances that surround comments made recently on social media. We are very disheartened to find ourselves in this situation.

As an Executive, we feel it is important that we note key policies which impact this situation. By-law #2 under ALL-Star Developmental Team Notes states:

“Any player selected for All-Star, who voluntarily quits shall not be eligible to play All Star Hockey in the next season. Additionally, they are not eligible to try out for the Developmental All-Star Teams”.

 This by law is one that many associations exhibit to avoid situations where players are given every opportunity to participate in programs, to not deny another child an opportunity, and to deter any one individual from attempting to circumvent selection processes.  Our selection process is meant to be fair to all those who choose to participate in our Minor Hockey programs. There are occasions where people disagree with that process, the decisions made, and/or outcomes but CBRMHA works hard to offer every child a game of hockey.  Unfortunately, there are times when players withdraw from our program and situations arise such as in today’s circumstance.

CBRMHA wants to reiterate that ALL players are eligible to participate in house league hockey within our organization. Our Executive and Coaching staff of volunteers are working tirelessly to develop, promote and deliver exceptional hockey opportunities for ALL of our members on an equal and fair playing ground.

We are in the process of preparing for our CBR Renegade U15 provincial team tryout and roster selection. The selection process will be done during two games late November early December by our Tech staff evaluators and notification will be given prior to these games. The U15 provincial team will have a roster of 17, 15 players and 2 goalies and will be posted to the CBR website once the team has been selected. Cost per player will be determined at a later date this will cover socks , additional ice time and fees, payment is required once team has been selected. Players that are not selected to the roster have the opportunity to be placed on a list and given the opportunity to play in another association if the need arises. If interested in being evaluated for the U15 provincial team please send an email to cbrmhafemalerep@gmail.com by Friday November 22^nd .

Tryouts for the Eastern PeeWee Female AA team will take place at the below times at Mile One Arena:

• 9 am – 10 am Saturday December 7^th
• 3 pm – 4 pm Saturday December 7^th

There were technical issues this am with the registration.  Please note online is working.  Also, the Second set for Power skating starts January 9th, 2020   NOT on the 2nd that's for the last skate for first set.  

We are pleased to announce that we will be holding online registration and in person registration for power skating on Saturday December 28, 2019.  Online will open at 9:00 am and the in person will open at the same time at the CBSA office.  Please note that this is an open registration, if you were in the last sessions doesn't automatically make you registered for this session.  It is opened up for everyone to give fairness to those who were not successful for the last sessions.  Please also note, if you don't get in please advise the office that you would like to be put on a waiting list because there are always unexpected scheduling issues arise.  Cost is 150.00 paid in full at time of registration.  There will be 60 spots available.

We are getting ready to begin our Midget All Star Program for this season.  Tryouts will begin Early January.  At this time we are trying to determine if we will have enough interest for two teams.to attend the provincial tournament in April It's fairly certain that both teams will be traveling out of the Metro region.  This will be determined at the final grading report release in early February.  We want to ensure that everyone is aware of this before making a commitment

Good Day Parents/Players/Siblings,

The Town of Conception Bay South are asking for your cooperation in ensuring that the people who are utilizing the walking track during the games are able to use them while the games are on going.  Please keep in mind that the games are not private functions and the walking track is still accessible to the public.  It has come to our attention that the walkers are not able to access the walking track with ease. 

Another note, parents please ensure that your players are not playing hockey in the hallways or beating a ball off the walls.  During a game on Saturday a player was shooting a ball of the walls.  You can also notice that there are ball marks on the garage door there which is not acceptable.  We have a beautiful facility and we would like to keep it looking this way.  If you see a player doing this please stop them right away.

The CBR Board would like to extend an invite to parents/guardians to attend an information session on Sunday, Sept 20th at the Royal Canadian Legion here in CBS. We ask that only one guardian attend from each hockey family. We have just received our approval from HNL for our return to hockey plan and we are very excited to share these plans with you. Grand Falls-Windsor, NL – Hockey NL announced today that the inaugural season for the newly formed Eastern Junior Women’s League in St. John’s will have their first games tonight. 

Debbie Bouzane is the Chair of Female Hockey in the province.  “We are very excited to have this new league formed.  We had a significant void in organized hockey for this demographic and now we have an avenue for these players to continue playing”, said Bouzane.

The league has four teams.  Three junior teams (22 years of age to 17 years of age) as well as the Midget AAA Eastern Ice Breakers.  The puck drop tonight is 7:00 pm at Feildian Gardens.

CBR Minor Hockey and Newfoundland Blind Ice Hockey along with their Sponsor the CBS Lions Club are thrilled to offer a weekly Blind Ice hockey program again this year.  This program provides the opportunity for those with Visual impairments to learn and play Canada’s beloved game.

We anticipate a 12 week program (start date is Sunday, November 11th at 10am at RFM Stadium), and are pleased to inform you that these sessions are free of charge and equipment can be made available for those that need it.  The program services the Avalon Peninsula for players Minor Hockey aged, both Female and Male.

Last season at year end, we were fortunate enough to be able to send three of our players to Toronto (100% funded) to take part in the Canadian Blind Ice Hockey National Tournament, it was an amazing experience for them.  This year we are hoping to send even more.

Blind Ice Hockey is a rapidly growing sport and has just recently held its first ever International Tournament in Pittsburgh in which Team Canada came away victorious.  With the sport growing as it is, the goal is for Blind Ice hockey to be a part of the Paralympics by 2026 and of course our goal is to have representation from Newfoundland on that team.  The Sky is the limit.

Monday November 5^th will be the kick off day for Canadian Blind Ice Hockey at the Paradise Arena.   The Days’ agenda is as follows:

•  On the Ice Session, there will be lots of helpers on and off the ice, we will section off the ice again this year 2/3 for skating and the other 1/3 for hockey.

Hockey NL is now accepting applications for volunteer NCCP Clinic Facilitators who are interested and dedicated to educating our coaches in Coach 1, Coach 2 and Development 1.

Selected members will be trained in the delivery of these courses in Gander on September 20 & 21, 2019.  All expenses for this training weekend will be covered by HNL (i.e. travel (most economical), hotel (double occupancy), meals).

Individuals who are selected to attend the training in Gander must be willing, capable and available to train and mentor coaches in their region during the 2019-2020 season.  Applicants must be HP 1 Certified and will be expected to do some travel for the courses if need be.  They must have the ability to communicate and work effectively with volunteers and have great leadership skills. Applicants generally should have training and experience as coaches at the minor hockey level. Previous experience in facilitation and/or teaching would be an asset but not mandatory.

HNL are pleased to open registration to the upcoming Female Under 18 HHP camp in Corner Brook on August 1^st – 6^th, 2019.  From this camp the U18 team will be selected for the Atlantic Challenge cup in Moncton in October.  This is a great scouting opportunity for universities and as well the Team Atlantics and Female National Program.

The HPP Camp provides many opportunities for player development both on and off the ice. This year the U18 camp will be structured differently to offer more high-performance aspects of the player and hockey development including:

• Sport Psychology – Mental Toughness and Visualization.
• Hockey Specific training program with Strengthening coaching
• Introduction to Hockey Options of the Student Athletes
• Leadership Development
• Hockey Canada Female National Program Overview
• Combination of individual and team skill – 5 on 5 play and 4on 4 play, offensive strategies, power play, defensive strategy and penalty kill systems.
• Team builders and player/team bonding through several activities and competitions to provide more aspects of player development and HPP experience.

This years U18 staff are looking forward to teaching, coaching and mentoring our players to improve every aspect of their game and provide the tools for them to reach their potential.

Qualification Notes:

• Head Coach must have NCCP Development 1 or higher coaching certification.
• Assistant Coaches must have NCCP Coach Level 2 Trained or higher coaching certification.
• Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches are required to complete the Hockey University Online Checking Course.
• Trainers are required to complete the Hockey University Online Safety Course.
• Goaltending Coaches are required to complete Goaltending Level 1 Training.
• All staff are required to have speak out/respect in sport for activity leaders completed along with their criminal record/vulnerable persons check and the HNL Screening Application.

A summary of some of the items reported during this year’s AGM include:

• Another increase in registration and participation from the previous year.
• The Western Kings were announced as the host for the 2020 Major Midget Atlantic Championship being held from April 2-5, 2020 in Corner Brook.
• AAA Hockey for Pee Wee and Bantam Minor will return to a tournament format from the previous seasonal league structure.
• Female Under 20 category has changed to Midget Female (players 17 and under) beginning next season.
• A maximum term has now been set for the position of President of the Association.
• Female Council has changed a position to Vice Chair and also added a Tri-Pen Area Director to their Executive Committee.
• Junior Hockey reported on their successful season and playoff fan attendance increase.
• Senior Hockey teams and leagues were all represented and participated in small work group sessions in an attempt to prepare and sustain senior hockey in all areas of the province.
• Hockey NL made a cheque presentation of $33,262.32 to Nevaeh’s Lemonade Stand as a result of the efforts from the female players and teams during the 2019 Female Hockey Provincials.
• Hockey NL has added a new Risk Management Standing Committee in efforts to continually ensure the association has a comprehensive program.

Hockey NL held their election of Officers at the conclusion of the weekend.

We wish inform, and remind all Minor Hockey Associations that during the 2018 Annual General Meeting, Hockey NL amended the wearing of an intra-oral mouth guard in minor hockey to a recommendation rather than a mandatory requirement effective for the 2018-2019 season.

The decision to remove the mandatory requirement of a mouth guard for minor hockey as rendered by the Executive Committee of Hockey NL, was made after carefully examining all of the information that was presented to them.  We persist to ensure safety is paramount in our game and expect that many of our members will continue wearing this piece of equipment as they have been accustom to this.

This change in policy will remain consistent with the majority of the branches that govern hockey in Canada, and will alleviate the policing difficulties experienced by coaches and game officials. There will be no longer any infractions issued by game officials.

Please ensure your members are aware of this change prior to the start of the season.

CBRMHA has an open Board Position, Atom Coordinator for the 2018/19 Season.   If interested in the Board Position, please contact our President by clicking here.   Deadline for submissions is Friday, September 14, 2018.  The Atom Coordinator Board Position is a one year term.

Per our ByLaws, The Divisional Coordinators shall:

1. Be responsible for the management of the particular House League division and coordinate parent support and be the contact person for parent concerns and to bring the parent concerns to the Board.

2. Be involved with the player assignment process to ensure that each team has an equal number of A line, B line and C line players as ranked by the Technical Director and coaches.

3. Distribute and collect (with assistance of the Executive Coordinator/Event Coordinator) all jerseys and equipment for such assigned division.

4. Provide the Registrar the rosters and coaching staff of all teams for such assigned division.

5. Report poor house league attendance, unbalanced teams, or coaching issues to the Board.

6. Communicate with teams regarding upcoming events, important dates and clinics.

7. Be required to assist in the planning and organization all tournaments of the division they are assigned in conjunction with the Association’s hockey program.

8. Provide financial reports to the Vice President and Treasurer no later than two weeks after completion of the tournament.

9. Assist the Executive Coordinator/Event Coordinator with planning for end of season banquet.

Team Selection:

• The try out process will have all Peewee players attend and the AAA and AA teams will be selected from this try out process.
• There will be external evaluators for the tryout process.
• Some extra coaches maybe asked to assist with the on ice tryouts.
• Tryouts will be announced posted on Hockey NL website for each zone and with registration details.

Program Operation: 

The Peewee AAA program will have 4 regions (unless Labrador has interest for a team in which case there will be 5 divisions).  League play will include:

• Warm Up – November
• League weekend – Dec
• League weekend – Feb
• Provincials – March (Awards Banquet will be part of this portion of play)

The Peewee AA program will allow players to experience a regional team play focused on continued skill development and fun. Teams will depend on player interest in that zone to represent a team.  League play will include:

• Warm up – November
• Mid-season tournament
• Provincials March – Awards Banquet

Both AAA and AA will follow ‘Discretion 1’ ice time rules as outlined in the Minor Hockey Rules.

Applications will be accepted until August 3, 2018 for the following:

Congratulations to the following players on being named to our CBR Bantam C & D Renegades teams that will compete in the Provincial Tournament over the Easter Holidays.  Please check our schedule tab for your teams first practice sessions. 

What to expect if your child makes an All Star Team. Please Note The Following:

Players must continue to play with their house league teams for practices and IHL games.

All Star players will pay an additional fee for the season. The fee will cover team ice time, player socks and the Provincial Tournament fee. The amount will be determined in coming days with a deadline to pay and announced on our website.

Please be advised that parents must provide a post-dated cheque for their child's All Star Jersey. No jersey will be disbursed without a post-dated cheque written for $200 made payable to CBRMHA and dated for May 4th. 2019.  At the end of the season, cheques will be destroyed upon return of Jersey on or before May 3rd, 2019.  Cheques will be deposited on May 4th, 2019 for any Jersey not returned, no exceptions, the policy will be strictly enforced. A Jersey distribution day with further details will be posted on the website please check the announcements for an update.
