FOUR MORE JOIN THE FED

January 15, 2024

The Federal League, one of the oldest running baseball leagues in the Midwest in its thirty-eighth season, is set to expand its roster with the addition of four new teams. These upcoming teams will bring fresh talent and excitement to the league, further strengthening its position as the number one hub for 35+ baseball players in Minnesota.

One of the new additions is the Waconia Islanders, who had an impressive 11-2 record last season in the River Valley Wilson. Playing their games at wonderful Lions Park, this solid and long-running franchise is expected to make a strong impact in the Federal League. Similarly, the Minnetonka Lakers, who will adopt a new name as the Tonka Bay Lakers, showcased their skills with a 10-3 record last season also in the River Valley Wilson. With Big Willow as their home ground, they are anticipated to add a new dynamic to the league. Additionally, the Eden Prairie (Lions Tap) Flyers are joining the fold, having achieved a commendable 7-4 record last season. The historic Lions Tap team calls Miller Park their home, the Flyers bring experience and a legacy from their many years in the MSMABA. All three of these teams have a rich history from their former league along with their choice ballparks, making them valuable assets to the Federal League.

Finally, the league will welcome the Hastings Hurricanes, an expansion team formed by former East Metro Mammoth player, Nick Tuckner. Their aim is to bring the old man's baseball charm to Veterans Park, a goal that has generated tremendous excitement within the City of Hastings. Already conducting tryouts in the Fall, the Hurricanes are actively building a formidable roster for the upcoming 2024 summer season. They are already the most enthusiastic team out of the four new clubs.

Since 2020, the Federal League has experienced remarkable growth and competition, adding thirteen teams to its league. Of the new thirteen teams, two teams have already won the much desired AAA Class, and one has won the Class A Championship. This expansion speaks to the league's popularity and the increasing demand for a townball feel amongst older baseball enthusiasts. Established in 1986, the Federal League has successfully provided a platform for players who want to settle down a little but still relish the spirit of the game they grew up loving. With these four new teams joining the league, the Federal League is poised for an exhilarating season ahead. Fans can look forward to witnessing the emergence of refreshed talent, intense but fun competition, and the continuation of the cherished traditions that make baseball a beloved sport in the land of 10,000 amauteur baseball players.
