Northeast Hockey Associations Join Forces to Form One Group

(Left to right) Junior players Liam O’Rielly and Curtis Kavanagh, Minor players Patrick Devereaux and Noah Boland join Senior Eagles Scott Marshall and James Cadigan in the various home and away jerseys to help with the announcement.

All levels of hockey coming out of Jack Byrne Arena next year will carry the Northeast Eagles name, after an agreement this week. Following five seasons of operating independently out of the same arena, the three levels of hockey at Jack Byrne Arena have joined forces heading into the 2016-17 season. The Northeast Minor Hockey Association has joined with the junior and senior teams to form one group designed to help promote the game at all levels. As part of this agreement, the junior team – which plays in the St. John’s Junior Hockey League and has had a player affiliation agreement with Northeast since 2011 – will change its name to Eagles moving forward.

The minor association as well as the senior and junior teams will continue to have their own executives and associations, but will come together to help each other through a separate body designed to help with promotion, fundraising and sponsorship. The agreement was reached at a recent meeting of all three organizations.

Northeast Eagles Bantam B Take Home Silver From Provincials in

Goose Bay, Labrador.

The Bantam B All-star team concluded a spectacular season with a silver medal at their provincials in Goose Bay this past weekend. After a loss in the first game, the team shook off their jet lag and came together as a team. Their teamwork and determination was evident as the boys won games 2, 3 and 4 in convincing fashion to earn a spot in the final.
In the championship game the boys left it all on the ice. They went up against a very skilled and hard working host team but were out scored 3-2 in an exciting, back and forth affair.
However, there really were no losers. The focus, desire and sacrifice on display was everything this coach could possibly ask from his team. The teamwork and class the team showed, made them great representatives of NEMHA.
This trip however, was about so much more than hockey. The fun that was had, the bonds that were forged and the memories made will long outlast the silver hardware received.
The players and coaching staff would like to thank the parents for their love, support and commitment to making this trip possible. Also, a special thanks to a very special nan and pop.
