Cannons General Manager & Head Coach (6th Season)

413.441.3062

Matt Rodovick enters 2019 for his fifth year as head coach of the Colchester Cannons. Rodovick, who is the program's second-ever head coach, was the team's top assistant coach from 2011 to 2014. He oversees all in-game strategy and is also tasked with off-season player development.

The 2018 Cannons finished as state championship tournament finalists after falling to Post 91 on a walkoff base hit. Colchester posted eight straight wins to open league play before eventually posting an 18-3 Northern District mark to capture the regular season championship. With a postseason opening-round win against Bellows Falls 37, Colchester secured its first 20-win season since 2014.

During his initial season at the helm in 2015, Rodovick and the Cannons went 18-15 overall and 11-7 in Northern District play en route to capturing the program's fourth Vermont State Championship title. Colchester, which went 5-1 in the state tournament as the Northern District's No. 3 seed, won four consecutive games while surviving through the losers' bracket. Four Cannons players: Brandon Arel (OF), Ian Machia (2B), Jared Rylant (C) and Derek Sanderson (MVP) were named to the Vermont State Championship All-Tournament team.

Serving four years as an assistant under former head coach Jeff Mongeon, Rodovick was integral in elevating the team's pitching production. From 2011 to 2014, the Cannons' pitching staff posted three of the program's top-five lowest single-season earned-run averages, including a program-best 3.53 ERA in 2013. That same season, Cannons pitchers totaled a single-season record 246 strikeouts.

Rodovick starred at Drury High School in North Adams, Mass., graduating in 2001. While at Drury, Rodovick won two Western Massachusetts championships, threw two no-hitters, and set his school's record for best career ERA. He was also named the Division II State Most Valuable Player as a junior in 2000.

Rodovick then played two years at Division I University of Massachusetts at Amherst before transferring to Springfield College, where he graduated in 2006. While in college, he played summer baseball alongside former Cannons assistant coach Paul Morgan for the North Adams Steeplecats of the prestigious New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).

His coaching career began after college graduation, as Rodovick served two years as the pitching coach at his high school alma mater.

Rodovick resides in Essex Junction with his wife Emily. He has been the head baseball coach at Winooski High School the past three seasons and is employed at Charlotte Central School during the school year.
