Nathan Harrell and Isaac Campbell lead Bulls rally!

Sunday, June 8th - CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
7:00pm, SBA Ducks (16’s) 6, Triad Bulls 3 (FINAL, 7 innings)

At Wake Forest University

Headline: Nathan Harrell and Isaac Campbell lead Bulls rally to cut 4-0 Duck lead to 4-3, but Ducks hold on for championship game win.

The Bulls played the SBA Ducks in the championship game. The Ducks are a collection of the top prospects in the Showcase Baseball Academy (SBA) organization.

The SBA Ducks entered the championship game with a 4-0 record and had only allowed 2 runs in 4 pool play games!

The Bulls faced two really good SBA pitchers. The first pitcher (#17), a right-handed D1 prospect, was hitting the radar gun consistently at 83-85 mph and had great arm strength and a very good slider. #17 threw the first six innings and allowed only 4 Bull hits.

The Ducks closer, Jacob Williamson (#24), is a Duke commit from Hunt High School in Wilson NC. Williamson was also throwing between 83-85 mph and picked up the save with a strong 7th inning.

In the top of the 5th inning, with the Bulls trailing 4-0, Craig Colbourne delivered a 1 out double to left field. Jay Dixon followed that with a walk. With 2 outs and Colbourne on 2nd and Dixon on 1st, Nathan Harrell smashed a shot over the center fielders head to score Colbourne and Dixon. Isaac Campbell then doubled home Nathan Harrell to cut the lead to 4-3 and that was as close as the Bulls could get. The Ducks responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th to take a 6-3 lead and complete the scoring.

Davis O’Brien came into the game in the 5th inning with no outs and runners on 1st and 2nd. To add to the drama, O’Brien walked the first batter he faced to load the bases and put himself into a ‘pitchers worst nightmare’ situation … bases loaded and no outs. O’Brien struck out the next batter for out 1. The next batter flied out to Alec Widmer in right field for out 2 and the runner on 3B attempted to tag up and score but was gunned down by Widmer at the plate for the inning ending double play.

In the 6th inning, with a runner on 1B, Craig Colbourne turned an unassisted double play on a line drive out to 1B and Colbourne then tagged the runner for an inning ending double play.

O’Brien finished up the game with 2 innings pitched, 0 runs allowed, 1 hit, 1 walk and struck out 2. Great job Davis!

Bulls Leading Hitters: Nathan Harrell (2-3 with a triple and 2 RBI’s), Isaac Campbell (1-2 with a double and 1 RBI) and Craig Colbourne (1-3 with a double).

Tournament Summary: Bulls finish 2nd out of 30 teams. Congrats Bulls on a great weekend of baseball!
