Lexington, KY December 26, 2013 10:44:47 AM Entry ID: 2047051 | We are Bryce Jarvis' maternal grandparents and avid lifelong baseball fans. Marty's older brother rose to AAA minor league level in the Giants organization during the 1960's as a 1B/OF/LHP. Played semi-pro and college baseball in Central Illinois(Peoria/Bradley Univ.). Got stuck in AAA as a 1B behind Willie McCovey at the major league level. Eventually pursued a backup career in teaching and woodworking, including framing memorabilia for sports people in the Milwaukee area--Packers/Braves/Brewers?Bears,etc. We are both avid St Louis Cardinal fans beginning from the early 1950's. Our home town, Washington,Ill, pop.5000, is about halfway between St Louis and Chicago, which is crossover territory between Cardinals and Cubs fans. I grew up "talking and listening" baseball in my father's barber shop-in the Stan Musial /Ernie Banks era. During our marriage(1966) and my business career, we lived in a succession of cities including St Louis, NW Chicago suburbs, Minneapolis, San Francisco suburbs(Elizabeth's birthplace), Charlotte(Brett's birthplace), St Petersburg, St Louis again, Clearwater, Atlanta(Roswell), and finally in the Lexington, KY area since 1979. Following Bryce's Dad's career through a Kentucky High School State Championship(1986), a fulfilling Wake Forest experience for both Kevin and Elizabeth, and then a progression of pro franchises starting with the Cincinnati Reds in 1991, has been a form of "baseball heaven" for our family--which now continues through Bryce's baseball involvement. Hoping to see the Bulls play on multiple weekends during the upcoming summer, particularly in Charlotte, Greenville, Boone and/or Atlanta--if the fluid logistics are compatible with my summer (retiree) golf association schedule, and with Marty's various activities.
