Team objective, characteristics, rules and practice structure

Team Objective:

Develop a high-caliber high school track and field team, composed of both boys and girls, that embodies strong character, commitment, comraderey with a focus on continuous improvement.

Team Characteristics:

  1. Dedicated: Devoting time, energy and effort to the team's goals and objectives;
  2. Willing: Ready and eager to contribute to the team's efforts, often going the extra mile;
  3. Connected: Strong relationships and open commujnication with teammates, fosters a sense of unity and trust;
  4. Committed: Fuly invested in the team's successm, prioritizing team goals over individual ones;
  5. Accountable: Taking responsibility for one's actions and performance, individually and as part of the team;
  6. Competitive: Striving to improve and achieve excellence, pushing themselves and their teammates to be their best;
  7. Organized: Efficiently plan, prepare, and execute tasks, ensuring smooth operations and timely completion of goals;
  8. Confident: Believing in oneself and the team's abilities, helps to maintain a positive mindset and overcome challenges;
  9. Consistent: Performing at a high level consistently, maintaining focus and effort throughout the season;
  10. Resilient: One that can bounce back from setbacks, adapt to change, and maintain a positive outlook, even in the face of adversity.  Learn from failures, persevere through challenges, and emerge stronger as a result. 

Team Rules:

  1. Be respectful!
  2. Be early. If you are late or absent notify coaches ahead of time
  3. Be prepared (long pants, sweat shirt, jacket, shoes, water bottle, etc.)
  4. Give full effort always
  5. Represent Newport with class
  6. Embrace change and expect change
  7. Enjoy the opportunity of being part of this team
  8. Do not leave practice or meets early without notifying a coach
  9. Consistent with State guidelines derogatory language at any time is not tolerated and the use of electronic devices is not allowed in competition areas
  10. Comply with all Team, League, District and State guidelines
  11. If you fail to follow the rules we will have a meeting with you, your event coach, head coach, parent or guardian and AD as necessary. 

Practice Structure:

Practices will be Mon-Fri from 4 pm to 6pm and (optional) Saturdays from 9am to 11am. A full team and coaching staff meeting will be on the track near the high jump area at 4:PM Monday through Friday.  The team will be divided by class and gender for attendance then reassemble for team accouncements.  The entire team will then complete a full team warm-up.  After the full team warm-up athletes with diveide into event specifict groups for the daily workout.  .
