Season Record.....8 Wins, 11 Losses, 3 Ties

Howell Holiday Cup Tournament 11/19 & 11/20 = FINALISTS

November 20, 2011

A little chilly on Saturday morning with frost on the grass for our first game at 8AM, but it warmed up a bit for the later morning games.

Game 1 - Goals: Lacey, Arthi ..........Assists: Yaya, Arthi.....Coach Paul's "player of the game" was Arthi

Game 2 - Coach Paul's "player of the game" was Emily

Game 3 - Goals: Stephanie, Arthi.....Assists: Emily, Tracy.....Coach Paul's "player of the game" was Lacey

Game 4 - Goals: Marissa, Arthi......Assist: Marissa.....Coach Paul's "player of the game" was Marissa

Neptune won all four of their games and only had 3 goals scored against them in the 4 games that they played. The REBELS scored 2 of those goals in one game! Neptune also had some very solid GUEST players that were giving them a bit of a boost in talent.

4 teams ended the tournament with late ties, which resulted in our taking a last minute second place and getting the FINALIST title and trophy.

Per coach Paul, "he saw flashes of great soccer in the final game of the tournament". The girls really stepped it up against tough competition, because they were more challenged.

JAGS - Away Vs. NLSA Skye = Loss 0-4

November 16, 2011
Wednesday evening night game under the the lights in Lawrenceville at Notre Dame HS.
Raining all game long. Beautiful new turf field. Took us a long time to get this game played. NLSA has had as rough a season as us and lost all 4 games in their tournament this past weekend.

Seemed that we dominated for a good majority of the game, but just couldn't get the shots off or put the ball in the net. NLSA seemed to have only 4 opportunities and capitalized on all of them.

Lacey went down with an ankle injury early in the game and had to sit out.

JAGS = TWO Games Vs FC Xplosion = TIE 2-2, Vs Morris STA = Loss 0-3

November 6, 2011
Nice ride up to Ramapo College. Nice turf stadium, but muddy grass field on the side.
Double header. Xplosion played the night before and both the Rebels and Morris had back to backs today.
We missed Arthi and Bridget.

Game 1 Vs. Xplosion : TIE 2-2
It was a tight battle on the big turf field. Lots of running and room to pass. Coach Paul almost got a red card for stepping on the field.
Goals: Marisa and Emily
Assists: Yaya and Lacey
Coach Paul's Player of the Game = Emily

Game 2 Vs. Morris STA Fury White: LOSS 0-3
Our girls were tired from the first game, which likely had an impact, but Morris seemed a bit more aggressive to the ball than us.

Our final JAGS game is against NLSA, who tied Xplosion last night.

JAGS - Away Vs. Hibernian Heat = Loss 1-2

October 23, 2011
Darn, we just can't seem to break our JAGS league curse! We even tried our new long sleeve black jerseys for the first time and even that didn't help.

The Heat jumped out with a quick goal early in the game, then popped a nice shot in from the left side (#2). A penalty right outside the box gave Emily the opportunity to drive one home and get us one back before the half.

The Heat was aggressive and beating us to the ball for the entire first half. We came back in the second half and were much more aggressive, which resulted in a 0-0 second half battle. Had we played that way in the first half, the game would have been ours.

Per coach Paul, the Rebels must get more AGGRESSIVE, especially in the box and near the 18. We had several opportunites to score in the second half, including at least 6 corner kicks. We dominated and simply couldn't put the ball in the net.

Sam went down hard and bumped her head. Get well soon!

Goal: Emily

Per coach Paul, Janiah had her best game ever! Winning every ball, great hustle and great headers!

JAGS - Home Vs Watchung Hills (higher flight) = WIN 1-0

October 16, 2011
The Rebels played very well against a Watchung Hills team that is a flight higher than us in JAGS. This was a JAGS league "crossover" game. We had several opportunities that we didn't capitalize on as well. Great shutout for the Rebel defense and Dakota!

Gummy Bear "Player of the Game" = Madeline

Goal: "own goal" off of Lacey's shot

State Cup Round 3 Vs Monmouth Coast Splash = Loss 1-4

October 15, 2011
A long drive down to the Manasquan/Sea Girt area.
We missed Coach Paul, Janiah and Bridget. Thanks to Coach Joe Migacz for taking the helm today! Great coaching!

The Rebels battled hard against a determined opponent in the first half. The Splash went up quickly to 1-0 early in the first half, but the Rebels battled back to even things up 1-1 by the halftime whistle. The momentum was on our side heading into the back half of the game.

Monmouth Coast didn't make many mistakes and definitely capitalized on ours. They also were first to most balls and were in solid physical condition with lots of hustle. Their skill level was similar, but they kept the constant pressure on.

Goal: Lacey
Assist: Stephanie

A great run for our first state cup tournament, getting to the 3rd round!!

JAGS - Home Vs Chatham Cougars = Loss 1-3

September 25, 2011
Chatham finished their last season with only one loss and 21 goals over 10 games and has been playing together for a long time, only losing one player since u9.
Goals: Madeline
Assists: Ariyona

State Cup Round 2 Vs Hopewell Valley = WIN 2-1

September 24, 2011
From coach Paul, "it was ugly but effective"

Good thing we switched to our complex, because Hopewell's fields ended up being closed.

We missed Summer and Bridget.

We had our opportunities to rack up a few more goals, but just couldn't finish.

Gummy Bear Player of the game = Tracy for extraordinary defensive efforts and the save of a likely goal that was heading over the line.

Goals: Arthi, Marisa
Assists: Ariyana, Lacey

JAGS - Home Vs Ocean Wildcats = Loss 1-5

September 18, 2011
Well, that was ugly and not the welcome to JAGS that we were hoping for, but a beautiful day for a soccer game.

The State Cup game yesterday must have drained us for today.

Ocean is a very experienced team that's been playing together for a long time and just moved up to JAGS, because they had no competition in their old MOSA league. They were athletic, hustled well and beat us to most balls. They'll likely be the team to beat in our flight this season.  Let's hope that was our one bad game this season!

Bridget went down with a wrist injury. Sam was out with a toe injury. Yaya's hammy was tight.

Goal: Summer
Assist: Arthi

State Cup Round 1 Vs Haddonfield Lightning = WIN 2-2 (PK's)

September 17, 2011
Wow, What a game!...and our first Knight home game at the complex.

Haddonfield was up two flights higher than us in JAGS last season, so the odds were against us.

We went down 0-1 at the half. The girls battled back and scored two to take the lead. Unfortunately, the Lightning found a way to come back and tie it up.

After both teams went through 10 PK kickers, the Rebels had 3 and the Lightning had 2!

PK's scored by Lacey, Marisa and Lizzy. Great job Dakota!

Goals: Lacey, Marisa
Assists: Rachel

South Brunswick Tournament - 9/10 & 9/11 = FINALISTS

Game 1 -  vs W. Windsor/Plainsboro Fire = WIN 1-0
Early 8am game. We dominated the entire game, but had a hard time finishing, with our goal coming in the last 2.5 minutes of the game. Great shutout by our defense and Keeper!
Goal: Bridget
Assist: Ariyonna

Game 2 - vs West Morris Heath (PFC) = TIE 1-1
Tough battle, with PFC going up 1-0 on us. The Rebels battled back to tie it up. Heading into Sunday in first place, but need a tie or win in the morning to get to the finals!
Goal: Lacey
Assist: Ariyonna

Game 3 - vs South Brunswick Tonadoes = WIN 2-1
Solid game against a tough team. Emily shot one down low for our first score, then it was Lacey with a pass up to Stephanie for our second.
Goals: Emily, Steph
Assists: Lacey

Game 4  (FINAL) - vs West Morris Heath (PFC) = LOSS 0-1
We needed a tie or win to take home our first championship, but it just didn't happen. Similar to the first game against PFC, the Rebels couldn't find a way to penetrate their defense and sweeper formation. We threw everything we had at them, but the opportunity just didn't present itself and they somehow found their way through for the tournament winning strike.

Overall, a great second tournament for the new Rebels, with 2 wins, 1 tie and a loss in the finals. The girls are starting to get to know each other. Great defensive play by our Keeper and Defensive backs as well!

Thanks again to Maureen for the $200 donation and for getting us on the nice turf fields!

East Brunswick Labor Day Tournament - 9/3 & 9/4

September 3, 2011

Saturday
:
Riva Road was closed due to water. We missed Coach Paul.
First Rebel goal ever by Arthi, Second by Lacey.
VERY impressive first two Rebel games ever. A tie against a very seasoned and experience East Brunswick team (#32 in NJ) was awesome and a 2-0 loss to Wall Riptide (#23 in NJ) was very respectable, especially since these are our first games ever!!
Lots of injuries to nurse for Sunday's games. Emily with a couple balls to the face, Sam with a sprained toe, Rachel with a pulled groin, Bridget with knee and back hurts and Stephanie with a bum knee as well.

Sunday:
We missed Rachel.
The 0-2 loss to the Morris United Speedsters was not as the score would lead you to believe. The two goals that Morris scored were basically the only two shots that were on goal and the Rebels dominated the entire game. A handball? in the box call against us and a handball in the box that was not called in our favor were critical factors in the outcome. The Morris coach said "your gals outplayed us for the entire game". Net, we had several oppotunities that we just somehow didn't capitalize on. The 3-2 victory over Hamilton was well earned for the Rebels first win ever. Goals by Arthi, Marissa and Bridget.

Overall, a great way to start off the season with our new team. We started by holding very tough against two seasoned teams and outplayed both teams on day two.
