JAGS Tournament - 6/16 & 6/17
Amazing soccer weather.
Thanks to Zaya and Dominique for guest playing!
Great battles against some teams that are in much higher level JAGS flights than us. Proves that we can hang with the big gals!!
Game 1 vs Morris Fury White - We were up on them 1-0, with only 2 minutes left and they somehow found a way to put in a corner kick to tie it up. Last season we lost 0-3 to this team and they totally dominated against us, so a great improvement!
Game 2 vs Madison - We were up 1-0 at the half, then they came back and got us with 2 goals late in the back half of the game.
Game 3 vs AC Premier - We were up 2-0, then they came back and got us with 3 goals.
Goals: Arthi, Summer, Arthi, Dominique

Jersey Shore Champions Cup Tournament
June 9, 2012
Two wins and one loss. We beat who we should have.
We missed Tracy on Saturday.
Thanks to Zaya and Dominique for guest playing.
Beautiful soccer weather.
Birthday celebration for Dakota on Saturday.
Game one was against Mari's old Oldbridge crew! Good thing we won that one!!
Hunterdon United Hurricanes play up two flight higher than us in JAGS, so nothing unexpected there.
Something must have happened to the Hunterdon team for Sunday. They lost 0-3 to Old Bridge and then 0-2 against Morris in the Semi-finals. So, after scoring 9 goals on Saturday, with 5 against us, they failed to score a single goal on Sunday.
Pretty disappointing when a team with the same record as you, but that you defeated, advances to the semi-finals instead of you. Seems like a flawed formula, but it is what it is.
The bottom line is that we made too many mistakes against Hunterdon on Saturday that cost us our chance at advancing. Every goal counts in these tournaments!

Game 8 - JAGS - At SDFC = WIN 1-0
June 2, 2012
Well, it was ugly, but still our 5th JAGS league win of the season. The field was ugly too and they sure do grow their girls big up in the Roseland NJ area.
Good thing we caught them off guard and still sleeping in the first minute of the game or we would have been in trouble.
Their #6 was a solid threat and their Keeper could punt 3/4 of the field.
Happy Birthday Yaya! Nice cupcakes!
We missed Rachel!
Goal: Summer
Assist: Arthi
Game 7 - JAGS - Home VS PFC Heath = WIN 4-1
May 20, 2012
Beautiful day at the Complex.
Well, we played PFC Heath in our very first tournament in South Brunswick, just last season. At that time we tied them, then lost to them in the finals. Clearly, the Rebels have come a long way in a short period of time. Today was a dominating performance, with most of the game under the control of the Rebels, with PFC rarely penetrating our defense.

EPIC Tournament CHAMPIONS!!

Day One = 2 Wins
Beautiful day for soccer. Not a bad drive, just over the Delaware. Two solid shutout games for the Rebels and 8 Goals.
Lea guest playing.
Goals: Marisa 2, Arthi 4, Olivia, Rachel
Assists: Emily 5, Lacey, Madeline
Day Two = 2 Wins
Another great day for soccer.
Goals: Marisa 4, Arthi 2, Emily, Bridget, Dakota, Summer
Assists: Lea, Madeline
Game 1 = Not sure what Coach Paul said to the girls after a poor first half showing, with only one goal, but they came out and scored 7 in the second half. Get well soon Bridget!!
Final Vs. Lionville = We beat them 3-0 the first time around, but they came into the finals wanting to take home the championship. We were clearly more skilled, but they seemed to be more determined and aggressive to the ball. The Rebels kept their heads and stuck to their game and eventually started to wear down our opponent. With only about 2.5 minutes left in our second overtime period, Madeline placed a nice direct kick into the box, where Summer popped in the tournament winner.
CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT FIRST TOURNAMENT WIN!!

Game 6 - JAGS - At Wayne = Loss 1-2
May 5, 2012
Beautiful turf field at Wayne HS, with a long walk from the parking lot.
We missed Steph and Rachel and Bridget was down with a pulled hammy. Emily got there just in time and without any speeding tickets.
Wayne's first goal came from a PK that was awarded from a handball in the box.
Tracy popped in our first goal, which tied up the score before the half.
Wayne scored their second in the second half, off of a corner kick.
With only a couple of minutes left, Madeline took a direct penalty shot from the left side, just outside of the 18 that sailed right into the back of the net. Unfortunately, the side ref called one of our players offsides, even though she wasn't involved in the play in any way.
A couple of refs have stated that there is NO offsides on a shot that is on goal and not touched by any players. According to FIFA rules, the only way an offsides could be called in this situation, is if the offside player was somehow a distraction to the Keeper.
The JAGS league does not allow any protests, but I'm checking anyhow!
Goal: Tracy
Game 5 - JAGS - At Watchung Hills Lightning = WIN 3-0
April 29, 2012
Well, they tried to rattle us by sending us to the wrong field, but that clearly didn't work out the way they planned! Nice turf field, but wish we had 3 refs instead of only the one.
Watchung was a flight higher than us last season in JAGS, but we defeated them 1-0 in a scrimmage a few months ago.
We also beat them in the indoor league finals for the championship.
The Rebels totally dominated today and were able to string together some nice passes and keep good possession of the ball, as well as FINISH when they needed to.
We've outscored out opponents 10-3 in the past 4 league games!! Nice!
Great shutout by the Defense and Dakota today as well!!
Coming off of a season with ZERO wins, I'd call this some great progress and improvement. If we can keep this going, we'll likely head up to the next flight for next season.
Goals: Arthi, Bridget, Yaya
Assists: Yaya, Summer
Coach Paul's Player of the Game = Dakota
Game 4 - JAGS - Home VS NLSA Skye = TIE 1-1
April 28, 2012
Beautiful day at our home field.
We missed Dakota, Tracy and Olivia.
Last season we lost 0-4 to NLSA in the rain, on a rainy Wednesday night down in Princeton, so a 1-1 tie is a nice victory for us!
We seemed to dominate early on in the first half, but neither team could find the net. Overall, it was a pretty even game. Every one of their girls was athletic and they were aggressive to the ball. The Rebels struck first, with Marisa passing the ball over to Yaya, from the left side, where she knocked in a nice blast of a shot. The Rebels tried to hold on to their lead, but #14 was able to penetrate down our right side and get off a perfect shot that easily sailed into the back of the net.
Goal: Yaya
Assist: Marisa

Game 3 - JAGS - At Lehigh Valley PA = WIN 3-1
April 22, 2012
Rain....Rain....go away, we have lots of soccer to play!!!
Rainy and wet and a very long drive to Lehigh Valley PA. The parents had the only good seats (in their cars).
We missed Steph, Lizzy and Olivia.
Total domination by the Rebels in the first half, to go up 3-0.
Per Coach Paul, the second half was one of our worst ever. Lehigh dominated and we failed to keep possession of the ball. Need to find feet and keep from just kicking the ball blindly.
Goals: Rachel, Arthi, Lacey
Assists: Tracy and Janiah
Coach Paul's Player of the Game = Rachel ("Rachel was the difference maker in the first half and game")
NJ Cup - Round 2 vs Mt. Lauren = LOSS 2-0
April 15, 2012
A long drive down to Mt. Laurel down the Pike and a turn just past the sheep.
Not a bad 0-2 loss against a team that is ranked #10 in the state and up 3 flights higher than us in the Premier JAGS league division.
The Flash dominated from a possession perspective, but we had our opportunities that we could have capitalized on that could have kept us in the race.
They were more aggressive to the ball and more athletic than us, but they had a hard time finishing.
Thanks to Grace for guest playing with us.
Game 2 - JAGS - Home VS FC Jersey Xplosion = WIN 3-1
April 14, 2012
Yippi, our first JAGS league win as a team!!!!
A game of total domination by the Rebels against a team that we tied 1-1 last season, so I'd call that "improvement"!!
We seemed to control most of the first half, but they nailed a nice shot off of a questionable penalty called right outside of our box.
The Rebels came on super strong in the second half, to totally dominate and post a 3-0 back half shutout.
Coach Paul tested out 3-5-2, with 3 Backs, 2 Holding Mid-fielders, 2 Outside Mid-fielders, 1 Attacking Mid and 2 Strikers that seemed to be effective in having us win the ball more.
Assists = Rachel, Lizzy, Rachel, Lizzy
Goals = Arthi, Bridget, Arthi
Awesome defense by Dakota, Madeline, Janiah, Tracy, Rachel and Lacey, not allowing a goal from the field.
Coach Paul's "player of the game" = Arthi
Pizza and Brownie's after the game.
NJ Cup - Round 1 vs Cranford Lightning = WIN 4-2
April 1, 2012
April Fool's Day
A solid game for the Rebels, after a shaky JAGS league start against US Parma.
Cranford plays up a couple of flights higher than us in JAGS, with the Staten Island team that we scrimmaged a couple of weeks ago that beat us 3-1, so this is a solid accomplishment.
Goals = Arthi, Summer, Marisa, Arthi
Assists = Lacey, Tracy, Emily, Marisa
Coach Paul's Player of the Game = Yaya
Nice game by Dakota in Goal.
Solid defense and an all-around good effort.
Next game will be away at either Milburn or Mt. Laurel.
Game 1 - JAGS - Home VS US Parma Leonesse = LOSS 0-2
March 25, 2012
Cloudy and chilly home opener for the Rebels.
An ugly game all the way around.
Parma scored off of a corner kick in the first half, where they passed to "the short player". The ball bounced around in front of our goal, but was cleared out into a group of unmarked opposing players and tapped in for the score.
We seemed to dominate the game with some nice passing, but just didn't take enough shots. A few times we were making extra passes in front of the net, where we should have been shooting. The ball rarely penetrated our defense, but the couple of times it did, they somehow came away with goals.
Parma scored in the second half off of a ball from their defender that seemed to bounce around in front of our goal forever.
We had several opportunities that we just couldn't capitalize on and it seemed we were clearly more skilled than our opponents.
Let's put this one behind us and prepare for our NJ Cup game next weekend.
