ROYALS IN 5TH CITY FINAL IN 7 YEARS

The Ancaster Royals knocked off the Saltfleet Storm by 21 points last night to advance to the Hamilton City Finals for the first time since 2002. Ancaster, led by Broder McNeil and Mike Soluk will take on the Glendale Bears at 8 PM at Saltfleet on Friday. Both teams were undeafeated in the 2004-2005 regular season. The Royals won 3 consecutive City Championship's after Ancaster High School amalgamated with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board in before the 1998-1999 season. Ancaster also reached the Finals in 2002 but were defeated by Westdale in a close game. Since 1999 The Royals have also gone on to appear in SOSSA 6 times (winning 3), and OFSAA 3 times (winning a bronze medal in 2000.

The Ancaster Royals learned yesterday that they have been selected as Hamilton second bid for the 2004 SOSSA championship to be held in Hamilton next week. Stay Tuned to the ticker for more information.

WYNNE RESTS STARTERS, IMPROVE TO 10-1

Ancaster Royal's Head Coach Bob Wynne gave the starters some much need rest last night as they prepare for the 2004 post-season next week. The Royal's defeated the Hamilton District Christian Knights 61-44 last night to improve to 10-1 on the regular season and will play Westmount in the regular season finale on Wednesday at Westmount at 3:15 PM. Regular starting center, Paul Podstalka was suspended for the game because of an incident in the teams' last regular season game, so in stepped back-up center Chris Leendertse. The 6'4 Leendertse scored a career-high 24 points and Kevin Patterson added 11 points and 5 assists in limited time. Trevor Smith, Broder McNeil, Patterson, and Stewart Wynne rested much of the second half with the game already in hand.

ANCASTER WINS BATTLE OF THE JUNGLE

The Ancaster Royals defeated the McNabb Lions 83-31 last night to push there regular season record to 5-0. The Royals opened the game on a 20-2 run and never looked back. Center Chris Leendertse scored 14 points and reserve guard Graham Wynne added 12 points and 6 blocks. Coach Bobby Wynne rested his key players for the second half. The Royals Leading scorer, Trevor Smith, did not play this game due to an ankle injury suffered in a tournament over the weekend. Smith's status is unknown for the game against Westdale on Wednesday.

ROYALS BOUNCED FROM SOS III TOURNEY

December 6, 2003
The Ancaster Royals had it tough when they faced the #2 ranked team in the country in Toronto's Central Commerce Friday night at SOSI III in Hamilton, ON. The Royals did not play well and were beaten by 42 points. Earlier Action saw the Royals beat Ottawa's Louis Riel 62-61 with 17 points from Trevor Smith and 13 from Paul Podstalka. In the opening round Thursday night Ancaster was defeated 69-40 by Toronot's Newtonbrook. Trevor Smith led the Royals with 12 points.

ROYALS DEFEAT MARY'S, REACH SEMIS OF COURT HEINBACH IN WATERLOO

December 1, 2003
The Ancaster Royals beat the St. Mary's Crusaders (Hamilton, ON) 56-50 to advance to the Semi-Finals of the Court Heinbuch Tournament at Waterloo University. The Royals were defeated in the semi-finals by the Tournament eventual champion, Peterborough Collegiate Institute 58-47 Saturday night. Trevor Smith led the team with 14 points. In first round action on Friday night, Sean Hickey pumped in 19 points to lead Ancaster to a 65-61 victory over Waterloo. Forward Trevor Smith(6'4) was named a 2nd Team All-Star for the tournament.
