LIONS IN PLAY-OFFS

The York Lions are in the OUA East Play-Offs once again after an up and down 2003-2004 season. The Lions, who started the season just 2-6, finished 13-9 winning their last 4 games. York's season turned around after beating the then tied for #1 ranked team in UBC in a tournament in Victoria, BC. That win kicked off a 7 game regular season winning streak that included wins over #8 ranked team Guelph and #9 Brock. The Lions also beat the OUA West Conference leading Mcmaster Marauders earlier in the campaign. The team finished off the regular season with a pair of victories over Laurentian last weekend. On Friday night, Tom MacChesney scored a season high 35 points and Ryan French added 32 in a 109-95 double overtime thriller. Two days later the rematch took place with York pulling out a 76-58 win. MacChesney led the way with 21 points and 6 assists. French added 19 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists, and Jordan Foebel chipped in with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. The win was bittersweet for a few Lions, as it marked their final regular season homegame at York. MacChesney, French and Chaka Harris were honoured before the game, and given standing ovations at the conclusion of play. The Lions will play host to Toronto on Saturday at 8PM at the Tait McKenzie Center.

MCLEOD AND FOEBEL DOMINATE YORK/WINDSOR GAME

The red hot York Lions, coming off they're first win of the new year at Western Friday night, beat the Windsor 82-67 to improve to 2-0 in 2004. Scott McLeod scored a career-high 26 points and added 6 rebounds and 5 assists in a career-high 40 minutes. Jordan Foebel led the Lions with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Dan Eves chipped in 12 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 assists. The team's Leading scorer, Tom MacChesney was held to just 11 points, but did add 5 rebounds and 7 assists.

YORK DUMPS WESTERN

January 12, 2004
The York Lions dumped the Western Mustangs 78-67 on Saturday In CIS action. Former Royal's Tom MacChesney, Scott McLeod, and Jordan Foebel led the way, as the lions jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. MacChesney scored a game-high 20 points and added 8 rebounds, while the 6'10 Foebel dominated inside with 15 points, and 8 rebounds. Scott McLeod played a season-high 32 minutes and added 12 points and 8 rebounds. Lions' forward Dan Eves also tallied 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners.

MACCHESNEY ON WAY TO ALL-CANADIAN SEASON

Fifth year York UNiversity Lions guard Tom MacChesney is on his way to an All-Canadian Season in CIS. The 6'2 former Royal is averaging 18.9 pts, 5.2 reb, 3.0ast, 1.2stl, and 0.9 blk. Unfortunately the Lions team Captain has not been able to share the success with his team as York has stumbled out of the gates and currently sit at a 2-6 record in the OUA Eastern Conference. Look forward to this turning around, with MacChesney being a key factor.

MAC CAPTURES RAPTOR CUP

October 28, 2003
The McMaster Marauders defeated the York Lions 64-52 to win the Annual Raptor Cup Invitational at the Air Canada Center on Sunday afternoon. Ben Kats scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and former royal Eli Carlone netted 8 points for the marauders who overcame a 22 point, 11 rebound performance from 6'10 center Jordan Foebel. Foebel shot a stunning 10-12 from the foul line. Adam Guiney who scored 13 points and added 9 rebounds was named to the tournament all-star team and Katz was awareded the MVP. Guiney scored career-high 36 in the semi final game against Humber College. Lions Guard Tom MacChesney was named to the all-star team.

YORK WELCOMES A NEW ERA

The York University Yeomen are no longer, as the team has decided to change it name to the York Lions. A new logo has also taken the place of the old one and can be seen on the left.
