The Spin Move (2:58 mins.)
YouTube Link: http://youtu.be/LpgT6W8plPY
This video explains important aspects of the spin move
-
Use the pound dribble when initiating the spin, so the ball can be held longer
-
While holding the ball on the spin, go as far as you can
-
Try to take the biggest step that you can, to get as far as you can from the defender
The spin move is a great move to use as a counter when using other moves. If you try to crossover and the defense cuts you off, you can counter with the spin move.
The 360 Spin Move (4:53 mins.)

YouTube Link: https://youtu.be/EyYbMJzrKYs
When executing the hesitation dribble attack, use the following steps:
- Speed dribble hard at the defender
- Hesitate, taking a 1-2 stutter step and HOLD (the 1-2 should be short choppy steps)
- At the same time that you hesitate or HOLD
- let your dribble come up high and straighten up your body
- throw a head fake and look at the basket with your eyes (like you are going to take a jump shot)
- Push hard, off your back foot and explode past the defender (attack the defenders hip...hip to hip, sealing her off with your body)
- Once by the defender, you can go hard to the hoop or you can stop up and take a jump shot
Note: This move relies on a change of speed, unlike the spin move, the through the legs move and the crossover, that rely on a change of direction.
