Mustang Division (9 - 10 years old)

The Mustang Division Coordinator is Casandra Champagne-Christian. Any questions can be directed to caschampagne@gmail.com. 

Players must turn 9 on or before August 31, 2020 in order to play in this division.

There are Skills Assessments for this Division, April 5th and April 19th, 2019 at Lathrop High School. 

Playing Season: Practices and games start Mid-May depending on weather and the condition of the playing fields, and run through mid July.  Two games and two practices are scheduled per week, with the possibility of a Friday practice.

Game Duration and start times:  Games are 6 innings in duration starting promptly at 6:00pm and 8:00pm, and are to last no longer than 1 hour - 50 minutes. No inning shall start after 7:40pm (early game) or 9:40pm (late game).

Umpires will officiate all games.

Players will pitch and catch at games.

Fundamentals taught:  All Pinto fundamentals, bunting, leading off and stealing of bases, sliding, how to routinely hit a pitched ball, improved fielding position, routinely fielding ground balls, how to catch pop flys, IBL rules specific to the Mustang division, basic cut-offs. 

Pitching fundamentals taught: how to pitch from the stretch, 2 finger grip, pick off to first base, basic defense positions, delivery mechanics, and pitching rules.

Required equipment:  Plastic baseball cleats (No metal cleats), baseball glove, cup recommended in this age bracket (required for all catchers).

Bat size:  In conjunction with USA Baseball and its other participating national member organizations, PONY Baseball has adopted the new USA Baseball bat standard (USABat). Effective January 1, 2018, with the exception of -3 (BBCOR certified), all other 2 1/4" and 2 5/8" barrel bats with a minus factor of (-5, -7, -9, etc.), must be USABat certified with the USABat licensing stamp on the bat in order to be used for league and tournament play. All 2 1/4" and 2 5/8" minus factor bats -5, -7, -9, etc. used in 2017 will be illegal to use in 2018.
