July 9, 2019

The NHL/NHLPA First Shift program is designed to ensure a positive experience for new-to-hockey families. We want families to experience the game at its best.  This program is open to all Canadian children between the ages of 6 and 10 years old who have never previously been registered in minor hockey.   On-ice sessions with fun drills are always on the same day of the week, same time and same arena.   Hockey Canada on-ice curriculum with drills focused on fun range hockey experiences to stimulate a desire for continued participation in hockey.

We believe in all hockey has to offer kids, their families and our communities. We designed the NHL/NHLPA First Shift to facilitate entry into hockey by offering a program that is  ACCESSIBLE, AFFORDABLE, SAFE, and most importantly, FUN!. We cannot wait to help your kids fall in love with hockey.

AAA Tryouts Information

September 6, 2019

AAA Tryout Information

All players interested in being considered for AAA in the Eastern Zone should have indicated their interest when they registered for the DJHL tryouts.  The AAA coaches will evaluate players who have indicated an interest in playing AAA during the final phase of the AA/A DJHL tryouts for both the peewee and bantam divisions.  The coaches will then invite back a minimum of 30 players for the final phase of the AAA selection process.

This process eliminates the need for a full tryout process immediately following an intensive DJHL tryout process.  It saves on the cost of 3 hours of ice time for the AAA selection process and eliminates duplication in the tryout process.

The four AAA coaches will schedule ice time for phase two of the AAA selection process.  Those times will be published to the AAA website and will also be emailed out with the invitations to phase two for those selected to continue with the AAA team selection.

There will be an information session regarding the AAA format for the upcoming season during the week of September 23-27th.  By that time the dates and locations of all tournaments should be finalized.  The exact time and location of that meeting will be announced in the coming days.  Stay tuned.

20190930 - Important Program Change for Pee Wee D Selections

We would like to advise you that there has been a program change with respect to the selection of the PeeWee D Team. Originally it was decided to have this evaluation done with the House League but after reviewing the process it would be more appropriate to have this evaluation completed with the B/C process as well.  We understand that this is very short notice but it’s best for the players to be evaluated with this process.  We are trying to offer the best programming and bring the D’s into the evaluation would make the tryout process run smoother and also trying to evaluate a player that doesn't want to tryout for the All Star teams gives equality to them as well.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the late addition to this process.  We are reaching out to the players who have only signed up for house league so that they are aware of this program change.  If you would like to discuss this further please contact the office and your concerns will be addressed.  This process will still be the same number of games and practices as the B/C process.  The cost of registration is $75.00.

As stated we are sorry for the late addition but it will be a better process for the players.  The online registration is opened for the D Tryouts also, the office will be opened at 5:00 on Wednesday to accommodate.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation,

20191001 - Bantam D Tryouts

If you are interested in tryout for Bantam D there will be a tryout process for this division as well.  You can register online under the Bantam D tab if you haven't already signed up for tryouts.  If you are registered for B/C already you don't have to register again.  Sorry for the short notice but there was a review of the tryouts process and it was felt that the players wanting to tryout for the B/C/D teams need to be evaluated separately to distinguish between a player who is not interested in the B/C DJHL  or the D Team which will still be playing House league and D.  The cost of tryouts is $75.00.  You will receive two practices and three games. Please note this will take place the same time as the B/C tryouts.

The office will be opened tomorrow night to help accommodate this new registration.  Also as stated you can register online.  If you have any questions please contact the office@cbrminorhockey.com.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. We are trying to make this process a fair and easy one.

You will see Bantam B/C/D Tryouts.

20191015 - All-Star Development Team Notes By Law #2

October 15, 2019

RE: All-Star and Developmental Team Notes By-Law # 2

The CBRMHA would like to address the unfortunate circumstances that surround comments made recently on social media. We are very disheartened to find ourselves in this situation.

As an Executive, we feel it is important that we note key policies which impact this situation. By-law #2 under ALL-Star Developmental Team Notes states:

Any player selected for All-Star, who voluntarily quits shall not be eligible to play All Star Hockey in the next season. Additionally, they are not eligible to try out for the Developmental All-Star Teams”.

This by law is one that many associations exhibit to avoid situations where players are given every opportunity to participate in programs, to not deny another child an opportunity, and to deter any one individual from attempting to circumvent selection processes.  Our selection process is meant to be fair to all those who choose to participate in our Minor Hockey programs. There are occasions where people disagree with that process, the decisions made, and/or outcomes but CBRMHA works hard to offer every child a game of hockey.  Unfortunately, there are times when players withdraw from our program and situations arise such as in today’s circumstance.

20200210 - Walking Track Usage - During Game Times

February 10, 2020

Good Day Parents/Players/Siblings,

The Town of Conception Bay South are asking for your cooperation in ensuring that the people who are utilizing the walking track during the games are able to use them while the games are on going.  Please keep in mind that the games are not private functions and the walking track is still accessible to the public.  It has come to our attention that the walkers are not able to access the walking track with ease.

Another note, parents please ensure that your players are not playing hockey in the hallways or beating a ball off the walls.  During a game on Saturday a player was shooting a ball of the walls.  You can also notice that there are ball marks on the garage door there which is not acceptable.  We have a beautiful facility and we would like to keep it looking this way.  If you see a player doing this please stop them right away.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation,

2018/19 Mouth Guard Rule

August 27, 2018

We wish inform, and remind all Minor Hockey Associations that during the 2018 Annual General Meeting, Hockey NL amended the wearing of an intra-oral mouth guard in minor hockey to a recommendation rather than a mandatory requirement effective for the 2018-2019 season.

The decision to remove the mandatory requirement of a mouth guard for minor hockey as rendered by the Executive Committee of Hockey NL, was made after carefully examining all of the information that was presented to them.  We persist to ensure safety is paramount in our game and expect that many of our members will continue wearing this piece of equipment as they have been accustom to this.

This change in policy will remain consistent with the majority of the branches that govern hockey in Canada, and will alleviate the policing difficulties experienced by coaches and game officials. There will be no longer any infractions issued by game officials.

Please ensure your members are aware of this change prior to the start of the season.

Sincerely,

Craig Tulk

Executive Director, Hockey NL

Working in partnership with Hockey NL, the Breakaway Foundation works to support the development of youth hockey, healthy lifestyles, and providing an opportunity for all kids to participate in hockey, regardless of financial situations.

To meet the demands of our mandate, we rely on the generosity of individuals, hockey parents, minor hockey associations, corporate support and events such as this.  Without the assistance of community minded individuals, our organizations ability to operate would be limited.

This past 2017/2018 season Breakaway Foundation was able to provide assistance to 108 children across Newfoundland and Labrador by financially forwarding over $34,000 to Minor Hockey Associations for their minor hockey registration fees.

If you would like to donate an item to our auction, purchase tickets to the Gala or offer other support, please contact me at breakawayfoundation@hockeynl.ca or message me on my cell at 709-685-2868.

DATE:            April 10, 2018

___________________________________________________________________________________

On behalf of Hockey Newfoundland & Labrador’s Minor Council I wish to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for making this year’s hockey season such a success.

To the coaches, volunteers, officials, executives and parents who dedicated your time to ensure that the minor hockey programs we provide are first class and that our children play this great game in a friendly and safe environment, your commitment is applauded.

This year’s Minor Hockey Slogan Was “The Game is Better, When We are in it Together”. Thank you for believing in our sport and the programs we offer. When we all work together for a common goal the results become outstanding.  Our provincial tournaments were the culmination of a long season that had many successes. You should all be proud of your accomplishments and look forward to the upcoming challenges that you will face as you progress through your minor hockey career.

To the players, have a great summer break you all deserve it. The hockey season is a long one and it can certainly take its toll on you, your parents and all of our volunteers.

To our graduating midget hockey players, congratulations! You have had a great minor hockey career and you will certainly be missed. Good luck with your future endeavours both in hockey and life.

In closing I wish to thank you all for your support over the past season. Hockey is a great sport and I hope your minor hockey experience this year, was nothing less than that.  Have a great Summer and I look forward to seeing you all again next season.

Sincerely

Arnold Kelly

20180411 - Humboldt Broncos Ceremony

20180412 - Wreath Laying Ceremony and Banner presentation

April 12, 2018

We, the executive of CBR Minor Hockey, wish to invite you all to attend two very special events, as we join the rest of Canada in grieving the terrible loss we experienced as both a Hockey community and a Country this past week.

Tomorrow evening, Thursday April 12th at 7:30 pm, there will be a Ceremony at the Gushue Sports Complex on Smallwood Dr. This event is being held by all the Metro Area Minor Hockey Associations together as part of the light your rink action. Please bring a Light, Dress in Green or a Jersey and feel free to bring your stick, as we all take a moment to reflect on this tragic loss.

On Sunday April 15th at 1:00 pm, CBRMHA along with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 50 and the support of The Town of Conception Bay South will be holding a wreath laying Ceremony in memory of these 15 Fallen players. This will take place at the Monument of Honour in front of the Town Hall.

We encourage all our Players to please come and Join us. Wear a Jersey, and feel free to bring a stick. The intention is to leave a ring of sticks around the Monument as part of the Sticks Out movement.

A collection will be taken up as well for anyone who wishes to contribute. The funds will be forwarded to the Humboldt Broncos organization to aid the families.

We hope you can take part in these events.

Yours In Hockey

President CBRMHA

Hockey NL – 2017/18 Provincial Scoring Website

February 8, 2018

For the upcoming 2017-18 provincial tournaments Hockey Newfoundland & Labrador will do a pilot project using online score reporting. This will enable associations to post scores immediately after a game ends*.

It will also incorporate a standing section for each tournament so not only will the scores be available but the standings as well. We are hoping that this makes score reporting easier for the associations and also more readily available for players and parents.

We look forward to the provincial tournaments….. less than 9 weeks from now!!

20180117 - Important Message From Hockey NL Regarding Helmets, Mouth Guards & Neck Gurards

January 17, 2018

IMPORTANT MEMORANDUM

January 17, 2018

To:   All Minor Hockey Associations, Senior, Junior and High School Teams/Leagues

Cc:   Hockey NL Board of Directors, Female Committee, Officiating Committee.

Re:   Helmets, Mouth Guards and Neck Guards

In an attempt to ensure that all members are aware of important equipment requirements and the fact that we have new members each year coaching our players, we wish that you circulate this reminder.

Helmets in Pre-Game Warm Ups:

Hockey NL requires that all players properly wear their helmets and facial shields securely fastened during all pre-game warm-ups.  We are responsible for the safety of our members and we ask that you ensure that this safety requirement is being adhered to by all your players.  Any person violating this protective equipment requirement is to be reported to the President for possible sanction.

Helmets on Coaches:

Hockey NL requires that all coaches and on ice staff who are on the ice with players during practices must wear a CSA certified helmet with chin strap fastened.  We are responsible for the safety of our members and we ask that you ensure that this safety requirement is being adhered to by all your on-ice coaching staff.  Any person reported not wearing a CSA certified helmet on the ice is liable for suspension.

Intra Oral Mouth Guards

In September 2003 Hockey NL adopted mandatory intra oral mouth guards for all minor hockey players.  It has come to our attention that there are number of teams/associations that have players continuing to attempt to play without wearing mouth guards.  Even though we have placed a rule supplement for our officials to police this mandate, Hockey NL is urging that all associations and coaches also take some responsibility in ensuring all their players are wearing mouth guards including practices.

BNQ Throat Protectors

The wearing of a BNQ approved throat protector is compulsory for players registered in minor hockey.  We have reports that some players are not wearing their throat protectors in practice.  Again it is crucial that each team and coach take the initiative to ensure that all players are wearing their neck guards during games and practices.

We appreciate your support and attention on these issues, as they are important risk management issues and certainly potential liability issues if we are not vigilant in its enforcement.

Regards,

Craig Tulk

Executive Director

Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador
